I have learned a lot, during my 8 weeks in this class. Some things were refreshers, while other things was new information. I discovered further information on security/privacy settings offered by social media sites. This means a lot to me because I am a private person, and I would like to keep it that way without become a pariah. This way I can have a social media account and feel comfortable that my information and identity is safe.

The knowledge I acquired on the importance of a firewall, has assisted in sharpening my personal cyber security tools. I was aware of the the firewall prior to taking this class, however I was not certain exactly what it did. Now I understand that a firewall cannot catch and prevent all threats, it is a good safety net to have because it can still prevent some of the threats coming in. Accompanied with an anti-virus software a firewall can do wonders for your cyber security needs.

Finally, I have gained additional knowledge on malware and the different types of malware that can infect your computer. I have always known about viruses but I did not know they were considered malware. I also learned I need to re-enforce the habit of not opening emails from unknown senders. Especially, if they have attachments. Gaining this knowledge means a lot to me because in this age of technology it is nice to be able to protect your personal information as well as your devices. Viruses, spyware, worms, Trojan horses, etc can have harmful effects to your devices. Knowing as much as I can to prevent threats from happening will help me in the long run protect both my personal information and devices from harm. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this class and cannot wait to use my knowledge to assist in real world scenarios.

Unit Plan

As we have learned over the last five weeks, using literature in the classroom is a powerful tool for helping to meet your students’ developmental needs.  For your Final Project, you will build upon the lesson that you created in Week Two of this course and develop it into a week-long unit.  Your unit will need to include the following components:

  1. A paragraph introducing your theme or concept for the entire week. 
  2. A rationale for your unit that clearly describes the stage of development the students you will be teaching are in.  
  3. A paragraph describing the work of a theorist whose beliefs help to support the use of this unit within this stage of development.  
  4. Create five different lesson plans that relate to the chosen theme/concept of your unit.  One of these lessons should come from the Story Element Lesson Plan you created in Week Two. 

  5. Explain how the objectives for your lessons measure concepts discussed in class (phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, character, setting, plot, theme, etc.).  
  6. Identify and discuss a different genre of literature for each lesson plan (poetry, nursery rhymes, tactile books multicultural books, picture books, non-fiction books, series books, etc.). Feel free to use some of the literature you included in your weekly discussions if they are appropriate to your theme and stage of development.  
  7. Create a plan for how you will share the literature that you are using with your students’ families so they can help to support literacy acquisition. This case (found at the end of chapter 9) consists of the financial exhibits from the P’kolino case analyzed in a previous lesson. The P’kolino financials are pretty detailed; they should begin to acquaint the new entrepreneur with the sort of financial planning needed to get a substantial enterprise off the ground. Please pay special attention to the financial assumptions—numbers alone are just gobbledegook. They need to be based on real assumptions connecting projections to the real world.
Please answer the following questions in the discussion:

  1. How do the common-sized income sheet ratios compare to industry standards? Can you explain the variances in a way the makes the projections seem sound?
  2. How do the revenues per employee compare to industry standards? Again, can you explain the variances?
  3. Do the financial projections accurately capture all the expenses that are implied in the written plan (refer back to the previous case)?
  4. Is the proposed financing sufficient to cover the company’s cash flow needs? What happens if sales are not as high or quick to materialize as expected?
