MAT243 Summary Report and Python Script

Short Summary Paper along with a working Python Script. Finished Python Script attached along with summary report template. Rubric posted below:

Competency

In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:

  • Apply statistical techniques to address research problems

Scenario

You are a data analyst for a basketball team. You have found a large set of historical data, and are working to analyze and find patterns in the data set. The coach of the team and your management have requested that you use descriptive statistics and data visualization techniques to study distributions of key variables associated with the performance of different teams. Data-driven analytics will help the management make decisions to further improve your team’s performance. You will use the Python programming language to perform your statistical analysis. You will also need to present a report of your findings to the team’s management. Since the managers are not data analysts, you will need to interpret your findings and describe their practical implications. The managers will use your report to find areas where the team can improve its performance.

Note: This data set has been “cleaned” for the purposes of this assignment.

Terrorism and Gang activity, law homework help

A recent event has caused uproar in demands for law enforcement to be attentive to activities that could lead to terrorism or gang activity. Race has been a source of controversy because of the stereotypes and labels put on individuals from certain races and religious backgrounds.

Opinions about issues in society are often the catalyst for the foundations of social change. The combined opinions of all individuals determine society’s position on an issue. Because criminal justice professionals have a first-hand view of the individuals who will be affected by the change, it is particularly crucial that they develop and advocate a position on an issue.

Using the library, Internet, or any other available material for adequate, accurate, and relevant support, address your position on the controversial issue. Propose 2 strategies for dealing with law enforcement subculture and racial profiling. One strategy is to be from an ethical perspective and the other should be in terms of keeping societal opinion from making significant changes in the functioning of systems and society as a whole.

My stance is that a general criteria should be utilized where race doesn’t come into play.  The charactersitics of those that are gang related and terrorists should be used.

SUBJECT – Research methods in human services

Assignment 2 (Due week 4): Observation Report
Since you will be observing in public places, you do NOT need to obtain permission from those
individuals you will observe. You should be as “natural” as possible. You do not want to draw
attention to yourself. Remember that people tend to behave differently if they know they are
being observed. They might also perceive you as an intruder. Do not use cell phone. Contact
with anyone will influence your observation and will change the nature of your research. Follow
the guidelines for protection of human subjects that you learned in CITI. The observation should
last between 45 minutes to one hour.
1. Prepare for the field:
• Read Babbie’s guidelines for recording field observations (Chapter 10)
• Select a public setting (public assistance office, hospital emergency room, employment
office, social security office or other public setting where people gather and interact.
EXCLUDE settings in your neighborhood and settings with which you, a close friend, or
family member has or had a relationship.)
• Find out how to gain access to the setting. Most government and social welfare agencies
require that you check in with “security” to gain access to a building and/or office. Some
settings require a picture ID.
• Review the guidelines for protection of human subjects before completing the
observation.
2. Conduct and record the observation:
• Date and Time: Record date, time, and duration of the observation
• Describe the setting:
o Describe the setting and your reasons for choosing it for your observation
o Discuss any problems you experienced in gaining access to the site
• Record your observations:
o Observe and record. Take scant notes while you observe.
o Expand on your notes as soon as possible after the observation.
o Be explicit and clear in your description of the behaviors and interactions you
observed.
3. Identity inferences and reflect
• Read your field observation report.
• Underline any inferences (what you think really happened and what you think you heard).
• Reflect on your personal thoughts and feelings about one of the inferences you
underlined.
4. Evaluation: Summarize what you learned from this assignment.

The demand for organ transplant Essays, writing homework help

Question 1

The following argument has been numbered. To indicate your knowledge of the important features of correct argumentation, use the numbers assigned to draw an arrow diagram that accurately reflects the flow of the argument.

(20 marks)

(1) The demand for organ transplant has grown steeply over time and across the globe. However, (2) growth in the supply of donated organs has been modest, at best; this suggests that (3) current policies that encourage organ donation by appealing to the altruistic instincts of individuals is failing. Thus, as a result of the growth in demand, the ineffectiveness of the current regime, and the fact that (4) nothing can be done to reduce the demand, (5) it is imperative that we consider alternative approaches to increasing organ supply. Since (6) history suggests that the problem of shortages in scarce goods is best solved by creating a free market in those goods, it follows that (7) the purchase and sale of organs should be legalised.

Question 2

Consider the following argument:

“North Korea can be persuaded to roll back its nuclear programme only if America stops conducting military exercises with South Korea. But, if the Americans’ fear of China remains strong, then America will not stop these exercises. Further, if North Korea can’t be persuaded to compromise on its nuclear programme, then there will either be continued instability in the Far East or a rebellion might overthrow the regime in North Korea. But, there is good reason to believe that the Americans’ fear of China will not abate in the near future. In addition, it is highly unlikely that a rebellion will happen in North Korea. So, we are bound to witness continued instability in the Far East.”

In the context of this argument, you are required to do the following: (a) Assign letters of the alphabet to each simple statement in the argument;

(b) Then, using the letters assigned, outline the argument in recognisable deductive forms identifying clearly its premises, the conclusion and any intermediate conclusion that can be validly inferred; and

(c) Evaluate whether the argument is valid.

(250 words max)

Question 3

Read the passage “Equal Pay and Unequal Income in Tennis.”

http://www.sportdw.com/2016/04/equal-pay-economics…

and answer the following questions.

(50 marks)

(a) In your own words, identify what the author’s conclusion is, and identify his reasons for concluding as he does. [Remember that the conclusion need not be explicitly stated in the passage. To answer this part correctly, you must be able to list the differences between statements and non-statements to distinguish between the relevant and nonrelevant parts of the argument.] (100 words max)

(b) Demonstrate and explain the strong and weak points of the author’s argument. (150 words max)

(c) This part of the question requires you to do the following in a single response. State whether you agree or disagree with the author’s conclusion. Depending on what you choose, write an argument of your own defending or attacking the author’s conclusion. [Regardless of what you choose, your argument must handle both the strong and weak points of the argument identified in (b) above (for example, if you decide to support the author’s conclusion, you must make the strong points of the author’s argument stronger and defend the weak points). You will receive more credit if you come up with additional reasons (those not in the passage) in support of your conclusion.]
