Gap Analysis

Organizations set goals and objectives for each department and every employee within it. Whether the goals are financial or performance based, each entity within an organization is expected to perform to a level that aligns with the overarching expectations and standards set by the organization. If a department or employee falls short when these expectations are clearly identified, it is essential to identify the gap between desired outcomes and actual outcomes. To identify and address this, organizations can perform a gap analysis. Although a gap analysis is not the only tool available to an organization or manager when examining performance issues, it is commonly used to identify gaps in performance and realign processes or resources to obtain the desired outcomes or expectations to fill the gap.

To prepare for this Assignment, review the P4 Performance Management performance gap analysis from this week’s resources in order to familiarize yourself with the components of a traditional gap analysis.

  • Using the Walden Library, media, or other sources, identify and select a contemporary news story or article that describes an organization with a performance issue. You may use an organization with which you are personally familiar.
  • Using this week’s resources, along with your research, perform a gap analysis in order to identify the performance deficiencies within the organization described in the article you selected.

Complete this Assignment by developing a 3- to 5-page paper, following the guidelines below:

  • Prepare a gap analysis that includes a description of your findings and recommendations along with the following components/sections. (Note: According to APA guidelines, you should include a heading for each section in your paper.)
    • Define the current state of the organization.
    • Define the desired state of the organization.
    • Identify the existing performance deficiencies within the organization.
    • Evaluate the existing resources and organizational capabilities.
    • Identify the alternatives that are available to close/eliminate the gap.
    • Analyze the performance management strategies available to the organization in working toward its desired state.
    • Select a solution, provide a brief rationale, and outline a plan of action for implementation, including a postimplementation metric.
  • Be specific and provide examples with references to the literature.
  • All work must be original and in APA format.

public administration

Select a public policy you are most interested in. Then, select one media outlet that has promulgated or attempted to block the debate on the public policy issue you chose. International students should consider how the news media in their home country has promulgated or attempted to block debate on a selected national public policy issue.

By Day 4

Post a brief description of how your chosen media outlet has promulgated or attempted to block the debate on your selected public policy. International students should post how the influence of your local news media on national public policy compares to the impact of American media on the public policy process in the United States.

Then, explain whether you believe the selected media outlet’s promulgation or blocking of your chosen public policy item was effective or not and why.

Creating a letter of Intent. 250-300 words Journal entry

In Milestones One and Two, you conducted research on your social problem. The next step is to think about how to implement a solution.

In your final submission for Final Project Part II in Module Seven, you will write a letter of inquiry/intent to various funders in order to secure funding for your solution (a letter of inquiry and a letter of intent have the same purpose).

In order to prepare for Final Project Part II, investigate what a letter of inquiry to a funding source looks like and what information it should contain. Read Letters of Inquiry for an explanation and examples.

After exploring the website and reviewing exemplary letters of inquiry, think about your own project and what kind of organization you would want to help solve your social problem. Use this 250–500-word journal entry to respond to the following:

  1. To what organization or funder would you like to write? Explain how this organization may help solve your specific social problem.
  2. What “methodology” or solution are you proposing?
  3. How will social theory help guide the implementation of this solution? How can that theory be applied to your specific social problem?

**I have already chosen the social problem**********

“Value chain is a visual description of the steps required to turn raw materials into finished products and/or services. The value chain also describes key functions of the firm linked to each stage and functions that span the productive activities of the firm” (Dyer, 49). For my Primary Core Activity, I chose after sales service. It’s one thing to get the customer in the door, but to keep them coming back by providing outstanding service they can count on. Support activity I thought of procurement as an important aspect of any business. Being able to negotiate deals procuring materials that maximize profits for shareholder. I find the analysis that a Value Chain can provide to virtually any business priceless in seeking strengths and weaknesses that can be identified and used to their full potential. Apple is an amazing company that keeps the customer coming back and the amount of resources it takes to build the electronic devices is a large portion of their production.

Value chain tactics can come in all shapes and sizes, but I found this one to be the best. “Some firms achieve a cost advantage by deploying a different business model, meaning that they either eliminate activities or steps in the value chain, or they deliver their product or service using entirely different activities than competitors” (Dyer, 82). Changing it up and doing something different than the competitors will make you stand out. I believe with the position that Apple has made with Apple Stores and being their own sole distributor has really set themselves apart. Its a specialty and unique business model they have for the telecommunication industry.

Pros and Cons of Diagnosing Children

Discussion—Pros and Cons of Diagnosing Children

One of the great controversies in the field of psychology relates to how we define normal and abnormal behavior. There is general agreement with the official definitions of abnormal behavior; that is, abnormal behavior is severe or maladaptive enough to need diagnosis and psychological or psychiatric treatment. These official definitions are contained in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). There have been many revisions of this manual over the years. Currently, we are using the fifth edition, or the DSM-5 (APA, 2013).

Children and adolescents who display certain behaviors that cause them to have significant difficulty in their everyday functioning are likely to be diagnosed with one of the disorders in the DSM. Some of those diagnoses are temporary, whereas others are life-long.

Review the following case:

Anna, a four-year-old Mexican-American girl, lives with her mother and father. Anna’s parents immigrated to the United States years before her birth. Her mother speaks only Spanish with her, while her father speaks only English. Anna’s parents are migrant workers who must move regularly. Anna and her parents have moved over ten times since her birth. They hope to provide Anna with more stability, now that she is approaching school age. Therefore, they are seeking other forms of employment.

Anna recently completed kindergarten orientation. The school psychologist recommended that her parents have her evaluated further, as her speech development is significantly delayed. She speaks very little; her vocabulary was screened at the kindergarten orientation and was found to be at least two years behind typical speech development. During the kindergarten screening, Anna was hyperactive, unable to sit still, distracted, and unable to complete the tasks. She was unable to complete them partially due to their difficulty level, but also due to her inability to focus sufficiently.

After a thorough evaluation at the local mental health center, Anna was diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She began participating in a behavioral modification program with a bilingual therapist, who speaks both English and Spanish. She will be evaluated in a few weeks by the psychiatrist, who will decide whether to prescribe stimulant medication for the ADHD.

Based on your analysis of the case, respond to the following:

  • Analyze the pros and cons of diagnosing Anna with a mental health disorder. Identify at least three benefits and at least three costs Anna and her family may experience as a result of her diagnosis. When deciding which pros and cons to identify, consider benefits and costs related to at least fourof the following categories:
    • Stigma
    • Prescription of psychiatric medication to children
    • Selection of a psychotherapy approach
    • Multicultural factors
    • Labeling or mislabeling of children
    • Early intervention

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources, including in-text citations and full references. Incorporate information from at least two academic sources to support your statements or ideas. Academic sources could include your textbook, required readings for this week, or academic journal articles found in the AU online library.

By Saturday, July 5, 2014, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, July 9, 2014, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses. Provide a statement of clarification, a point of view with rationale, challenge a point of discussion, or draw a relationship between one or more points of the discussion of at least two other students. Consider commenting on the following:

  • Consider how you may have responded if Anna had a different cultural background.
  • Address one of the categories you did not choose from the list.
  • Explain whether you agree with the benefits and costs identified by your peers, and why.
  • Request more information from peers who may have listed less than three benefits or three costs.
  • Suggest interesting resources, Web sites, or articles you located for this assignment, and provide references for academic research articles that you have found in your research. Summarize the researched information for your peers.

Quality Risk Management Plan

For your final Portfolio Project, you will write a paper detailing a risk management plan based on the following case study scenario. Your goal is to identify areas of risk and healthcare/medical error, and to safeguard future patients from having their safety compromised in a manner similar to what occurred in this case study. Your risk management plan must include:

  • A root-cause analysis
  • At least three recommendation(s) for improvement
  • Two recommendations for how this situation could be avoided
  • Identification of all roles in your analysis
  • Quality, risk, and performance improvement diagrams and charts to support your analysis (e.g., a fishbone or other visual form of root-cause analysis, Pareto chart, tables, etc.)
  • Commentary that relates the case broadly to what you have learned throughout the course and describes the roles played by quality management and regulation to prevent unfortunate occurrences such as the case described

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be 10-12 pages in length, NOT INCLUDING THE COVER OR REFERENCE PAGES.
  • Be formatted according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements.
  • Provide support for your statements with in-text citations from a minimum of eight (8) scholarly references—four (4) of these references must be from outside sources and four (4) may be from course readings, lectures, and textbooks. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these references.
  • Utilize headings to organize the content in your work.

The case is as follows:

You are the Chief Risk Management Officer for a large metropolitan not-for-profit teaching hospital. You have been assigned this case by the Chief Executive Officer due to the potentially sensitive nature of the situation and the CEO’s personal interest in disadvantaged and ethnic minority population groups. Your goal is to do a thorough risk analysis and create a risk-management plan as part of the overall quality management program for this facility based on the following case scenario.

A female patient, age 25 years, presents in the emergency room with pain in the right side of her lower abdomen. Her last name is Jonesky. She has been ill and vomiting for two days. The patient is triaged and asked to take a seat in the emergency room waiting area until she can be seen. Additionally, the patient speaks only Russian, and her husband, who is the only family member with her, speaks limited English, with Russian being his primary language.

Several hours have passed and the patient is still sitting in the emergency room, in extreme pain. The husband approaches the emergency room desk to try to communicate that his wife is worsening and in extreme pain. After several minutes of discourse, the patient is taken back into an examination room to be seen.

She is diagnosed with appendicitis and requires removal of her appendix. She is sent to a holding area outside of the operating room where she will wait to be taken into surgery. Upon her arrival, a nurse asks her name and due to the fact that the patient only speaks Russian, her name, “Jonesky” sounds very much like “Jones” to the nurse. Then anesthesiologist arrives and interviews the patient. Simultaneously, another emergency patient is brought into the holding area of the operating room. Her name is Samantha Jones. Samantha has fallen down icy steps and has broken her left ankle, which now needs to be repaired. This is a very busy night for the operating room. Additional staff members, who have already worked a full eight-hour shift, are called in to attend to this second case.

Both patients are interviewed and taken into ORs for their procedures. Since it is late, both surgeons do the required time-out procedure, but not as judiciously as they would have during the day. Staff members in attendance for both cases implicitly go along with their surgeon’s order and surgery following a time-out procedure that was not complete. As the first surgical procedure begins, the surgeon makes an incision into Mrs. Jonesky’s ankle and there is no sign of any broken bone. He realizes there is a problem. Additionally, in the second OR, the surgeon operating on Samantha Jones makes an incision and finds no sign of appendicitis. Both surgeons operated on wrong sites due to incorrect identification of the patient.

Starbucks Product Life Cycle versus Competitor

Competition

In comparison from Starbucks product/ services to Dunkin’ Donuts in a domestic and international market, address the competition for Starbucks in each region and how the new product or refresh provides a competitive advantage with Dunkin’ Donuts in both regions. (roughly 200 words)

Please provide 1 peer-reviewed reference with proper APA citation.

Understanding the various phases of a product or service lifecycle is critical when addressing a market. If your product is in decline and the competitor’s product is in growth, your strategy for the product or service will be different. This exercise will enable students to demonstrate an understanding of both their product/service life cycle stage and a competitor’s product. It is designed to help students explore product mix strategies in the various phases of a product or service life cycle. This tool is critical when addressing a market penetration, market saturation or product/service decline.
