Assignment #4 – Project

Topic: The Importance of Recruitment- A Presentation for HR Recruiters

The process of recruitment, selection, and retaining is an important topic in the field of Human Resources. Robert Henemen, quoted in Fields (2012), said “All of your employee relations issues and all your human resource initiatives depend upon your people. If you hire the right people you can be successful; poor hiring decisions will cause you to fail.”

History

For years, your organization excelled in recruiting the best talent! In 2001, your organization was recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a top recruiting company. Unfortunately, however, your organization recently has been portrayed negatively in the news, which has significantly impacted your applicant pool.

Case

After running various statistical analyses, you quickly realize that your organization has experienced high turnover rates and low employee satisfaction scores. Your organization, which was once a recruitment leader, is now experiencing major recruitment problems.

In 2008, your organization rapidly grew due to a large consumer demand for your product. Your organization has been a leading superstore for decades. The company values the concept of providing an economic-friendly and option-oriented shopping experience. Your customers are loyal, allowing your organization to be among the top grossing stores in the United States. However, recently, employee dissatisfaction has been surfacing, which has caused strife in the Human Resources Department. Your employees are demanding higher salaries, fewer hours, and more vacation time.

As Director of Human Resources, you have proposed to upper-level management a change in employee treatment, including raising hourly wages and offering bonuses and promotions for advanced employees. Unfortunately, management did not meet at a crossroads and employees across the nation are leaving the organization, which continues to bring negative media attention. Due to this public outcry, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to recruit hardworking and responsible employees, leaving your stores understaffed.

Explanation of Assignment

As the Director of Human Resources, you need to improve your organization’s image and recruitment efforts. Therefore, for this assignment, you must create a recruitment plan that capitalizes on your organization’s strengths, while reducing organizational weaknesses. Additionally, your recruitment plan should seek to enhance the employment experience for current and new employees.

Note: In order to complete this assignment it is important that you use National Paralegal College’s Library resources, such as LIRN and Google Scholar, to locate scholarly research articles, which support your statements/ claims.

Explicit and Implicit Attitudes and Measurement. (600 words)

Attitude measures can be categorized into two broad categories: explicit and implicit. In explicit or direct measures, researchers directly ask individuals to report their attitudes. The most common method of measuring explicit attitudes is the self-report questionnaire. In some cases, however, individuals may not report their true attitudes in an effort to make a favorable impression or, as covered in this week’s Discussion, because they simply lack awareness of their underlying attitudes toward particular objects, issues, things, or people.

In implicit or indirect measures, researchers do not directly ask individuals to report their attitudes. Implicit measures, such as priming techniques and implicit association tests, have become a popular method for assessing attitudes because they are less likely to be influenced by social desirability.

For this Assignment, review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on whether or not individuals have attitudes and beliefs outside of conscious awareness (i.e., implicit attitudes). As applied to attitude measurement, consider reliability and validity of implicit measures.

In the essay,

  • Explain your position on whether or not individuals have attitudes and beliefs of which they are unaware. (Position: Yes)
  • Explain whether or not you think that implicit measures are capable of accurately measuring attitudes and beliefs.

    APA style.
Support your position with references to the Learning Resources and other scholarly literature.

The healthcare field recognizes nurses as authoritative figures regardless of the particular title. The responsibility of being a registered nurse is a leadership capacity in and of itself (Cox, 2016). Although there is a need for both the relationship between management and leadership continues to initiate some debate (Marquis & Huston, 2017).

Within the hierarchy of an organization, a nurse manager holds an assigned position. Over specific processes, she is responsible for tasks, and particular duties are designated to be carried out. On the other hand, a leader might or might not have identified authority within the organization. Focused on upholding standards using interpersonal skills and effective communication the leader uses her ability to influence others (The Sentinel Watch, 2014).

In my history as a nurse, I worked with a woman who showed leadership behaviors but not management behaviors. She was always available when needed, trustworthy, wanted to mentor, flexible, and excellent interpersonal skills. She believes and promotes the vision of the organization and developing change. She was not task oriented, did not want to deal with patient care planning, schedules, or address daily issues on the unit with staff. Her primary goal was graduating from college with her Masters in Administration to move up the ladder in the organization and made everyone aware of her goals, and she only had one nurse manager to oversee in the small rural hospital (Cox, 2016).

Next, there was a manager I had the opportunity to work with at hospice and was an asset to her office. She led by example, believed in sharing information, and insured patient safety while she supervised and participated with staff members. She kept an open door policy to all staff for support, guidance, and advice at all times. After six years of being a manager, she was offered a promotion and leadership to director of nursing of all six of the outpatient hospice units, and she took the position. The transition from manager to administration proved to be a challenging journey for her. Her first obstacle was moving to the corporate office over an hour from her house. The second was she had 30 employees at her office, and now she was overseeing 400 employees in the company. Her 8 to 10 hour days went to 12 to 16 hour days with being on administrative call 24/7. The state had also come into two offices to do an audit that she was responsible for and making sure all policies were up-to-date, nurse managers had everything they needed, monitoring the budget and answering to the CEO. She did not make herself very visible and was very difficult to find most days, and you were lucky to get a reply from her within the week even if it was urgent (Cox, 2016). She finally got overwhelmed enough and put back in for her a transfer to be a manager at her old office due to the current manager resigning and got her old position back. She enjoyed the experience but was very glad to be back at her old office and so was her staff.
