For the final Portfolio Project, you will write a paper about a person or an event in a period of U.S. history up to Reconstruction that is relevant to your major area of study or of interest to you. You will write about this person or event from the perspective of another historical personality who lived at the same time as the person or event you are going to describe.

For your historical personality, try to select someone from an under-represented population (examples of possible perspectives include that of Anne Hutchinson, Pocahontas, or Sojourner Truth). This analysis is to make you think about how events/people’s actions were interpreted at the time.

• Remember that you will be writing from the perspective of a historical person about another person or an event from a period of U.S. history up to Reconstruction. From your historical person’s perspective, provide a thorough summary of the person or event you’ve chosen to write about, including the incidents that took place and any key individuals involved or affected.
• Address the general importance of the person or event in the context of U.S. history.
• Now, explain specifically how the person or event changed “your” daily life—“you” being the historical persona you have adopted.
• Think long-term: How will the person or the event you are describing make a long-term impact in the lives of people who are in the under-represented group to which your historical person/perspective belongs?

Paper Requirements:

• Your paper must be four to six pages, not including the required references and title pages.
• Use at least five sources, not including the textbook. Include a scholarly journal article. Include at least one primary source from those identified in the syllabus. Definition of a Primary Source: A primary source is any source, document or artifact that was created at the time of the event. Craig Brown, a mechanic, is planning to open his own car repair shop. He has selected the location, the kinds of cars that he will service, and the number of people that he will employ. However, he needs some help with the capitalization of the machines that he needs to buy, and how he has to depreciate these assets. He approaches you, an accountant friend, to help him understand the fundamentals of capitalization of expenses, the various depreciation methods, and the impact of this depreciation expense related to his assets on the financial statements. You use a former client and other businesses in the industry to prepare a report explaining these concepts to him.

Part 1A

• Explain to Craig the following:
  • Why it is it important to distinguish between expenses that need to be capitalized and expenses that need to be expensed.

The company’s fiscal year ends on December 31. Using the following information, compute depreciation for this machine for each of the 4 years using each of the following methods:

Research the annual reports of various companies to find examples of the following, and explain the meaning of your findings to Craig:

• Equity securities:Find a company that has investments and equity securities listed on its balance sheet.

Identify, analyze, and record accounting error corrections.

• Find a company that has accounting changes or correction of errors in its annual report.

  • Explain the net impact on the financial statements.
• In 20X0, ABC company purchased machine for $300,000 that had a useful life of 5 years, with a salvage value of $50,000 at the end its life. Depreciation was calculated over 2 years on straight-line basis. In 20X2, it determined that the total life should be 10 years with the salvage value of $5,000 at the end its life.
  • Prepare the entry to correct the depreciation for 20X1.

Assignment 3: Case Study: Ethical Decision Making

Read the section “Course Case Study”
and analyze the behavior of the counselor, as a professional, that you
consider unethical or unprofessional. Write a brief summary of the
questionable behavior. Substantiate the summary with reasons for your
analysis.

Next, identify how the counselor may have
been in violation of the ACA Code of Ethics. Give the number and
definitions of specific violations and compare these violations to the
APA ethical standards.

In relation to these specific violations, describe the similarities or differences in the ACA and APA ethical codes.

Finally, select an ethical decision-making
model from those in your readings and apply the model to a minimum of
one ethical dilemma you identified in the course scenario.

Your paper should be at least 4 pages long,
not counting the title page and the reference page. Save the paper as
