Part One: The Literature Review

Select a business dilemma or management question. To get the most out
of this class, select a dilemma/question that is relevant to your
current or desired job.

Ex:
Social media is quite prevalent in today’s society. Many
organizations want to tap into the power of social media for marketing
purposes. What is the most effective way to do that…. Hmmm maybe I
should do some research…

2.
Google searches are fine for every day questions, but how do you know
the information you find it legitimate. Contrary to popular belief,
just because something is posted online, doesn’t mean it is accurate.
With that in mind, consult your local library or our online journal
resources for peer reviewed books and journal articles to help answer
your question. Schiller library resources are located under the
“Additional Resources” link on the course menu. You may find common
themes in your initial search that will lead to a deeper search of like
items and/or secondary resources.

3. Evaluate the value of each of the sources you selected.

In the real world, sometimes you will be able to stop at this stage
because you will have found your answers. Other times you may have to
do your own research. For this assignment and for this class, we are
going to assume additional research is necessary.

For this part of the assignment please do the following:

1. Identify
   the question/dilemma (from Part Two) and at least (4) four legitimate
   peer reviewed sources that attempt to address your dilemma/question
   (Part One).
2. Prepare
   at 4-5 page literature review of your sources. Remember, a literature
   review is not a research paper. You are simply summarizing and
   synthesizing the information you collected. It is NOT copying and
   pasting the information as plagiarism is a violation of University
   policy and will result in a 0 for this assignment.
3. Be
   sure your literature review is well organized, formatted in APA, and
   includes a reference page (which is NOT part of the 4-5 page count).

Part Two: Management Question/Research Question

In
the first part of this assignment you identified a work place problem
and located peer reviewed literature to conduct a literature review.
Now you are going to turn your work place problem into a management
question/research question. You will use this research question as the
basis for your research during the next four weeks. You need to have an
audience for your question because you will have to write and deploy a
survey next week. If you are not currently employed or do not think you
can come up with an audience for your area of research, please e-mail me
ASAP. I will help you brainstorm ideas on where to find your survey
audience.

Let’s
say the dilemma you used for your literature review was about the
causes or impact of declining employer morale. Your question might be
“How can we improve employee moral” or “Will improving employee morale
increase our productivity?” You get the idea.

Since
this is a four week course, you do not want to tackle a topic that
requires a six month observation period. So if your question is about
employee morale, don’t expect to solve the problem with your research,
you might be looking to find out your team’s thoughts on the impact of
the current culture or how they feel some of the literature best
practices might fare in your work place.

For this part of the assignment you need to:

• Write a research question that goes with your work place dilemma and literature review
• • Keep
    in mind the work place dilemma is a big picture issue, the literature
    review tries to look at that and give you clues to possible
    interventions. Your research question is about an intervention or idea.
  • Example:
    If my work place problem is student satisfaction is not as high as I
    would like, I would research student satisfaction in online higher
    education. I would learn that often times students feel alone and
    really want to feel engaged and like they are an important part of the
    organization. My research question might be: Would a weekly video
    overview and discussion lecture improve student satisfaction in an
    online classroom as compared to courses at the same institution that do
    not use these tools?
• Identify your data collection method
• • How
    will you collect your data to find out the answer to your research
    question. Per the final project directions, you are going to use a
    survey so your research problem has to be conducive to a survey.
    Perception, satisfaction, etc are all good topics for survey data.
• Tell me what type of study you believe you are going to do based on this week’s reading.
• • There
    are different types of research studies. It is important to pick a
    study type that fits with your project. Research study types are
    outlined in your reading. Be sure to select one and explain why it is
    the best fit.

In total you should have a 5-6 page paper that:

• identifies a research question
• includes a literature review from four (4) legitimate resources
• identifies the data collection method
• identifies and justifies the type of study you plan to perform

All
papers need to be in APA format, which includes a cover page and
references as a separate document not included in the 5-6 page
requirement.

Scenario:

You return on holiday from college and stop by your aunt and uncle’s house to take your four-year-old cousin out for ice cream. You are surprised to find her with a cast on her foot and bruises on both her legs and arms in different healing phases. You know that she was a sickly child who was prone to illnesses and could be very demanding, but you are concerned that someone may be abusing her.

When you ask her what happened, she simply shrugs her shoulders and demands that you pick her up and carry her around. You ask your aunt and uncle what happened to her, and they indicate that she is a clumsy child and keeps falling down.

You ask your mother if anyone in the family has ever been tested for osteogenesis imperfecta and Von Willebrand’s disease, which would be a medical explanation for these injuries, or if your uncle uses alternative medicinal practices, such as cupping.

Paper Requirements:

1. In your essay, determine whether your aunt and uncle’s explanation or your own suspicions are valid. How would you investigate to assess these claims? If the former is founded (you must specify how you verified your aunt and uncle’s claims), then you should suggest a few ways to help your relatives with your cousin in order to reduce her injuries.
2. If child abuse is substantiated (and you must specify how you made this analysis), then you must figure out what you should do to get your cousin assistance.
3. Write a two- to three-page paper, not including the required title and reference pages.
4. Support your analysis using and citing material from this week’s required readings.
5. Format your paper according to APA guidelines.

Write a six to eight (6–8) page paper in which you:

• Define the fundamental responsibilities and key characteristics of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) within health care organizations. Make one (1) recommendation where they can utilize their expertise to assist with employee and patient satisfaction. Support your response with related examples of such expertise in use.
• Suggest two (2) developing technologies that health care systems should use in order to improve health care processes and thus increase the quality and lower the cost of health services. Provide a rationale to support your response.
• Determine two (2) significant methods that health care systems should use in order to prevent misuse of information and protect data privacy and thus achieve a high level of security of health information. Provide a rationale to support your response.
• Suggest one (1) strategy for health care organizations to train providers in using technology in health care. Provide a rationale to support your response.
• Provide three (3) best practices for effective IT alignment and strategic planning initiatives. Justify your response.
• Use at least three (3) quality academic resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar type websites do not qualify as academic resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting guidelines:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

Final Paper Presentation

For the final paper, select a major category of applications (Financial, SCM, CRM, ERP, HRM, etc.) whose installation or upgrading would benefit your organization (or a previous organization). Provide a brief history of the category, then investigate and describe the three major vendor packages in your selected category. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each and select the package you would implement if given the chance. Justify your analysis and selection with properly quoted/cited materials from at least six sources.

For this presentation piece of the paper, develop a 5-7 minute presentation that highlights the main aspects of your paper. Include a brief history of your category, why that category is important to you, what packages you reviewed, which you selected and why. You will deliver this presentation at the final residency and submit the presentation file (with speaking notes)here for grading.
