The article I choose to write about is the army decision to deny the Dakota pipeline permit. “The 1,885 km Dakota Access Pipeline, owned by Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners LP, had been complete except for a segment planned to run under Lake Oahe, a reservoir formed by a dam on the Missouri River”(ALJ 2016) “Instead, the Corps will be undertaking an environmental impact statement to look at possible alternate routes,” Archambault said. “We wholeheartedly support the decision of the administration and commend with the utmost gratitude the courage it took on the part of President Obama, the Army Corps, the Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior to take steps to correct the course of history and do the right thing.”(NYP 2016) The New York Post article gave recognition and praised the administrations that made this possible. The Aljazeera article, on the other hand, gave a brief description of the account as to what happened. The issue with the pipeline is how it would contaminate the water supply and damage sacred tribal lands with disregards to the citizen that live there on a daily basis. However, currently, Other options are now being examined.

L.s.s illustration essay

Illustration Essay Draft

Write a 750-1000 word essay about a topic in which you argue for the existence of a particular phenomenon by stating a generalization about the topic. Then you will support that generalization (in the form of a thesis statement) by choosing to write a single-example illustration essay or a multiple-example illustration essay (see Unit V, Lesson 2). The essay should be written in the style and form described within Unit V.

Purpose: Throughout Unit V, we have discussed the conventions of the illustration essay. The purpose of this assignment is to measure your mastery of those conventions by putting your knowledge to practice. In a larger context, the purpose of writing an illustration essay is to convey an idea to the reader by providing illustrations (examples) that will solidify the existence of a topic.

Process: For the illustration essay, you will complete the following steps:

  1. Choose a topic: See the methods for developing a topic and the suggested list of topics in Unit V, Lesson 3.
  2. Decide if you want to write a single-example or multiple-example essay: See Unit V, Lesson 2, for more instruction on the differences between single-example and multiple-example essays.
  3. Collect illustrations: See Unit V, Lesson 1, for more information about different kinds of illustrations. See Unit V, Lesson 4, for more information about how to gather illustrations.
  4. Craft your thesis statement: See Unit V, Lesson 5, for more information on how to write a thesis. Note that you want to craft your thesis according to whether you choose to write a single-example or a multiple-example essay.
  5. Draft the essay: For each section of the essay, see the following: Unit V, Lesson 6, for the introduction; Unit V, Lesson 7, for the body paragraphs; and Unit V, Lesson 8, for the conclusion.

Stylistic details: All essays must meet the following requirements:

  • 750-1000 words.
  • Write in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font.
  • Include one-inch margins on all sides.
  • Use double spacing (top-to-bottom every page, to include above and below titles and centered words).
  • Include an APA title page (for all essays) and reference list that includes all of the sources used in the essay.
  • Include a header.
  • Include page numbers (upper-right corner only).
  • Adhere to APA convention and documentation style (See the CSU citation guide for assistance.).
  • At least one source is required. All sources used must be cited.

EVALUATION Essay

An evaluation asserts a judgment about a person, place, idea, object, or service. Consider the magazine Consumer Reports which consists largely of “objective” evaluative arguments. Consider local news and entertainment magazines which often offer “best of” issues or articles touting readers’ or critics’ favorites: the best place to go on a first date, best movie theatre, best bookstore, best coffee house, best news anchor, best ice cream, best actor, best nail salon, or even, “sexiest man alive”. For the subject of an evaluative argument, select a product or service to develop your own “best of” essay. On which products or services do you consider yourself an authority? On which have you developed an opinion that can be supported by evidence?

First, discover the qualifying reason to bring these three or four product or service brands together: are they the top-grossing? in the same neighborhood? most popular for a particular demographic? Make sure that you are evaluating like things: Ice cream and frozen yogurt are not the same thing. Frozen pizza and freshly-baked pizza from a restaurant are not the same. Yoga and cross training are not the same sport. Denny’s and Benihana’s are not parallel restaurants. If you operate on this wide a scale of subjects, the evaluation will be obvious and generalized.

You will need to determine the criteria that will support your evaluation. First, discover the specific criteria by which you can measure your “best” choice. Seek to make use of both quantitative and qualitative evidence to examine how those subjects meet or fall short of the stated criteria. Compare/contrast one brand against others in that same category (for example, one brand of pizza against another: Dominos, Little Caesar’s, Pizza Hut in a point-by-point format (which means weaving the brands/services together by one piece of criteria at a time rather than discussing each brand/service ina separate block.) . Be specific in weighing each against the same criteria (“The Domino’s pizza crust chewed like cardboard, was topped with a sauce bitter from too much oregano and was meager in the amount of cheese, in contrast to the Pizza Hut pizza that. . .) to justify your “best choice” claim. Also consider whether your readers will accept your criteria or whether you will need to defend those chosen criteria also. Do you have enough criteria? Will your readers understand and agree with your criteria in order to consider your choice a well-informed one? Are you employing the same criteria for each product (density of crust must be compared/contrasted to density of crust).

In your introduction, establish the subject of your evaluation along with your ethos. What credentials do you bring to your subject to make your evaluation credible? The thesis in your introduction should establish your specific evaluative claim, products under examination, and suggest by which criteria you have made your judgment

HISD 201 Understanding Styles and Periods

For Part 1 you first must read the file “READING” to be able to answer the question.

Part 1: The Context (300 words aprox complete in class and uploaded)

The purpose for writing a critique is to evaluate somebody’s work or ideas (a book, an essay, a movie, a painting…) in order to increase the reader’s understanding of it. Critical analysis is subjective writing because it expresses the writer’s opinion or evaluation of a text. Analysis means to break down and study the parts. Writing a critical paper requires two steps: critical reading and critical writing.

  1. Students are asked to individually read the provided reading. You are required to highlight and make notes/questions on the reading to help you later.
  2. To analyze and understanding its main points. You are required to identify the author and date of the text.
  3. Analyze the main ideas the author has written about.
  4. Consult a dictionary or other source to understand anything not familiar to you.
  5. Make an outline of the work or write a description of it – in your own words.
  6. Write a summary of the text covering the below questions (300 Words) -How is Modernism or Modern Architecture defined?
Why was it important for the Modernist to have unified architectural
style representing the future and how does Art Nouveau fit into this statement? Why is it important to us to look at Modernism in the 21st Century?

For other parts it all depends on research:

Part 2: The Architect

Walter Gropius

The aim is to develop your understanding of modern architecture by doing an in-depth study of one of the architects and their theoretical approach. Through your study, you will gain a deeper understanding of modern architecture in general and of the specific pioneers. The assignment also focuses on specific cases designed by the pioneers looking at identifying the modernist architecture characteristics.

Chapter 1 – Assignment.

Complete the Learning Exercise 1.14 – How Good Are Your Decision Making Skills? survey (located in Chapter 1 of the textbook).

Instructions:

  1. Answer each statement as honest as possible. Once you have completed the survey, grade your responses.
    • 0 = Not at all
    • 1 = Rarely
    • 2 = Sometimes
    • 3= Often
    • 4= Very Often
  2. Then, add up your statement responses – total points for each of the six elements.
    1. Establishing a Positive Decision-Making Environment (Statements 3, 7, 13, and 16) Total 16 points
    2. Generating Potential Solutions (Statements 4, 8, and 11) Total 12 points
    3. Evaluating Alternatives (Statement 1, 6, and 15) Total 12 points
    4. Deciding (Statements 5, 10, and 17) Total 12 points
    5. Checking the Decision (Statements 2 and 9) Total 8 points
    6. Communicating and Implementing (Statements 12, 14, and 18) Total 12 points
  3. Then, rate the degree of positiveness for each of the six elements.
    • Example: My score for the first element (Establishing a Positive Decision-Making Environment) Total 16 points is:
      1. Statement #3 – I answered Rarely = 1 point
      2. Statement #7 – I answered Sometimes = 2 points
      3. Statement #13 – I answered Sometimes = 2 points
      4. Statement #16 – I answered Very Often = 4 points
      5. Total points 9 out of 16
  4. Now, evaluate each element.
    • For the example above, you might summarize that you are a moderate when it comes to establishing a positive decision-making environment. I feel that this is inaccurate, because I always establish a positive decision-making environment. The reason I say this is because everyone at work tells me that it always feels positive when I am in charge. (This is just an example)

research argument , English homework help

For this assignment, you will write a proposal or a call to action. This argument will urge the reader to do something to fix the prison-related problem you researched in Essay II. You may use your research paper as a basis for your argument. You should use sources in your argument, but you probably will use no more than 5-7 sources for this assignment: Your argument will be more agile and muscular than your research essay — paraphrase and summarize sources when necessary and quote only the parts of your source that are most essential.

Your paper should be about 750-1000 words or around 3 pages. You will use a Works Cited page and intext citations.
