Assessment Overview

Political philosophy concerns itself with the formation and maintenance of civil societies. Its central theme is the need to explain the relationship between individual human beings and their governments. You have been considering several specific examples of the tension between individual freedom and social institutions, as assigned by your instructor. From among those examples, you have chosen one as the focus for your own views on freedom and authority.

Assessment Instructions

Your assessment is to write an essay assessing the issue you selected, both in terms of versions of social contract theory proposed by Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau and from your own view of the proper relation between society and the individual.

Address the following concepts in your essay:

1. Explain the ethical basis for the relation of individuals to their government
2. Describe the theories of Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau about how societies are organized.
3. Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the theories in justifying the imposition of authority over individuals.
4. Apply these social contract theories to the issue you have selected.

Your instructor may provide video feedback on your work, as well as completing the official scoring guide for the assessment.

Assessment Requirements

• Written communication: Ensure written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
• APA formatting: Format resources and citations according to current APA style guidelines.
• Number of resources: Use your judgment to ensure your topic is thoroughly researched. There is no minimum number of resources required, however.
• Length of paper: Submit 2–3 typed, double-spaced pages.
• Font and font size: Use Arial, 12-point font.

In the previous Discussion Board assignment, you were working with a hiring manager to assist in collecting particular data for a job analysis. You will now create a detailed job description to attract qualified candidates for several customer service representative positions. Research and create a PowerPoint presentation of at least 6 slides with 200 or more words of speaker notes per slide that addresses the following:

• Describe up to 10 bulleted details that should be found in a customer service representative job description.
• What level of education and experience should be necessary for a customer service representative, and why?
• What level of knowledge of the industry should the customer service representative have, and why?

• Read critical thinking exercise on page 158 – staff on the oncology unit day shift.
• Cite content from your assigned readings and the literature to answer the following questions regarding the critical thinking exercise:
  • What are the key issues to consider about when to delegate and assign care to this patient?
  • What are the dimensions of power and conflict in this situation?
  • What are the problems presented in the case?
  • What are the possible solutions? Include at least 2 power and conflict resolution strategies and 2 communication techniques in your response.
  • To whom and what tasks should be delegated to facilitate the patient’s progression to surgery?
  • What are charge nurse Trader’s options if the staff refuse to accept the delegated tasks?

Your initial post must be posted before you can view and respond to colleagues, must contain minimum of two (2) references, in addition to examples from your personal experiences to augment the topic. The goal is to make your post interesting and engaging so others will want to read/respond to it. Synthesize and summarize from your resources in order to avoid the use of direct quotes, which can often be dry and boring. No direct quotes are allowed in the discussion board posts.

Topic: Write about the way that music has influenced you over time. It may just come down to you writing about particularly important or meaningful songs in your life and then explaining the role in the songs played in your development as a young adult. It could also be an explanation of how a particular genre of music has influenced you—when you think about the music you listen to, are you attracted to particular themes or issues that typically are discussed in the lyrics? Or has one band or a few bands played a particularly important role in your life thus far? Any of these approaches will work— your job, though, is to make sure that you are not only are examining the songs but also the influence and effect the music may have had on you as you’ve grown up.

Requirement: Double spaced, 4-5 pages.

You will conduct an assessment of your skills in the workplace and think ahead about those interpersonal skills that you will need in your desired profession. What do you do well? What are your deficits? What are the skills that you need to acquire? Limit your paper to two principal skills, read three journal articles about those skills, and then write up a plan for developing skills based upon what you read in the textbook and your view of the research. I will provide additional information about this assignment. This assignment should be typed, single-spaced, 10 or 12-point font, and 5-7 pages in length.

To further clarify, I’m looking for a paper around 5 pages in length but no longer than 7. This is an assignment in which I would like you to consult three outside sources and I would like them (preferably) to be peer reviewed journal articles. You can find them by looking in the Academic Search database (and click on “peer reviewed,” or the Communication and Mass Media database (again click on “peer reviewed”). You can get to this database by looking right on the library page at A-Z databases, click on that and then click on “C.” The Comm. and Mass Media Complete Database specializes on communication articles.

Begin as I say above and do a personal assessment of your skills and figure out which ones are needed for your intended profession. Limit your selection to two skills that you need and write up a plan for skill development based on what you’ve learned from your text and the research that you read. This is, in essence, a blueprint that you can use to improve your workplace communication. Because you’re already in the workforce, you may already know of deficits. But also look to the future. If you are in a job of your desired profession, what else might you need? Cite the research (and text) where relevant and provide a bibliography so that I know what sources you consulted.
