• Refer to your textbook on pg. 160 (Chapter 7). Read or reread the “Local Research” Case Study, and briefly respond to the questions asked at the bottom.
• What is the one concept of Chapter 8 that you find the most applicable to your present or desired career? Explain your answer.
• As a consumer, what kind of internet and digital advertising is the most influential (pg. 207)? Which type of ad would most likely compel you to interact with it (i.e: click on it, purchase from it, read it, etc.)? Why?

During and subsequent to a traumatic experience, people often have emotional, cognitive, behavioral and physiological reactions. We need to recognize that these reactions do not necessarily portray pathological or unhealthy responses. In most cases subsequent to a trauma, individuals have what may be considered normal responses to an abnormal event. The length of the symptoms, whether they combine with other symptoms, pre-event level of functioning, and how the individual functions as time moves forward ultimately determines if the symptoms were normal under the circumstances, or if they were or became maladaptive and unhealthy.

The following is just for you & no one will see your answers. Think of a crisis, disaster or trauma to which you were exposed & from which you have recovered. If you’ve been incredibly fortunate to have no such direct exposure thus far, think about one you’ve seen on television or in the news. From the list below indicate which symptoms, if any, you experienced and how long they lasted before they resolved.

Once you’ve done your self-assessment, submit a brief two -three paragraph to the discussion area that summarizes the coping strategies or skills that you used to recover from the trauma you personally experienced or vicariously experienced via the news. You should only include the coping skills or strategies. Please do not include your self-assessment as that is your private & personal information.

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 9 of the course textbook, and review sections 2.5, 3.1, and 3.2 from previous chapters. Also, read the articles Children’s Sense of Self: Learning and Meaning in the Digital Age and Personal Self-Concept and Satisfaction With Life in Adolescence, Youth, and Adulthood (Dodge, Barab, Stuckey, Warren, Heiselt, & Stein, 2008; Palacios, Echaniz, Fernández, & Barrón, 2015).

The concept of self is a core concept for the study of personality, and most of the theories we have studied in this course postulate some idea about what constitutes the self. This week’s materials examine the self-psychology model, which presents several theories regarding how we perceive ourselves and how that perception is expressed in personalities.

In your initial post:

• Identify two theories of self from those discussed in Chapter 9 that resonate the most with you.
• Provide a brief overview of each theory, being sure to identify the principal theorists associated with each of your two chosen theories.
• Explain why you relate to these theories.
• Describe the impact of the current digital age on the concept of self, including the impact of social media on the way we perceive ourselves.
• Explain whether or not our perceptions of self are evolving because of social media, including the idea of a digital self, and provide examples of how this might be happening or provide a rationale as to why you believe it is not happening.

In your opinion, which movement was particularly successful or unsuccessful, and explain why you think that.
