Journal Article Analysis

Each student will select one of the key terms presented in the module and conduct a search

of Campbellsville University’s online Library resources to find 1 recent peer-reviewed

academic journal article (within the past 3 years) that closely relate to the concept. Your

submission must include the following information in the following format:

DEFINITION: a brief definition of the key term followed by the APA reference for the term; this

does not count in the word requirement.

SUMMARY: Summarize the article in your own words- this should be in the 150-200 word

range. Be sure to note the article’s author, note their credentials and why we should put any

weight behind his/her opinions, research or findings regarding the key term.

DISCUSSION: Using 300-350 words, write a brief discussion, in your own words of how the

article relates to the selected chapter Key Term. A discussion is not rehashing what was

already stated in the article, but the opportunity for you to add value by sharing your

experiences, thoughts and opinions. This is the most important part of the assignment.

REFERENCES: All references must be listed at the bottom of the submission–in APA format.

Be sure to use the headers in your submission to ensure that all aspects of the assignment are

completed as required.

Any form of plagiarism, including cutting and pasting, will result in zero points for the entire

assignment.

Pick one of the following terms for your research: Compliance, codes of ethics, ethics officers, formal controls, or ethics audit.

management control

This week’s discussion will focus on management control using the case study “Brief Integrative Case 3.1: Google in China: Protecting Property Rights” (p. 415) in International Management: Culture, Strategy, and Behavior.

Decision-making and controlling are two vital, and often interlinked, functions of international management. Strategic evaluation and control is the process of determining the effectiveness of a given strategy in achieving the organizational objectives and taking corrective actions whenever required. Control can be exercised through formulation of contingency strategies and a crisis management team.

Using the Decision-Making Process (stages 1-9) outlined in the textbook (Fig 11-1) and this module’s content, what are your thoughts on each step in the process using the Google in China case study as it relates to the strategic evaluation and control process definition above?

For example:

Stage 1: What is the problem perception in the case?

Stage 2: What is the problem identification in the case?

Repeat for stages 3-9.

What overall assumptions can you make using this decision-making process?

write 5 paragraph essay using in text citation with the information provided below

After reading this chapter, think about the expectations that are often placed on children of all ages regarding their emotions. We expect children to behave in such a way that keeps their emotional responses under control but many adults still struggle with this task.

The book states, “Caregivers must manage somehow to be serene, tolerant, and self-controlled if they are to accept and reflect feelings. They must be able to be empathetic. But, at the same time, they must not deny their own feelings…Competent caregivers also learn how to set aside their own feelings when appropriate in order to understand what a child is feeling. This is the empathetic relationship. It is important to help children recognize, accept and then cope with their own feelings.”

In light of the above information, answer the following: How do you express your anger? Do you do it in different ways? Do you find that you often do not express anger when you feel it, especially when you cannot act on it?

This article shares some ways a parent has learned to cope with her own emotional regulation: (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Review the principles covered in Chapter 1 and incorporate information from the principles shared there. Share your summary and visual aid/hand out.
Reminder- respond three times to other students throughout the week! Spread out your responses. Use in text citations, references, and upload to Turn It in!

The Role of Human Resources in Organizations

I have included some resources for your reference. All work must be original and in APA format. Please keep all paragraphs for 5 sentences.

You may choose one of the 3 companies to use for this assignment Amazon, McDonalds, or Nordstrom Inc. Whatever company you can find the most information is ok with me.

As a Human Resources professional, you may be faced with making tough decisions. This is true because much of your work is on behalf of the larger organization, unlike other departments whose work is primarily focused on their own functions. Therefore, you might receive much of the “heat” for the end-result of what you do on behalf of the organization. Conversely, you might not be recognized for the work that you do, since much of your work is behind the scenes.

For this Assignment, review the week’s Learning Resources and consider the larger role and work of the Human Resources Department/Division within organizations. Using the 10K Form available on U.S. SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION. (2016). EDGAR. Company Filings (https://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html), select an organization using you might research further for the Annual Human Resources Operating Plan drafted in Week 5 and finalized in Week 7.
Note: To find a particular company’s Form 10-K filings, use the Company Search for the SEC’s EDGAR database. On the returned listing of filings for the company, enter “10-K” in the Filing Type box near the top of the page to filter for only Forms 10-K that have been filed.

The organization must be located in this search engine and have a large Human Resources Department or HR Division. There should be adequate information from this site, coupled with the company’s websites, to identify their business vision and mission, objectives, and strategies. You are encouraged to select an organization other than the one in which you work to facilitate achieving an organizational view not impacted by your current position view limitations – this is critical.

Since many organizations do not make their strategic plans widely available, you may need to deduce the organization’s business objectives and strategies and by reviewing 10-k forms (an example of which is located in this week’s Learning Resources), websites, and/or transcripts of quarterly earnings calls with the media, or through your own organizational awareness and/or communications as an employee of this organization.

To complete this Assignment, respond to the following in a 2- to 3-page paper:

  • Describe your selected organization in 1–2 paragraphs
  • Explain the “visibility” of the Human Resources Department/Division’s role
  • Analyze how different departments of the organization are impacted by the Human Resources Department or Division’s responsibilities on behalf of the organization

Explain what you perceive as the Human Resources Department/Division’s added value to the success of the organization

response to discusion below

On September 8th, 1900, a category 4 hurricane slammed into the city of Galveston Texas without warning. The accompanying 135 mph winds and estimated 15 ft storm surge completely devastated the city and surrounds, and astonishingly; took the lives of 6-12 thousand people (Hurricane Katrina death toll: 1,833). (NOAA, n.d.)

The hurricane (hurricane nomenclature did not exist until 1953) had previously swept across Cuba and meteorologists there had tried to warn the U.S. of its ferocity and potential track across the Gulf of Mexico. (NOAA, n.d.) The U.S. disagreed, and instead proclaimed a track along the eastern seaboard much to their eventual chagrin. (Murnane, 2017)

The most rudimentary echelons of technology were not available in 1900, (first commercial radio broadcast was in 1920) and even if the correct path had been predicted, any preventative evacuation procedures would have little effect without the efficient mechanisms to disseminate mass warnings. (Murnane, 2017)

Even the recovery efforts were arduously-slow in response, so much so that it morbidly required mass funeral pyres to dispose of the decomposing bodies after weeks of uncoordinated recovery efforts. (Murnane, 2017)

Today, with agencies such NOAA, The National Hurricane Center, NASA, and the Air Force Hurricane Hunters combined with satellite and advanced forecast modelling, hurricanes, although predicted by climatologists to intensify in strength and frequency are tracked proficiently from their cyclonic birth to eventual dissipation.

The languid, disjointed recovery efforts involved with the Galveston catastrophe and the inefficient management of subsequent natural disasters did not prompt the formation of a national emergency agency until the conception of FEMA in 1979. 117 years after the calamitous Galveston hurricane, another category 4 hurricane (Harvey) made an unwelcome return visit to the Galveston coastline, but unlike 1900, FEMA had ample forecasted warnings, and although it claimed over 100 lives, FEMA’s astute evacuation, mitigation, and recovery strategy prevented a repeat of the scale of human desolation experienced in New Orleans in 2005. Contents of Annual Reports

Discuss the following scenario: Staff members from the marketing department of your firm are doing a splendid job selling products to customers. Many of the customers are so pleased that they are also buying shares in the company’s stock, which means that they receive a copy of the firm’s annual report. Unfortunately, questions sometimes arise that the marketing staff members are woefully inadequate at answering. Technical questions about the firm’s financial condition and performance are referred to the chief financial officer, but the director of marketing has asked you to write a memo in which you explain the key elements in an annual report so that marketing representatives are better prepared to respond to questions of a more general nature.

For your initial post, write a clear, concise memo (no more than 250 words) that describes the contents of an annual report so marketing personnel can understand the basic requirements of an annual report. Reference this week’s readings and lecture to help organize and explain your thoughts. In addition, answer the following questions:

  • Do you think all marketing staff members should be equipped to speak with the public about the firm’s financial matters?
  • What are some of the benefits of improving employee financial literacy?

Dynamics of Cybersecurity

Part 1:

Describe 3 distinguishable models of how the government could address cybersecurity policy. Models range from central control, putting someone “in charge” of cybersecurity; to a more federated, consensual approach; or a hybrid of the two approaches.

Discuss the degree of regulation in cybersecurity that may be applied in each model and government’s role in assuring regulatory compliance in a range of models. The paper should also address the potential success of each regulatory compliance regime and consider the utility of economic incentives to assure compliance.

Part 2:

Write an opinion piece for a Washington, D.C. newspaper expressing your opinion on the effectiveness of the legislative, judicial, and administrative branches of government in addressing cybersecurity issues and propose how this might be improved. Write a critical opinion piece that calls for a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to cybersecurity and why one is needed.

Part 3:

Develop an outline for a persuasive PowerPoint presentation to a group of global company chief executive officers (CEOs) about the dynamics of the cybersecurity environments and threats that may require they develop a closer partnership with the U.S. government in the areas of cybersecurity practices, research and development, and global Internet governance that would be consistent with U.S. international policy.
