ENG2206 Hardships, Optimism and Success

To Read: Voltaire, Candide p. 369-431 (Vol. D)

Bashō, “From the Narrow Road to the Deep North” p. 682-694 (Vol. D)

Keep in mind that your initial post needs to be at least 250 words in length.

Your topic for Week #2: Both Candide and the segment we’re reading from The Narrow Road to the Deep North involve travel. What is an important idea that comes across in each text regarding travel or movement and why it might be important? You do need to include at least one specific example from each text, although the overall idea you focus on does not have to be the same for both texts. You can see something different in Voltaire’s story than you do in Basho’s travelogue.

A Public Leader, paper help (4-5 pages)

  • Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

    1. Based on your response to Question 3 in Assignment 1, use the Internet to
      research two (2) renowned public leaders—one (1) male and one (1) female—that
embody your selected theory(ies) and styles. Develop a brief overview (i.e., no
more than one [1] paragraph for each leader) of the selected leaders and the
leadership theory that defines each as a public administrator.
    2. Compare and contrast the leadership theories of the two (2) selected leaders
in Question #1. (Consider some of the following: theories that make him / her
effective as a leader; whether or not his / her gender impacts his or her
ability to lead; supervisors’ and subordinates’ view of him / her as a
      leader.)
    3. Determine three (3) leadership style strengths and three (3) leadership
style weaknesses of each of the selected public leaders. Evaluate the
effectiveness of each public leader in terms of each leader’s major
      successes.
    4. Suggest one (1) key strength or weakness that could influence your ability
      to be a public leader.
    5. Include at least four (4) peer-reviewed references (no more than five [5]
years old) from material outside the textbook. Note: Appropriate peer-reviewed
references include scholarly articles and governmental Websites. Wikipedia,
other wikis, and any other Websites ending in anything other than “.gov” do not
      qualify as academic resources.

Read the case study “The Estimating Problem” on page 734 and then answer the questions on page 735.

Read the case study “The Estimating Problem” on page 734 and then answer the questions on page 735.

Original responses should not be a word for word rehashing of what is stated in the readings, but rather an integration of the concepts and additional insights, either from real world experience or additional sources. It should be a 350 word response to the question . Your primary posting may end with a tag-line or a related question of your own. See APA criteria for citing resources. You must provide a minimum of a two references, in APA format, in your original response. note: 1.References (this does not count toward the required paper length)

FINALLY, you must cite your sources after every sentence which contains information from one of your sources. Just putting a citation at the end of a paragraph or section is not sufficient.

Shared Practice: Product and Brand Life Cycle Management

**** Please use USA based business and resources please****

Marketers often recognize that what is desirable at one time is not always equally desirable in another. Marketers of products are often concerned with the product life cycle (PLC). The PLC may be affected by many variables internal to the firm, its competitors, and external variables such as the economy. For example, at the height of the real estate market in many parts of the globe, there were new and innovative products for the owner-occupant, the investor, lenders, builders, and more. But when the recession took hold, many of these products were no longer in demand; thus, these products experienced a very short life cycle. Other products have enjoyed prolonged and even extended life cycles. Keep in mind the difference between a brand life cycle (e.g., Panasonic VHS player) and the product life cycle (e.g., VHS technology) because, often, the demand for the brand is reduced while the product category continues on.

For this Shared Practice, consider the impact of global markets, especially for large companies with resources. For example, although the General Motors (GM) Buick brand had a market share of 62.6 percent in 1980, by 2009 it was in the decline stage at less than 20 percent. This was primarily because the market demographic had aged and younger buyers ignored the brand in favor of brands with which they could identify. So, the product life cycle continued while the brand declined. Buick decided to re-position the brand in the United States for baby boomers and to make it the primary brand of GM in China. Today, the Buick brand is the number 1 selling U.S. brand in China, and its brand life cycle has been extended and will likely shift into the growth mode again (Helper & Henderson, 2014).

For this Shared Practice, also think about the discussion of product life cycle in the course text, the media on “Marketing and New Technologies,” and the Kvesic (2008) article, and reflect on products you have personally used.

By Day 5

Post the following:

  • Identify one product or brand that you think is in the growth stage of the PLC. Describe the product industry and provide support for your position.
  • Identify a product or brand that you think is in a mature or decline stage or beyond. Describe the product industry and provide support for your position.
  • Describe the impact of the product or brand’s life cycle on the role of marketing mix variables (product, price, promotion, and place/distribution). In other words, how do these variables change over the product or brand’s life cycle?

Seeing Gender and Sexuality: The Gender Journal Assignment.

Assignment Outline:

The gender journal assignment is an exercise in “seeing the unseen” as it relates to norms, expectations, behaviors and representations associated with gender and sexuality. We will have four gender journal assignments over the course of the semester. For each of these you will write short entries (approximately 2 double-spaced pages, using 1 inch margins and standard 12 point font) about your observations and experiences. The idea for the assignment is to notice how cultural constructions related to gender and sexuality are all around us. As you move through your daily life, try to pay attention to gender as it happens (take the role of an ethnographer, with your life as your subject). You might notice, for example, gendered advertising on television or in magazines, gendered assumptions about politicians or public figures, the ways that men and women that you do not know carry themselves or interact with each other in public, or how men and women you do know (or you yourself) “do” gender. As you make your observations and write your journal assignments, please make an effort to build upon the concepts and ideas you have learned in this class, using terms and facts from our textbook and other course materials. In your writing, please be as specific as possible.

The best method for completing this assignment is to set aside a few minutes a day to write down your thoughts and experiences that are relevant to gender and sexuality before you forget them. Your journal assignments are due on the date listed in the syllabus and should be submitted in the appropriate Moodle assignment box. Your journal entries can cover multiple observations or they can be more detailed descriptions of one specific gender or sexuality-related thing that you noticed or experienced. In the pages that follow I am including some examples from last semester’s class of exceptionally good gender journal assignments. I suggest reading through these before writing your first assignment.

final exam

This exam covers all readings, course activities, and lecture content assigned from Modules 01 through 06. Choose one of the five questions below. Write an essay response of 250-300 words. In your response, be sure to refer to specific concepts from the readings, lecture notes, and/or discussions, and use these concepts to support your points. Please state the question prior to your answer.

  1. Explain what sociologist Howard S. Becker meant when he said, “it is not the act itself, but the reaction to the act, that make something deviant.”
  2. Explain the difference between individual and institutional discrimination, giving examples of each type of discrimination. Then explain how these forms of discrimination are different from prejudice and stereotypes.
  3. Of the three theories of global stratification (modernization theory, dependency theory, and world systems theory), which do you think is most relevant or useful for understanding global inequality? Explain why in detail, using specific examples to support your points.
  4. Explain how functional theory would interpret the causes and consequences of technological advances in American society. Choose one particular type of technology to focus on, such as texting or social networking via Facebook or Twitter.
  5. Compare and contrast two social movement theories, such as deprivation theory and resource mobilization theory. Use examples from a specific social movement to support your points.

Submit your completed assignment in one file to the drop box below. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates.

Compliance programs, law homework help

Compliance programs must be comprehensive and clear. Additionally, in
the health care industry, compliance programs must incorporate elements
identified by the Office of the Inspector General.

Using Microsoft Word, prepare a document that meets the following criteria:

  • List the seven areas that build the framework necessary for an effective compliance program and describe each one.

Your responses must be analytical and apply the law that you
are learning. Each answer should be a minimum of one full paragraph.

You will be assessed on the nature and scope of your research and the depth of analysis in your response.

Your completed assignment should be 2 page(s) in length. Reference all sources.

UWEAR and PALEDENIM

400-600 word

Read the UWEAR and PALEDENIM scenario found here. You will first meet with the CEOs of each organization, Theresa Tramlin and Mike Miller, to help them understand their important leadership roles for the success of the merger.

After reviewing the course materials for this week, prepare your recommendations for them regarding their approaches to leading the merger. The merger is a significant change for both organizations; there is growing anxiety and uncertainty among the employees of both organizations. The goal is to complete the merger in a way that maintains employee performance and allegiance to the merged organization. Both CEOs were promoted from managerial positions, so one of your tasks is to help them understand how to distinguish the two roles.

Issues to address include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • How will you explain the difference between managing and leading, to set the stage to help Theresa and Mike focus on leading?
  • What leadership approaches will be effective in leading the merger? Include at least 3 approaches, and explain in what circumstances those approaches should be used and why.
  • Consider the research findings by Kabacoff (1998) that, although men and women are perceived as equally effective in leading, women tend to focus more on production, attaining results, and people, while men tend to focus on strategic planning, organization vision, and business tasks. If this is the case in this situation for Theresa and Mike, what are the implications for their leadership during the merger?
  • Reflect on your own experience as a leader, if not professionally, then in the community or family. With which leadership approaches are you most comfortable? What are the implications for you if you were one of the leaders in this scenario?

can positive psychology make us happier?, psychology homework help

read and write

. Paper must be about 2 complete double spaced pages in length and no longer than 2 ¼ pages in length. Below are the directions.

Each student will be required to choose a psychological concept or topic from what we have covered in class (either from chapter assignments or from class discussions). First, you must provide a clear summary of the topic, including a brief description (in your OWN words) of what psychologists and researchers have learned relevant to the topic. You must think critically about what we do and do not know about the topic based on the research found in the text or reviewed in class. You may choose to have additional references for this portion of your paper, but they are not required. Then, discuss how it relates to a real-world topic of your choosing. NOTE: the real-world topic and psychological concept you choose must relate directly to the course. If the connection to the course seems unclear, make it clear in your paper. That is, you must write about something in the news or something you or a friend have experienced that directly relates to something in class. You must describe HOW it relates. Give many clear examples illustrating the connection. Basically, and most importantly, show me that you have thought critically about it. Don’t just summarize the issue. Tell me how it is related to something you find interesting.

To summarize, here are the instructions on writing a satisfactory final paper:

1. Choose a psychological concept or topic (e.g., depression, short-term memory, classical conditioning, sleep, introversion/extraversion, psychotherapy) from what we have covered in class either from chapter assignments, Taking Sides articles, or class discussions. Explain why it interests you.
2. The topic you choose must relate directly to the course. If the connection to the course seems unclear, make it clear in your paper.
3. Clearly describe the psychological topic you are addressing and provide a brief description of what psychologists have learned about this topic.
4. Relate the topic to a few examples in your own life, the lives of others, and/or an issue that relates to society in general (e.g., something in the news).
