One Paragraph

In a paragraph of seven to ten sentences, answer the following questions in relation to this passage from John F. Kennedy’s 1963 Civil Rights Address: What word does Kennedy seek to redefine in this passage? Why is it necessary for this word to be redefined to his audience? What long-term cultural change does Kennedy expect to make through the redefining of this word?

“One hundred years of delay have passed since President Lincoln freed the slaves, yet their heirs, their grandsons, are not fully free. They are not yet freed from the bonds of injustice. They are not yet freed from social and economic oppression. And this Nation, for all its hopes and all its boasts, will not be fully free until all its citizens are free.

We preach freedom around the world, and we mean it, and we cherish our freedom here at home, but are we to say to the world, and much more importantly, to each other that this is the land of the free except for the Negroes; that we have no second-class citizens except Negroes; that we have no class or caste system, no ghettoes, no master race except with respect to Negroes?”

Assignment 2: LASA 1: Organisms in Your Biome – Psychology homework help

  • Describe Your Own Environment
Consider the natural environment or biome found in the geographic area where you currently live. For example, if you live in the Midwest, the natural biome for this area is the grassland. If you live in Alaska you are likely to live in either the tundra or the boreal forest. Describe the main features of the biome found in your geographic area. Include features such as the environment (moisture, temperature) and any topographic features that would influence the climate (mountains, large bodies of water, etc.).
  • Identify Ten Organisms
Make a list identifying at least ten organisms—at least five plants and five animals—that live in your biome, and describe how these organisms interact with one another. For example, is the relationship competitive or symbiotic?
  • Describe Each Organism and its Environmental Needs
In the speaker notes section in your presentation, briefly describe these ten organisms and the type of conditions—that is, moisture, warm temperatures, or a type of plant—they need in order to survive. Be sure to include the interactions between these organisms and the resources they need to survive. You may wish to use various tools available in Microsoft PowerPoint to visually depict these relationships.
  • Hypothesis of a New Environment
Consider a situation where the temperature of the climate was to increase by an average of ten degrees Celsius. Address the following:
    • How would these organisms survive if the temperature warmed up this much?
    • Would they stay or move to a more suitable environment?
    • Would a new species move in?
    • How would migratory species be impacted?
    • What would happen to your biome?

Now, consider if your biome changes with the temperature shift. Address the following:

    • What types of plants and animals do you think would live there?
    • What will happen to the rarer species? Will they cease to exist?
    • Identify five plants and five animals that you feel would inhabit this warmer area.
    • Describe this new ecosystem and the new interactions that will most likely exist.
  • Additional Topics to Include
    • How would environmental management practices change in your area?
    • Would this drastic shift in temperature impact culture and society in your area?
    • Would you still choose to live in this area after a drastic shift in temperature? Give reasons to support your answer.

Use pictures from the Internet to represent your chosen species, and give credit to these Web sites. Support your statements with 3–5 credible sources. Use the last slide of your presentation as a reference slide.

Develop a 10–15-slide presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.ppt.

Ethics Standard Presentation

Research these 4 S&P 500 firms: Bank of America, Best Buy, Dish Network, and Dollar General.

Create a 10- to 15-slide visual presentation with speaker notes in which you summarize your conclusions

Discuss the following questions:

  • What kind(s) of information does each firm include in their ethical statements or documentation?
  • Is there a designated team or governing structure that oversees ethics for each of the firms?
  • What messages are the firms attempting to send to their employees?
  • What messages are the firms attempting to send to their external customers?
  • Why do you think that being perceived as “ethical” may or may not be important for a business?
  • What are some other potential strategies that the firms may want to consider, and why?

2 Assignments- Answer questions in full. ORIGINAL work only

ASSIGNMENT 1:

Consider the material presented in chapter 14 concerning “real options.” Find an article online that provides a good example where a company has selected a project due in part because of the value of timing options. Discuss why this particular project may have been rejected by the firm if the timing options were not available. Similarly, feel free to provide an article that shows where a project was rejected by a firm but might have been accepted if proper timing options were available.

ASSIGNMENT 2:

Copper Pipe Inc. is trying to estimate its optimal capital structure. Right now, Copper Pipe has a capital structure that consists of 20 percent debt and 80 percent equity, based on market values. (Its D/S ratio is 0.25.) The risk-free rate is 6 percent and the market risk premium, rM – rRF, is 5 percent. Currently the company’s cost of equity, which is based on the CAPM, is 12 percent and its tax rate is 40 percent. What would be Copper Pipe Inc’s estimated cost of equity if it were to change its capital structure to 50 percent debt and 50 percent equity?

American Cinema chapter 4

1.Answer these questions based on: American Cinema- Chapter 4: The Studio System (folder: book)

What did you think of the The Bad and the Beautiful (Minnelli, 1952) accuracy in depicting Hollywood and the studio system? Who was the most compelling character for you and why? Have you seen any other films with these actors? With this director? If you want to do some more research about what other films they were in or what awards this film won a great resource is the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com). /300–400 words/

2. Respond to the 2 posts attached in which you supposed to ask one question on the end of answer ( Discussion Board –> 2 posts (each answer –> +/- 200 words))
( posts in attachment. )

Answer all questions below

Question 1

Business speakers don’t always have the luxury of complete confidence in the material they have to present. For instance, sales forecasts for new products are notoriously difficult to make because they depend on so many factors in the marketplace. If you were presenting a forecast that was the best available answer but not one that you had much confidence in, should you still follow the guidelines presented in your readings for appearing confident in front of your audience? Explain your answer. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.

Question 2:

Advice for giving effective online presentations is given in Chapter 16 of your text. Read the list and determine what would be the hardest to adhere to or control. What would be the easiest? Why is this so? Provide a practical real world example. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings.

ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE IN APA FORMAT and cite the reading attached!

Unit 2 DB Management

Welcome to the CapsimCore™ Simulation class Discussion Board. Here, the class will collaborate about best practices related to the simulation. This is an ungraded forum that will remain open as a point of reference throughout the term. It is important to keep the discussion centered on the simulation, and not the topic of business strategy and policy. Please be professional. This is not a forum to complain. Please keep the conversation positive. Negativity will not be tolerated. You may ask questions, provide tips, or seek assistance from one another throughout the duration of the course. Everyone should participate and/or review in this forums regularly in the beginning of the course. You may contact your instructor directly with questions or concerns that are not answered in the forum.

You may access CapsimCore training resources in Google Drive.

Capsim® provides telephone support directly to participants Monday through Friday. The toll-free number for U.S. and Canadian callers is 877-477-8787; all others 1-312-477-7200. Questions about simulation rules, results, market conditions, tactical trade-offs and technical issues are fielded by courteous, knowledgeable, professional experts.

THIS IS WHAT MY PROFESSOR WROTE:

Hi everyone,

Education is supposed to be intriguing and fun! When did academics become separate from what students should be able to do outside of the University learning environment? Why did academics make professionals become so focused on being compliant with strict academic policies that are not used in business and industry? Why would a student want and need Professors to tell them exactly what to do and think, rather than thinking through a challenge on their own? The game based environment and theme of this course puts authentic learning and creative thinking back into the course curriculum design, connecting student work with meaningful, reality-based work. In this course, we hope to instill passion and personalization into the learning process for students to realize and unleash their strategic leadership abilities.

If you think of this course like a game, and you realize that this course has different components and requirements than most other courses you have taken before or are taking during this term, you will realize the value of this experiential learning journey and will hopefully enjoy the complexities and challenges ahead.

This is a multi-dimensional course experience consisting of the following components:

  • Extensive Research
  • Critical Thinking
  • Simulation (practical application and experiential immersion)
  • Communications (formal and informal)
    • Writing
    • Verbal
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Deliverable Instructions and Rubrics per Course Outcome

You will need to show mastery for each Course Outcome (If you don’t know what the Course Outcomes are, visit the Syllabus asap) by engaging in each of these components of the course by using the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors you have developed both academically and professionally up until now. It is essential that you understand how to navigate or apply yourself in each component area of the course. For instance, if you have trouble understanding how to read assignment instructions in relation to the assignment rubrics, it is essential that you seek help from your instructor. If you have difficulties with writing, it is essential that you seek help from the writing center. If you are struggling with the simulation, you must contact the Capsim Core helpline for assistance. If you struggle with conducting research, contact your instructor and/or the librarians for assistance. Collaborating with your fellow learners on the ungraded team discussion board and the graded discussion boards can help you with critical thinking. Of course, you may also collaborate your instructor for help with critical thinking and reasoning. If you struggle with desktop publishing skills, practice makes perfect! You can seek some assistance from the writing center with regard to the formatting of documents, PowerPoints, etc. However, it will be up to you to apply creativity skills and put in the effort.

You start the course by understanding what strategy actually is by completely immersing yourself as an actor within the simulation. You are not playing above or outside of the game… you are literally the game, and the simulation is your professional environment. It’s important to imagine the different players in your organization, so you can create important fictitious actors like managers and leaders that span your organization from the corporate level to the functional levels of management. You should consider creating a fairly expansive organizational structure. As you imagine the organizational structure, it’s important to imagine the other organizational design components along the way. Components of your strategy include what is referred to as the enterprise level of strategy.

The enterprise level of strategy is an important part of your organizational identity. The elements of organizational identity (through the lens of an enterprise strategy) include:

  • strategy model
    • vision (story)
    • mission
    • philosophy
      • ideological position
    • purpose
    • values
    • policy
    • business model
      • form of business
      • governance structure
      • shareholders / partnership agreements
  • organizational structure
  • organizational culture
  • management strategy
    • corporate level
      • systems
      • technology
      • finance
      • administration
        • legal /compliance
        • communications
        • social media
      • marketing
      • operations
    • business level
    • functional level
  • organizational persona
    • branding
    • themes

It’s important to think of this gaming experience from the enterprise level of strategy perspective based on the components above. You should be conducting deep research on each of these topics, and using the anatomy of this enterprise strategy model to help you think multi-dimensionally about your Capsim Core simulation company.

This gaming experience is a form of Experiential Learning, which requires active learning and participation within a business environment. Your ability to reflect on your experiences, and use your experiences to develop the course deliverables, will apply “practice to theory.”

Connecting your research with your experiences is a critical part of your success in this course gaming experience. Your ability to behave, perform, execute, manage, and lead as a strategist will be judged by your instructor. Be as professional as possible.

Don’t forget… this is a game, and you are the main actor within the game, and your goal is to build the components of your organization (that you lead) using various aspects of strategic thinking, strategic design (modeling), and strategic decision-making. As the sole actor in this simulated learning experience, you will need to use your imagination and creativity to further construct your Capsim Core simulation company.

You will be challenged.

You will be overwhelmed.

But you must not feel mislead. This purpose of this course gaming experience is to help you become a sound business strategist. As the leader of your Capsim Core simulation company, you will be in a position of power to make many strategic decisions and to be a strategic leader. You must play the role. When executing the deliverables in this course, you will be writing from your position of power as the leader of your organization. This kind of experience will put a lot of pressure on you to make vital decisions, but we know you’re ready to succeed. You’ve come this far in your degree program… you have learned how to talk the talk, now let’s see how well you walk the walk.

Success is a Journey. Success is very cumulative by design. This means that everything you do now, and every step you take will contribute towards your personal success in the future. An exciting journey does lie ahead and the effort you put forth now to learn Management Strategy and policy will pay off later, and oftentimes forever!

Have fun gamers! Don’t hesitate to contact your instructor with any questions or concerns…
