Using the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELP) from Arizona or from your state, select a stage (grade level) for a group of students of your choosing. Create a content objective and a language objective using the English Language Arts Standards from AZ or from your state for your group of ELLs at the Basic Proficiency Level for each of the following domains:

  1. Listening and Speaking
  2. Reading
  3. Writing

Include a 500-750-word summary below the chart (within the same document) that contains rationales for each of the three domains that describes how the objectives you wrote address the characteristics of a basic ELL level and accounts for the theoretical language acquisition principles mentioned in your required reading.

In this summary, explain how content area teachers can write lesson plans in which all of the standards (ELP and content) support one another and actually provide scaffolding opportunities for students.

discussion!!

Read “You Make the Call: How connected should we be?” on page 59 of the Mental Health and Stress chapter.

After reading the article and the entire Mental Health & Stress Chapter, discuss your educated opinion on this topic. Whenever possible, relate your answers to our course material.

Are we as a society “too connected?” Do you think this issue of connectivity (maybe social media specifically) affects mental health? Do you personally find that you struggle to disconnect? Are there certain daily times / activities you feel that should be absolutely free from device connectivity? You may want to discuss the pros and cons of constant connectivity that you have experienced in your own life, or the lives of those close to you. What strategies are available to help someone who is struggling to disconnect for a healthly period of time?

Discussion Board : Foreign Trade

David Ricardo was the first economist to elaborate the theory of comparative advantage in his book On the Principles of Political Economy and Taxation. Ricardo wrote:

Under a system of perfectly free commerce, each country naturally devotes its capital and labour to such employments as are most beneficial to each. This pursuit of individual advantage is admirably connected with the universal good of the whole . . . It is this principle, which determines that wine shall be made in France and Portugal, that corn shall be grown in America and Poland, and that hardware and other goods shall be manufactured in England. (1817, p. 188)

Think about the 10-year historical period you chose for your final project. Identify trade policies of the time and discuss the following points:

  • What are the main goods and services the United States traded internationally?
  • What trade barriers were in place during that decade?
  • What are two pros and two cons of the trade barriers used?

Play devil’s advocate and attempt to debunk two peers’ opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of an open economy.

Strategic Plan and Forecasting

Team Report: Strategic Plan and Forecast: The management team should draft a Strategic Plan and Forecast outlining a competitive strategy for the selected organization over a three-year outlook period.

Reference the team’s vision/mission/values/objectives and performance expectations. Analyze the organization’s industry.

Review company baseline statistics regarding marketing, product design, assembly, human resources and finances which in turn may be summarized in a brief SWOT and tied to financial and market share outlook targets. Develop annual income statement projections.

The team strategy must be tailored to case specifics and might deviate from any particular generic competitive strategy option, such as the low cost leadership or differentiation or focused forms discussed in the textbook.

The report should include a brief introduction indicating report organization and contributions of the participants. End the report with a summary and conclusions. The report should amount to around 15 pages of narrative text, not counting title page, any appendixes, list of references or tables and figures, etc. Demonstrate good grasp of course concepts — but do not include lengthy reviews of literature or repetition of textbook material within the principal sections of the report.
