Developing a Training Lesson Plan

Overview

This assignment is a component of your course project to create an employee training and development program for a selected topic. In prior units, you selected a general training topic, developed specific learning objectives, and recommended a training method for your program. You will now develop an outline for this program, in the form of a lesson plan.

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies:

• Demonstrate effective training program design, development, and implementation.
• Assess the impact of technology on an organization’s training strategy.

A lesson plan is essentially an outline of the training program. It should include time for active practice, so that trainees can practice what they are learning. A lesson plan should also incorporate time for feedback, so that instructors can inform the trainees on how well they performed. It will often also include details such as the following:

• Descriptions of each learning activity (such as, “Watch video on Excel”).
• The names of trainers (if there are multiple trainers).
• Methods of training.
• Descriptions of materials needed (such as a video or a practice document to be distributed).
• Time spent on each learning activity (for example, “Video = 20 minutes”).
• Learning objectives for each activity (if appropriate).
• Learning points for each activity.

Table 8-2, “Components of Instructional Strategy,” from page 280 in your Blanchard and Thacker Effective Training text, presents a sample lesson plan.

Assignment Instructions

In the Unit 5 project study, you wrote a summary in which you recommended a training method for each of the learning objectives that you have identified for your training program. Based on your choices for each learning objective, you determined what training method you will use for the training program overall.

For this assignment, develop your Unit 5 summary into a lesson plan for your proposed training program. Use Table 8-2, “Components of Instructional Strategy” from your text as a guide for developing the lesson plan. Include the following in your lesson plan:

• Develop a timeline for your training program.
• List each learning objective.
• Identify the training method you recommend for each objective.
• Identify your training activities and link them to the learning objectives.
• Describe the method of training you selected for your training topic overall.
• Describe how practice and feedback are incorporated in your lesson plan to measure the transfer of learning.

Write a rationale for your lesson plan, including the following:

• Describe the two potential training methods you considered for each of your learning objectives.
• Explain why you chose these training methods and analyze the pros and cons of each method.
• Articulate the effectiveness of each training method on a trainee’s motivation to learn.
• Explain why you recommend the training method you chose for your training program overall.

Assignment Requirements

• Written communication: Write in a professional style with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.
• Resources: Include at least 1 peer-reviewed resource that is not from ATD or SHRM.
• APA formatting: Use APA (6th edition) style and formatting to present your references and citations.
• Length of paper: 8–10 typed, double-spaced pages.
• Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12-point.

Choose one major economic act enforced against the colonies by the British Crown prior to war, and cover the following:

 Describe the role, reason, and impact of the act on the colonies.

 Identify the arguments for/against the act by persons in the colonies.

 Identify major actions by the colonies in reaction to your selected act.

 How did this act increase or decrease fears of an overbearing central government?

 What was the nature of the colonial government under crown authority?

 Answer and defend your perspective on the following: “Was this particular act an inevitable catalyst for the eventual war?”

Your presentation should meet the following requirements:

 must have a minimum of 12 slides, not including title or reference slides;

 must have a maximum six pictures total—focus needs to be on content;

 must include a title page identifying your chosen act;

and

 must include citations throughout, and a reference page at the end identifying any sources used per 6th edition APA format.

Assignment
In this assignment you are to select and make a business recommendation for one of the business legal issues listed in table 1.0. You
will need to conduct the necessary legal research to support your recommendation. You are to (1) clearly identify the legal issue, (2)
identify any business risk associated with the issue, (3) conduct the necessary research to support your recommendation using high
quality sources and (4) Provide a recommendation that demonstrates critical thinking through a careful analysis of the problem. Your
paper should be 3 – 4 pages in length, double spaced. The report must include legal citations in support of your recommendation and
conclusions. Your effort on this assignment will be evaluated using the attached scoring rubric. The due date is available on the course
website. I will be checking your citations.
A General Research Strategy
There is no one right way to conduct legal research, however the following general search strategy is considered a practical approach:
Step 1: Frame the issue (try to figure out what the case is about/what legal issue or issues need to be researched.
Step 2: Brainstorm search terms (think up synonyms and related terms – e.g. negligence, liability, duty of care, etc.)
Step 3: Determine the jurisdiction.
Step 4: Decide which format to use (print or electronic – using the internet or print library.)
Step 5: Locate, read and update secondary sources (legal encyclopedias, restatements of the law, American Law Reports, legal
periodicals, books,)
Step 6: Locate, read and update primary authority (cases, statutes, and regulation.)
Step 7: Lookup rules of procedure, ethics, non-legal and other materials if needed.
Step 8: repeat the above steps as needed, depending on your search results.

FAQ: What is the difference between a primary legal source and a secondary legal source?
In the legal field, source classification is important because the persuasiveness of a source usually depends upon its history. Primary sources may
include cases, constitutions, statutes, administrative regulations, and other sources of binding legal authority, while secondary legal sources may
include books, articles, and encyclopedias. Legal writers usually prefer to cite primary sources because only primary sources are authoritative and
precedential, while secondary sources are only persuasive at best.
