BUS520 Leadership and Organizational Behabvior week 5 dicussion

Part 1: Post a Response

We have all worked in a group or team at some point in our careers. A team is brought together to achieve a common goal. The team needs to have members who have complementary skills and who are committed to a common purpose to achieve performance goals. However, teams don’t move immediately toward performing, but instead evolve over time. There are five stages of group and team development.

  1. Forming – Getting oriented and getting acquainted. High degree of uncertainty as members as they try to figure out who is in charge.
  2. Storming – Personalities start to emerge, along with roles and conflicts within the group.
  3. Norming – In the third stage conflicts are resolved, relationships developed, harmony and unity surfaces.
  4. Performing – The members concentrate on solving problems and completing the assigned task.
  5. Adjourning – Members prepare to disband. Some members may be reassigned, terminated from the group or the group is resolved.

Think about a time when you joined a new group . . . it could be at work, in a family setting or with a social group.

  • Which of the five stages was the most challenging for the group to work through, and why?
  • How might you have helped the group work through that stage differently based upon what you know now about the five stages of group and team development?
  • View my video for a better understanding.

discussion board at least 250 words

Once you begin to look closely at editing, you will notice a great deal as to how film and television stitch together narratives and grab our attention. Many contemporary popular films continue the continuity approach to editing but also incorporate moments of discontinuity. Consider the degree to which particular film’s you’ve seen follow the Hollywood formula (establishing shot, eyeline matches, etc.) or break from it. Note a few cuts or transitions that come to mind in recent movies you’ve seen. How or why were these significant (or invisible)? How do such sequences help shape the experience of time, emotion, character, action?

You will likely note a few points in common between the Shohat & Stam and Stam and Spence essays, as both call for other modes of analysis and critique that are not simply concerned with representations, but consider a range of mediations, discourses, and voices. To begin, address how some particular ethnic or cultural “others” are typically presented in classical films (from 1900 to 1965) or beyond, and, more significantly, what messages are conveyed with such stereotypes—good or bad. What are the problems with “positive images” of minorities? With a few of these bullet points above images in mind, note how The Battle of Algiers and/or other films we’ve seen so far, frame certain discourses about race, ethnicity, gender, etc., and how the viewer may be “positioned” in relation to the characters on screen.

Resolving Ethical Dilemmas

To prepare for this assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Reflect on the ethical decision-making model that is presented.
  • Consider the various ethical dilemmas discussed, including therapist alliance with individuals in the couple or family, the paradoxical approach in counseling, and confidentiality issues.
  • Review the AAMFT and IAMFC Web sites. Reflect on how these organizations’ ethical codes might be applied in couples and family counseling.
  • Read the case study provided

The assignment: (1–2 pages)

  • Identify two potential ethical dilemmas presented in the above case.
  • Explain each of the possible ethical dilemmas, referencing specific ethical codes from either AAMFT or IAMFC.
  • Explain a potential resolution for each of the dilemmas you selected. Support your explanations using the ethical decision-making model in the Learning Resources.

Support your Application assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the Learning Resources for this course.

Discussion Board Post #8 pharm

J. F., a 15-year-old boy who weighs 110 pounds, is seeking treatment for a very itchy rash consisting of linear streaks of papules, vesicles, and blisters on his arms, legs, and face. He tells you he was hiking in the woods 2 days ago along trails lined with patches of shiny weeds with three leaves. He tried using calamine lotion and over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream but has had no relief from the itching.

Questions:

1. List specific goals of treatment for J. F.

2. What drug therapy would you prescribe? Why?

3. What are the parameters for monitoring the success of the therapy?

4. Discuss specific patient education based on the prescribed therapy.

5. List one or two adverse reactions for the selected agent that would cause you to change therapy.

6. What would be the choice for second-line therapy?

7. What over-the-counter and alternative medications would be appropriate for J. F.?

8. What lifestyle changes would you recommend to J. F.?

9. Describe one or two drug–drug or drug–food interactions for the selected agent.

Discussion Board Post #7 health promo

Please respond to both of the following discussion questions:

1.  Discuss the causes of dental caries in children and prevention strategies in primary care.  Explain two oral care objectives in Healthy People 2020.

2.  What should your response be to parents who do not vaccinate their children? How do the skills of motivational interviewing and cultural humility help us with this interaction/teaching?

Intervenors paper writing

1. Would you describe the actions of the London Gaelic League and the Irish Dancing Commission regarding Irish dance as “inventing tradition”? As revival? As a nativistic movement? A revitalisation movement? Why? Include some discussion of definitions in your answer, as well as an overview of the efforts of the two organizations. If you find it helpful, you might consider how things might be different now if the London Gaelic League and the Irish Dancing Commission hadn’t acted when they did. [Suggested length: 1 page +, 15 points]

Choose three of the following 5-point questions to answer [Suggested length: 2-3 paragraphs per question].

2. Is a revived tradition “authentic” (or “genuine”)? Hint: Consider carefully the meanings of terms. OR you may choose to answer the question: Is a “revivalist” — who may be from outside the original culture — an authentic tradition-bearer? (This is a question with which some festival presenters have wrestled.)

3. Give an example in which the process of selection/intervention by an “official” person or organization excluded elements of musical/dance culture that were valued by others. OR give an example in which the process of selection/intervention by an “official” person or organization imposed new standards on a tradition.

4. Is formalized teaching beneficial or harmful to traditional culture previously passed on informally? What are some of the advantages and drawbacks of having traditional music and dance competitions? (Consider the functions of the activities, and the consequences to the individuals involved as well as the tradition itself.)

5. Describe some issues that modern scholars have with how songs or tunes were collected in the past (flaws in methodology). Give at least one example.

Privatization

  • To begin your thread for a particular module, select a key term found in the Key Terms page of the Chapters in the textbook. All key terms are in bold within the chapter text or listed in the Key Terms box at the end of the chapter. Select one of the key terms that interests you.
  • Declare your topic to the class by posting a new thread in the related DB forum and titling it with the key term you selected. This reserves your topic so that other students cannot use it.
  • Conduct an Internet search to find and read at least 3 recent articles that relate to the key term you selected. Articles may be found in the International section of any reputable website that focuses on international business, such as Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, or the Economist. Another good source of information is EBSCOhost, accessible through Liberty’s online library. Websites like about.com, britanica.com, Wikipedia etc. do not constitute scholarly academic articles and references.
  • Of the 3 articles you’ve read, select the article that you wish to discuss, and write a review of it. In addition, you must post all 3 (or more) recent articles to the reference section—even though you review only one of them. You may provide additional references, but references do not replace 3 articles that relate to your key term. Actually reference the article you review within the article review. Your review must include the following sections (each section must be structured by a heading for each section):
  1. A definition of the key term: this does not count in the 200 word minimum requirement.
  2. A summary, in your own words, of the selected article.
  3. A discussion, in your own words, of how the article relates to the selected chapter and key term.
  4. The complete citation, in APA format, of each of the 3 articles read and any other additional references; these do not count in the 200-word requirement.
  5. All references must be annotated.

This is a job analysis report

The purpose of this assignment is to give you first-hand experience in analyzing a job and developing a job description and job competencies list. You will be analyzing the job of one of the other students in this class. It doesn’t matter what type of job the student does – if the student is not working, analyze the job he or she hopes to have upon graduation.

Using the techniques presented in class, you will conduct a job requirements analysis, and use that information to develop a combined job description/job specification.

Your final report should contain the following sections:

1.The Job – What job (job title) did you choose to study and why?

2.The Methods Used – What methods did you use (prior information, observation, interviews, task questionnaires, committee, combinations of these), and exactly how did you use them?

3.The Sources Used – What sources did you use (job analyst, job incumbent, supervisor, subject matter experts, combinations of these), and exactly how did you use them?

4.The Process Used – How did you go about gathering, synthesizing, and reporting the information?

5.The Matrix – Present the actual job requirements matrix.

6.The Job Description/Specification – Take the information from the job requirements matrix and turn it into a completed job description.Your goal is to use the job requirements job analysis approach to develop a job description containing:

†Essential Job Functions (Duty Areas)

†Job Tasks and Duties

†Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Used to Do the Job

†Physical Requirements of the Job

†Equipment Used on the Job

†Supervision/Contacts for the Job

†Career Path Associated with Job

†Competencies Required for Career Path

You must also include steps 1-5 above.

Testing & Selection Homework

Human Resource Evaluation

The company where you did your job analysis assignment has hired you to improve their current selection and performance management systems. To illustrate your skills in this area, you will present a proposal for a new selection system for this job. Your proposal will be written to the Director of Human Resource Management, and you will need to respond to EACH of the following items in your proposal:

1.Describe the job and the selection system for which you will be proposing changes. Start by reviewing the major job tasks and skills, as defined in the job description. Next, tell me how job applicants are currently recruited, screened, and selected.

2.Evaluate the current selection system for this job. This would include observations about legal liabilities, current job analyses and descriptions for the job, reliability and validity information, appropriateness and completeness of current methods of selection. If tests and formal interviews are currently being used for selection, include a copy of them in APPENDIX A. If you cannot obtain complete information, at least include sample questions.

3.Propose how you would improve the selection system for this job. Include in your proposal:

a. A discussion of necessary preparatory stages (e.g., Would you need to do further job analysis, and if so, what steps would you take? What additional information would be needed to do your work?)

b. A description of the predictors you would use in the selection system. Be sure to consider interviews and job-related skill assessment tests in addition to paper and pencil tests. Explain in detail why you think these predictors are appropriate for the job at hand, including information on validity and reliability (note that content validity information is one way of establishing validity when predictive validity information is not available.)You must cite at least one current reference outside of your text book for each proposed selection technique. Be sure to provide a complete citation with each reference, including the author’s names, the title of the article, the publication title, the publication date, and the page numbers. Include a copy of each of the tests/interviews you are proposing to use in APPENDIX B. If you do not have or cannot obtain a complete copy of the test, at least put sample questions in the appendix.

c. A description of the steps you would take to evaluate the reliability and predictive validity of the tests for your particular job in your particular company. Include specific information in this section, especially the criterion measures you propose using to test the validity of the predictors and how they will be collected.

Basic information on using the Internet to find tests is given below.

1.Start with Google – look to see what types of websites come up when you put in words related to the type of test you want to use. For example, ‘selection test electrical manager’ results in multiple hits.

2.Go through the pages presented on Google, and look to see whether or not the companies presented on those pages are reputable. Seek out information such as the education level of the company personnel, sample items from tests, the availability of validity information, etc. Don’t be afraid to play with your keywords until you start finding the kinds of tests that are right for your job.

3.Another place to look for tests is in advertisements in professional journals. Test publishers who specialize in a particular type of test will often advertise in the professional journals for that field.

4.The following websites contain a vast store of valuable information related to identifying and selecting tests:

a. How to Select Tests: http://www.hr-guide.com/data/G364.htm

b. Overview – Principles of Assessment: http://www.hr-guide.com/data/G368.htm

c. Overview – Selection: http://www.hr-guide.com/selection.htm

d. Online Test Information: http://www.hr-guide.com/data/G371.htm

e. Pan Testing Website (tests and manuals): http://www.pantesting.com/home.htm

5.Be sure to note reference resources in the “How to Select Tests” website – Mental Measurements Yearbook, Tests in Print, and Test Critiques are all valuable sources of information when looking for a test.

Performance Management Homework

The purpose of this assignment is to develop a performance management process for an existing job, have a manager give you feedback on the process, then use the process and evaluate its effectiveness for yourself. The assignment will involve establishing methods for planning performance, providing feedback during the execution of performance, assessing performance, reviewing performance, and renewing and reconstructing performance.

Part I – Create a performance management instrument/process.

Using your job description, and any additional materials you have at hand (e.g. past performance reviews, strategic planning documents, training materials, etc.), create a performance management process. The performance management process should include the following components:

1) Identify the purpose of rating – tell me how the rating system you are proposing will be used. Ratings that are done for developmental purposes are less likely to have an overall summary “number” as a final result, and are more likely to focus on how to help the employee improve after the rating has been given (thus, they may include developmental plans, educational goals, etc.)Ratings that are done for personnel decisions vary depending on the type of personnel decision made. For example, a raise-related rating may be a single number that expresses an overall performance level, whereas a layoff rating may involve ranking employees.

-development

-personnel decisions

o raises

o promotions

o layoffs

o etc.

2) Identify the people who have first-hand information about performance – who will participate in the performance management process. These are people you might talk with when determining performance expectations in step 3 below.Remember that you may need to consult with multiple people to get a complete picture of an employee’s overall performance.

-employee

-manager

-subordinates

-clients

3) Establish performance expectations.

-be sure expectations are job related

-align expectations with corporate goals

-set expectations at “satisfactory” level

-expectations should include both “hard numbers” and behaviors

-make sure that expectations are consistent across all people who perform the job

-involve people with information about performance in setting expectations

-establish the circumstances under which the expectations are required to be met

-distribute finalized expectations (including purpose of appraisal) to employees

4) Create process for collecting and giving feedback on performance information

-determine who collects information, and from whom they collect it

o who has the ability to rate performance information in comparison to standards?

o who has information about performance?

§self

§supervisor

§peers

§clients

-determine the rating scale that will be used in documenting performance. Consider using the following four-point scale, as follows:

1 = Does Not Meet Expectations

2 = Meets Expectations

3 = Exceeds Expectations

4 = Far Exceeds Expectations

-create any forms that will be needed for data collection and the final performance appraisal report

-determine how employee will get feedback on performance

o feedback must be given as close in time as possible to actual performance

o feedback must contain constructive suggestions for improvement

-determine other means of collecting information

o technical approaches (computer monitoring, etc.)

o routine reports

-create a communication process

o training in giving feedback

o training in using/accepting feedback

-determine how performance information will be documented, collected, and stored

5) Establish results of performance appraisal process

-Determine who will create an overall rating of performance

o eliminate bias

o authority

o credibility

-Determine how rating will be used

-Establish process for combining performance information to create overall rating

o averaging (best for evaluation)

o emerging themes (best for development)

-Create documentation & storage process for final ratings

-Create links between rating and outcomes/rewards (note that ratings are rarely the ONLY criteria for personnel decisions – other factors should be identified and communicated.)

6)Feedback (Part II)

-Determine when performance rating will be given

-Determine how performance rating will be given (paper, in person, both)

-Determine process for incorporating employee feedback into communication process (add listening to process.)

7) Establish an appeals process

-Identify what employees should do when they disagree with rating

Part II – Evaluate your performance management process

The purpose of this part of the assignment is to give you feedback on your work – in particular to find out how well your “theoretical” process might work in the “real world.” There are two ways of doing this, do both.

First, use the process you have developed to evaluate someone’s performance. Using the forms and communication processes you have developed, either get feedback on your own work, or give someone else feedback on their work. It is likely that you will have to involve a supervisor (either your own or someone else’s) in this process. To do that, explain clearly that you have created a new process for a class, and that your professor has asked you to get feedback on how well it works. Be sure that everyone concerned knows that any information given will be for the class project only, and offer to sign a statement to that effect if necessary.

The second part of the evaluation process will be to get comments from the people who might use your process – both reviewers (managers) and reviewees (employees.)Talk to at least two people who might use the performance management form, and two people who might be reviewed using that form. Find out from them what they think of the process in terms of:

o fairness

o accuracy

o usability (time needed to complete, complexity of process, etc.)

Using the information above, assess the effectiveness of your proposed performance management process, and recommend any changes you would like to make to the process to make it more effective in the future.
