It seems that there are different definitions for organized crime but it essentially is a group of individuals who have some kind of organization or structure and use their positions for more harm than good with a main goal of obtaining money and possibly power. Most organized crime happens in groups of possibly three or more people but that doesn’t mean they are all in the same place. Organized criminal organizations have little to no respect for the laws that govern what ever country they are located in.

There are different models but in reading it seems that the main one is a bureaucracy which has pros and cons (as with most bureaucracies). In a bureaucracy, there is more structure and different levels of leadership along with strict guidelines on who can communicate with who. Another part would be compartmentalization, having small groups of people called cells in different areas which in organized crime can be beneficial especially for police raids and such. Organized crime can also come in forms of strict ethnicity , friendship, etc.

2.Organized crime is a criminal group or enterprise that often operates with some sort of hierarchy to those involved. Often we will see different responsibilities or purposes at the different ranks or levels within the organization. Ranks levels or positions do not have to be dependent on skill and can be filled by any means whether is it skill, social connection or many other factors.

I would believe one of the most notorious examples of organized crime would be La Cosa Nostra or the Mafia. La Costra Nosa translated into english means “this thing of ours”. Often involving sicilian or italian members these organized crime rings have been around for a very long time and are very well organized with their own rules, structure and hierarchy within.

There are various models that came make up the structure of the organization and it wildly varies. It can be dependent on the type of organization whether it is strictly only peers or friends or nationality based and many other factors. There are always different types within the structures as each hierarchy is different.

Once you have finished reading about this topic and reviewing the background materials, please write a 2- to 3-page paper (either in essay format or Q & A format) addressing the following questions:

1. How should Donald Rubendall approach the situation? Is it worth hiring Ms. Gibson and implementing a new “controversial” policy at the company? Justify your response.
2. What if 10% of the employees do not support a pet-friendly workplace? Would you still consider the policy? Justify why.
3. What should the policy be for a pet-friendly workplace? Where should the administration draw the line (e.g., should snakes be allowed)? Create a memo outlining the policy in detail so there is no confusion.
4. As a future Manager, what is the best way to gauge how your employees feel about a pet-friendly policy (e.g., large meeting, anonymous survey, or one-on-one meetings)? Justify your response.
5. If the CEO opposes the new policy but is willing to hear some “options”, what would be some plausible compromises?

• Critical Thinking: Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?
• Business Writing: Is the essay logical, well organized and well written? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?
• Effective Use of Information: Does the submission demonstrate that the student has read, understood, and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality sources? Do additional sources used provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?
• Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Shortly after Hurricane Katrina damaged the New Orleans and surrounding areas, news reports of groups of looters were announced. Oftentimes, when under the influence of a crowd, individuals will display aggressive or unlawful behavior that they would not otherwise participate in. This phenomenon is referred to as deindividuation.

Research and discuss the following:

• Identify and describe a historical event in which the deindividuation phenomenon occurred.
• Explain the process of deindividuation (e.g., how it works, what changes happen within the individual to allow for unusual behavior).
