INFORMATION LITERACY and ORAL COMMUNICATION LEARNING OUTCOMES

Essays should be 4 to 6 pages long and include proper citations. In the essays describe a learning activity that you have done (provide the example with your assignment) and how you successfully showed proficiency in each section (bullet) of the competency. For example, you have an activity from an english course and want to use it for the Critical Thinking Competency. So, you need to explain how parts or the whole of the activity include the aspects of the competency:

ORAL COMMUNICATION LEARNING OUTCOMES
Oral communication involves the ability to comprehend and to speak in Standard English with precision and clarity. At the
completion of the General Education curriculum, students should be able to:

1. Create and communicate a compelling central message

2. Use a discernable organizational pattern that makes the content of the presentation cohesive

3. Select language choices that are appropriate for the audience

4. Demonstrate delivery techniques appropriate for extemporaneous speaking

5. Incorporate a variety of types of relevant, credible supporting materials

INFORMATION LITERACY
Information literacy involves the ability to identify, retrieve, evaluate, organize, cite properly and use a wide range of
resources including print, graphic and electronic for independent learning and practical problem solving. At the completion of
the General Education curriculum, students should be able to:

1. Determine the nature and extent of the information needed

2. Select the most appropriate investigative methods or information retrieval systems for accessing the needed
information

3. Evaluate information and its sources critically

4. Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose

5. Access and use information ethically and legally

You can either use screen shots or quote parts of the activity to explain how this evidence you are providing meets the assignment requirements & competency. So- if you cited sources at the end then you can state that for #7 you documented your research according to APA/MLA etc…then provide a screen shot of the page. Try your best to provide evidence for 100% of the competency components.

Problem Solving – Week 9

When faced with a problem, what do you do to solve it? This assignment asks you to apply a six-step to problem solving process to a specific problem scenario. You will write a paper that presents a synthesis of your ideas about solving the problem using this systematic approach. As Voltaire said, “No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking.”

Scenario 1: You have worked at your company for eleven (11) years. You have returned to college to earn a Bachelor’s degree in order to increase your chances for a promotion. You are nearly finished with your degree, when a supervisor’s position in a competing company becomes available in another state. The start date is in two (2) weeks, during your final exam period for your courses. The position offers a $15,000 per year salary increase, a car allowance, and relocation expenses. Your former supervisor works for the company and is recommending you for the position based on your outstanding job performance; if you want the job, it’s yours. All of the other supervisors at this level in the company have Master’s degrees, so you know that you would be expected to earn your Bachelor’s degree and continue on to a Master’s degree. Your present company offers tuition reimbursement, but the new company does not.

Review the six-step problem solving process outlined in the webtext, based on the article “The Problem Solving Process” located at http://www.gdrc.org/decision/problem-solve.html:

  • Step One: Define the problem
  • Step Two: Analyze the problem
  • Step Three: Generate options
  • Step Four: Evaluate options
  • Step Five: Make your decision
  • Step Six: Implement and reflect

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:
1. Define the problem in the scenario that you have chosen.
2. Analyze the problem in the scenario.
3. Generate options for solving the problem in the scenario.
4. Evaluate the options for solving the problem.
5. Decide on the best option for solving the problem.
6. Explain how you will implement the decision made and reflect on whether this option was the most effective.

The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:

  • Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
  • Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
  • Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA Style format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Recognize the hindrances to the decision-making process in order to apply problem-solving skills to a variety of situations.
  • Create written work utilizing the concepts of critical thinking.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in critical thinking skills and informal logic.

Sales Test #1

We’re going to give you two different scenarios, please respond to each of the following customers:

1. This lead has seen a demo of Jazva and they are interested.

The Company would require a minimum monthly fee of $1200 for this customer. You have quoted them $2000.

You know that this potential customer is quite busy and rarely answers the phone, however he’s very responsive via email.

Hi there,

We are very interested in the product, we think it could potentially be a fit for our business. But you know, I didn’t like that way you created orders in the system, and I’m not sure that I’m going to use all of your functionality.
So I was wondering how much wiggle room do we have? My margins are already very low and this is a new added cost. What’s the best we can do here? Realistically coming into this, my budget was $1000/mo. Now, I see the value in the software, I’m just not sure I can do double my original budget.

Work with me, I’ll be a great, loyal customer for a long time. If we can agree, I’m ready to sign up this week.

2. This customer reached out to you instead of their account manager. They are threatening to cancel. What are your actions?

Hello,

Unfortunately this email isn’t the best of messages.

I’m very concerned with the amount of errors and bugs recently in this new version of the software. Its causing me to lose a lot of time in going back and fixing things, or calling your team to help me out. Its gotten overwhelming over the past couple of days and if this continues for another week, I’m gone. We WILL cancel our agreement.

I wanted to let you know very transparently where we stand. Please make the appropriate parties aware.

Help with Discussion

Week 4: Privacy Policies for Hotel Guests

Must post first.

The manager for Reservations Services and the company’s Chief Privacy Officer have asked the Management Interns to look into a privacy problem that was recently uncovered in the Reservations Services Call Center. Your deliverable for this discussion will be a 3 to 5 paragraph briefing paper in which you summarize the privacy issues (using the information provided below) and then provide 3 to 5 suggestions for appropriate and relevant updates to the current “guest relations” privacy policy (using a competitor’s policy as a starting point).

Write your 3 to 5 paragraph position paper after reviewing the background information (below) and one or more of the following policies:

1. https://www.lhw.com/Privacy-Policy

2. https://www.tajhotels.com/en-in/about-taj-group/legal/privacy-policy/

3. http://www.fourseasons.com/privacy/

Background

Special requests from guests are entered into the reservation database for use by front desk, concierge, housekeeping, and maintenance personnel. Food service personnel may also need to access this information in order to address special dietary needs. Guests may enter the information themselves using a web-based form or a call center operator may enter it on a guest’s behalf.

The Chief Privacy Officer recently became aware of a disturbing practice in Reservations Services related to the “special requests” information. Apparently, there has been an on-going contest among the call center operators for “the most outrageous guest requests.” A few operators have gone so far as to pull up guest reservation entries in the database for bookings made online via the company’s website.” This contest is a shocking violation of guests’ privacy and could seriously harm the company’s reputation if the practice were to continue.

An investigation into the situation revealed that (a) the call center operators were not aware of the guest relations privacy policy and (b) the current guest relations privacy policyhas weak protections in place for information stored in the reservations system & bookings database.

Please remember to cite your sources (APA format preferred).

Create a spreadsheet and VBA algorithm that trades according to the decision rules

The case involves accepting or rejecting a series of
institutional orders. Your decision rule for accepting or rejecting these orders is as follows:

 You will accept an institutional sell order if, following the acceptance of the order, you can instantly
place a market sell order to reverse 65% of the share position at a volume-weighted average price
that is greater than the price of the institutional sell order

 You will accept an institutional buy order if, following the acceptance of the order, you can instantly
place a market buy order to reverse 65% of the share position at a volume-weighted average price
that is less than the price of the institutional buy order.

After placing the large market order, the remaining position should be reversed algorithmically using
smaller market orders of 500 shares per second. If your share position is close to zero but not divisible
by 500, then your algorithm should place a market order such that you revert to a zero share position.
As an example, suppose you had to decide whether to accept an institutional buy order for 80,000
shares at a price of $50 per share. While contemplating this decision, you examine the ask side of the
limit order book and find that you can buy 52,000 shares at a volume-weighted average price of $49 per
share. Because the VWAP of buying 52,000 shares is less than the price at which the institution sells you
the shares, you would accept the institutional buy order for 80,000 shares and then quickly submit a
market order to buy 52,000 shares to reverse 65% of your negative share position. The remaining
position of negative 28,000 shares would then be reversed algorithmically by purchasing 500 shares per
second.

Create a spreadsheet and VBA algorithm that trades according to the decision rules above. Information
in your spreadsheet should be used to facilitate the decision of whether to accept or reject an order. The
accept/reject decision can be executed manually or algorithmically (the latter is more challenging). Your
spreadsheet should be organized so that the manual decision to accept an institutional order can be
made quickly. The instructions for accepting or rejecting an order should be made very clear.

(Note: your solution to this question must as a spreadsheet with macros (i.e. an
xlsm file) . Also make sure that the workings in your spreadsheet and VBA code are
clear and easy to follow.)

Dear advice giver,
I am a seventy year old woman.  I feel that life has passed me by and that there is nothing left for me.  My husband of 48 years died last year and my three children are all grown and live away.  I have friends but many of them have spouses and I do not want to be a fifth wheel. I have never worked outside of my house since my family was my occupation.   My health is declining and from long hours of watching television, my eyes are tired and I am rather stiff most days.  I would like to take piano lessons but I feel that I am too old.  There is not much that I feel that I can do and I am so lonely.  Can you offer me any advice?
Sincerely,
Desperate

Financial problem

Word document of 700–1,000 words with attached Excel Spreadsheet showing calculations

After engaging in a dialogue with your colleagues on valuation, you will now be given an opportunity to apply principles that were presented in this phase. Using a Web site that provides current stock and bond pricing and yield information, complete and analyze the tables illustrated below. Your mentor suggests using a Web site similar to this one.

To fill out the first table, you will need to select 3 bonds with maturities between 10 and 20 years with bond ratings of “A to AAA,” “B to BBB” and “C to CC” (you may want to use bond screener at the Web site linked above). All of these bonds will have these values (future values) of $1,000. You will need to use a coupon rate of the bond times the face value to calculate the annual coupon payment. You should subtract the maturity date from the current year to determine the time to maturity. The Web site should provide you with the yield to maturity and the current quote for the bond. (Be sure to multiply the bond quote by 10 to get the current market value.) You will then need to indicate whether the bond is currently trading at a discount, premium, or par.

Yield-to-Maturity (RATE)

Market Value (Quote)

Discount, Premium, Par

A-Rated

$1,000

B-Rated

$1,000

C-Rated

$1,000

  • Explain the relationship observed between ratings and yield to maturity.
  • Explain why the coupon rate and the yield to maturity determine why the bonds would trade at a discount, premium, or par.
  • Based on the material you learn in this Phase, what would you expect to happen to the yield to maturity and market value of the bonds if the time to maturity was increased or decreased by 5 years?

In this step, you have been asked to visit a credible Web site that provides detailed information on publicly traded stocks and select 1 that has at least a 5-year history of paying dividends and 2 of its closest competitors.

To fill up the first table, you will need to gather information needed to calculate the required rate of return for each of the 3 stocks. You will need to calculate the risk-free rate for this assignment. You will need the market return that was calculated in Phase 2, and the beta that you should be able to find on the Web site.

Company

5-year Risk-Free Rate of Return

Beta (ß)

5-Year Return on Top 500 Stocks

Required Rate of Return (CAPM)

To complete the next table, you will need the most recent dividends paid over the past year for each stock, expected growth rate for the stocks, and the required rate of return you calculated in the previous table. You will also need to compare your results with the current value of each stock and determine whether the model suggests that they are over- or underpriced.

Required Rate of Return (CAPM)

Estimated Stock Price (Gordon Model)

In the third table, you will be using the price to earnings ratio (P/E) along with the average expected earnings per share provided by the Web site. You will also need to compare your results with the current value of each stock to determine whether or not the model suggests that the stocks are over- or underpriced.

After completing the 3 tables, explain your findings and why your calculations coincide with the principles related to bonds that were presented in the Phase. Be sure to address the following:

  • Explain the relationship observed between the required rate of return, growth rate and the dividend paid, and the estimated value of the stock using the Gordon Model.
  • Explain the value and weaknesses of the Gordon model.
  • Explain the how the price-to-earnings model is used to estimate the value of the stocks.
  • Explain which of the 2 models seemed to be the most accurate in estimating the value of the stocks.
  • Based on the material that you learn in this Phase, what would you expect to happen to the value of the stock if the growth rate, dividends, required rate of return, or the estimated earnings per share were to increase or decrease? Be sure to explain each case separately.

Note: You can find information about the top 500 stocks at this Web site.
