week discussion

In Chapters 26 and 27, we are discussing the case studies of Bim Consultants and Nerds Galore companies. One of the risks that an enterprise needs to address is employee satisfaction. High turnover of employees underlines a problem at the workplace, which can affect customer satisfaction and pose a threat to the business. The new HR VP at Nerds Galore has decided to address the high turnover issue at the company through a series of steps including outsourcing. If you are to address high turnover risk at your organization, what steps would you take? How does this may impact the organizational culture and employee morale?

To complete this assignment, you must do the following:

A) Create a new thread. As indicated above, assume that you have been asked to address high turnover problem at your company (or at Nerds Galore Inc), what steps would you take? How does this may impact the organizational culture and employee morale?

ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS ABOVE IN YOUR THREAD

B) Select AT LEAST 2 other students’ threads and post substantive comments on those threads, evaluating the pros and cons of that student’s recommendations. Your comments should extend the conversation started with the thread.

ALL original posts and comments must be substantive. (I’m looking for about a paragraph – not just “I agree.”)

NOTE: These discussions should be informal discussions, NOT research papers. If you MUST directly quote a resource, then cite it properly. However, I would much rather simply read your words.

composition2 final draft

Write your final draft cause-and-effect essay that makes a convincing argument for the cause of a particular event.

Use the guidelines shown in Chapters 10 to develop your ideas and shape your essay.

The cause-and-effect essay is a research paper, not a personal essay. Include your thoughts and ideas in the essay, but by writing only in the objective, academic third person. Do not use first person (I, me, my, us, we) or second person (any form of “you”).

You should include 2-3 outside resources in your assignment.

The submission should include:

  • An APA formatted title page
  • APA citations (both within the paper and on the references page)
  • Three to four pages of written work (not counting the title or references pages)
  • An APA formatted references page

Business 311: Expanding on the ideas of my rough draft

I need someone to expand on or add to the ideas in my rough draft that I will attach to the bottom of this post. Below are the directions for the paper:

You are the manager of Acme Fireworks, a fireworks retailer who sells fireworks, puts on ground display fireworks, and large aerial display fireworks. The company started in the owner’s garage two years ago and now has 15 employees that you manage. The company started as a sole proprietorship, and the owner has never changed the entity. The owner has informed you that the company has received inquiries from several large businesses wondering if the company could create several fireworks displays on a regular basis. The owner told the inquirers that the company could fill such display orders, and a price per display was agreed upon. It was discussed that most of the cost for a fireworks display is for skilled labor, insurance, and the actual service of setting off the fireworks. No other details were discussed. The owner is anticipating that new employees will need to be hired, but he is worried that if the large orders for fireworks displays do not continue, the company will not have the funds to pay the new employees. The owner is now considering changing the business entity, but he does not know what entity to form or how to form it.

The owner has asked you to do the following:

  • Determine if the contracts with the businesses will be governed by common law or the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), and explain why.
  • Analyze whether the owner formed a contract with the businesses, and apply the five essential elements of an enforceable contract.
  • Explain the potential personal liability to Acme Fireworks if a spectator is injured by a stray firework from a fireworks display.
  • Discuss the different employment types and relationships relevant to agency law, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each type specific to Acme Fireworks.
  • Explain why Acme Fireworks should not operate as a sole proprietorship. Recommend a new business entity, and provide rationale to support your recommendation.

For each task, be sure to analyze the relevant law, apply the facts to the law, and make a conclusion.

Writing the Final Paper

Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (not including the title and reference pages), and formatted according to APA style.

  1. Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.
  2. Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought. That is, describe what your response is to the content, either positive or negative, and defend your position. If multiple options, alternatives, and/or positions are present and are being rejected, you must also defend the reasons for rejecting an option.
  3. Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.
  4. Must include at least five scholarly sources.
  5. Must document all sources in APA style.
  6. Must include a separate references page, formatted according to APA style.

Assignment 2 Submission

Assignment 2: Economic Approaches in the Age of Industrialization (1870-1940)

Due Week 6 and worth 120 points

In Assignment 2, we ask you to choose one of two topic choices listed below on the subject of economic change and innovation in the period of the late 1800s and early 1900s, then use the Writing Guide provided in Blackboard to write a paper on the subject. One topic is on the individual level of pioneering entrepreneurs of the period, who developed distinctive strategies for the production and marketing of very different parts types of products. The other topic is on the macro level, exploring successful and unsuccessful government attempts to shape and regulate the changing industrial economy of the period.

As you prepare and brainstorm your paper, first read and review what our Schultz textbook covers on the subject. Then, consider the other sources listed with each topic below. It is important that you review these sources carefully because you must use a minimum of three sources (from the list below) to write your paper.

Be sure to review the other help (documents or video) provided by your instructor. For information on the SWS format, see the “Strayer Writing Standards” tab on the course menu.

TOPIC CHOICE ONE: Innovative Entrepreneurs – Walker and Ford

Here you will focus on the business approaches of Madame C. J. Walker and Henry Ford. Both developed innovative and successful approaches in a time of rapid economic change. You will compare them in the way they started their respective businesses and the key innovative features that made each successful. One might find virtues, problems, and successes associated with both. You might see elements of each in strategies of later leaders and related issues even today.

Sources: Schultz, p. 396-7 (only Ford is discussed in our textbook). For Madam C. J. Walker (1867-1919), see http://www.madamcjwalker.com/bios/madam-c-j-walker/; and https://www.pbs.org/wnet/african-americans-many-rivers-to-cross/history/100-amazing-facts/madam-walker-the-first-black-american-woman-to-be-a-self-made-millionaire/. For Henry Ford, see https://www.history.com/topics/inventions/henry-ford.

TOPIC CHOICE TWO: Government Economic Policies – Hits and Misses

Here you will choose two historical examples from the following list: Prohibition; Hawley-Smoot Tariff; Sherman Antitrust Act; Pure Food and Drug Act; Federal Trade Commission; Civilian Conservation Corps; Agricultural Adjustment Act; the Wagner Act, and the Social Security Act. These are examples of government economic intervention or economic policy in the long period from 1870 to 1940. These might be thought of as burdensome government interference or as needed government regulation, depending on the example and one’s thinking on those things. For your paper, you will explore and describe each of your two examples, its historical context, and the reasons it arose. One might find virtues, problems and successes associated with both. You might see elements of each in examples in our current economy today.

Sources: Schultz, p. 362-4, 367, 401-2, 417, 425-9, 432. Besides the textbook, use any two of these sources that you think relevant to your paper: http://college.cengage.com/history/wadsworth_9781133309888/unprotected/ps/impact_factory.htm

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Use the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other formats like APA. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Be typed, double spaced between lines, using Times New Roman font, Calibri, Arial, or Courier (size 10, 11, or 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and sources must follow SWS format. You must have a Sources list at the end; each source listed must also be cited in the body of the paper with an in-text citation.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the Sources page are not included in the required assignment page length.
  • The body of the paper should be five paragraphs and a total of 500-to-800 words in length. The 500 minimum is firm; you really have not adequately developed the paper if less than that. The 800 maximum is a loose guideline. The body of the paper is to be double-spaced. Typically, if you follow these instructions, the body of your paper will be 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 pages in length; add a page for your title page and another for your sources list and that then gets to 4-1/2-to 5-1/2. But the length requirement is evaluated by word count.

The paper must be submitted (uploaded and attached) in the course shell provided online.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Discuss events after 1865 in terms of social and economic conditions that caused corresponding changes in the attitudes of the people and policies of the government.

Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer

Advanced registered nurses work in highly collaborative environments and must collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in order to provide excellent patient care. Besides knowing the role and scope of one’s own practice, it is essential to understand the role and scope of other nurse specialties to ensure effective collaboration among nurses, the organization, and other professionals with whom advanced registered nurses regularly interact.

Use the “Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer Template” to differentiate how advanced registered nurse roles relate to and collaborate with different areas of nursing practice. Compare your future role with one of the following: nurse educator; nurse leader; family nurse practitioner; acute care nurse practitioner; graduate nurse with an emphasis/specialty in public health, health care administration, business, or informatics; clinical nurse specialist; doctor of nursing practice. Indicate in the appropriate columns on the template which roles you are comparing.

Make sure to compare the following areas of practice in your graphic organizer:

  1. Ethics
  2. Education
  3. Leadership
  4. Public Health
  5. Health Care Administration
  6. Informatics
  7. Business/Finance
  8. Specialty (e.g., Family, Acute Care)

Include any regulatory bodies or certification agencies that provide guidance or parameters on how these roles incorporate concepts into practice.

You are required to cite three to five sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are not required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

Week 1 Assignment – Logo Redesign Part 1

THIS IS NOT A WRITING ASSIGNMENT YOU WILL BE WORKING IN ADOBE!

Week 1 Assignment – Logo Redesign Part 1

Learning Objectives Covered

  1. Define the impact of color, type, and composition within a logo
  2. Identify and apply five techniques for logo redesign considerations

Background

DES242_Assignment1.jpg

In a logo, everything from color to type to composition serves to
tell the story of a company. Color often serves to underscore emotion.
Type embraces the form or spirit of the company. Composition endeavors
to reveal symbolically the underlying structure of a company.

A logo redesign process is a delicate balance, updating the visual
appearance yet still keeping its overall feel accessible and trustworthy
to its established audience. Because during a logo redesign, color,
type, and composition often will change, it is very important to define
the underlying character qualities that a logo must represent so that
those qualities can stay constant.

When redesigning a logo, the following five considerations should be taken into account:

Keep it Simple
Remember the logo must be
recognizable in a variety of sizes and contexts thus overly intricate
illustrations or color gradients should be avoided.

Don’t Mix Styles
A logo is the visual
representation of a company. Therefore, it must present a cohesive voice
and vision of what the company is all about. Mixing styles in font,
color, or imagery often result in a confused message to the consumer.

Don’t be Swayed by Showy Typefaces
Though purely
typographic, wordmark logos are often a very effective and flexible way
to show a company’s identity. It is important to remember that typefaces
themselves carry character traits and can unknowingly contribute to
logo perception. Though a typeface might be unique and unexpected, it is
always best to ruthlessly evaluate its readability and underlying
visual message to be sure it is in visual agreement with the overall
message.

Be Consistent
Often logos will need to work in a
variety of settings and in a variety of layouts. For example, a
primarily vertical logo must also have a horizontal variation.
Conversely, a primarily horizontal logo must also have a vertical
variation. As the designer, you must make sure that the message remains
consistent regardless of the logos orientation.

It Doesn’t Need an Obvious Connection
Though it
is tempting to use a visual illustration, icon or graphic to represent
the industry in which a company is located often the cleverest logos are
those that are highly abstracted and have a little literal tie to the
industry. When designing a logo consider how you can capture the spirit
of the company’s character.

Prompt

Project Overview
For the first two weeks of this
class, you will be engaged in a logo redesign project. This week you
will choose a client from the five selections found within this folder and begin the design process. In week two, you will finalize the logo and show it in use within a corporate identity structure.

Logo 1: Metropolitan Art Gallery

Week 1 Project
This week you will choose a client
from the list provided and create both rough sketches and black and
white computer drafts of the logo. If you have an existing logo you
would like to redesign for this assignment, you may use it with pre-approved permission from the instructor.

Assignment Instructions:

  1. First, choose one of the companies above. Each company has provided a
vector copy of the current logo and a one-page description of the
company’s goals and overall qualities. You can download both of these by
clicking on the name of the company.
  2. Next, conduct visual research for inspiration.
  3. Complete nine preliminary black and white sketches of possible logo
concepts keeping in mind company requests and overall character. You can
complete these sketches either by hand or on the computer. If you
complete the sketches by hand you will need to scan them or take a photo
    of them for assignment submission.
  4. Once you have completed your nine sketches, choose three of the most
promising directions and create a further refined black and white
version of each of these logos on the computer.

Submission Instructions:

  1. When you have completed all parts of the assignment, create a multi-page PDF that includes the following:
    1. Minimum of 9 sketches (in black and white) showing a wide range of exploration of the redesign process
    2. The three refined best logo directions from your sketches in black and white
    3. Include the original logo when presenting the three refined black and white logos
    4. List the company’s keywords as found in the company document
  2. Name your file: DES242_Assignment1_FirstLast.pdf and submit for grading

M01: Discussion (1)

A. Read “The Significance of the Nile River and the Pharaoh” (textbook page 16). How important was the development of agriculture to the formation of complex societies like ancient Egypt? What do the readings tell us about the ways in which civilizations are shaped by their natural environments? The Egyptians had a very different view of the gods and the afterlife than the peoples of Mesopotamia. Based on your reading of the text, why do you think that was and what role was played by the respective environments of each culture (hint: the nature of the Nile versus the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers).

B.. Read “The Assyrian Military Machine“. What fate awaited the inhabitants of a city like Jerusalem or Babylon who resisted Assyrian rule? Despite their dangers, why have people throughout history chosen to live in cities anyway? What other factors, besides military conquest, might have contributed to the decline of an ancient civilization?

file:///C:/Users/avip1/Downloads/The%20Assyrian%20Military%20Machine.pdf

M02: Discussion (2)

A. Read “The Origins of Kingship“. According to the Mahabharata, why did kingship become necessary? What differences and similarities do you see between this description of kingship and the portrayal of Egyptian kingship in “Hymn to the Pharaoh” from Module One? What, do you think, was the author’s purpose in telling the story?

B. Read “The Position of Women in Ancient India” (page 43). Compare the position of women in India with those in Mesopotamia and Egypt. What does the Law of Manu reveal about the relations and responsibilities of fathers towards their daughters and husbands toward their wives? Are there caste or class differences in the treatment of women in ancient India?

Heads of the colored people journal

  • write about “The Subject of Consumption.” A story from the book”Heads of the colored people”
  • I will not be providing the book
    • Journals are 1-2 pages double spaced.(This one will probably be only 1 since it is such a short section to read)
    • Please make sure you put your name and journal number at the top of your journal entry.
  • What should be in your journal? A journal entry should contain 4 items about each piece of literature you read in the textbook:
  1. A brief synopsis of what the section was about [think characters, conflict, resolution]
  2. Any lines or phrases that have particular significance [think important themes, climactic moments]
  3. A short explanation of what you liked or found most valuable about the piece
  4. Any questions you have about the piece.

Essay with in-text citations and Works Cited page pursuant to MLA format.

TAKE NOTE

More than 4 errors in the fundamentals of writing (grammar, punctuation, word usage, and mechanics) will result in 0 as a grade. I will mark the first 5 errors that I notice with the teardrop shape. You may RESUBMIT your essay as many times as you need to eliminate basic errors.

Submit

Online Sunday, March 29, 2020, @ 11:59 pm

Points

150 points

NOTE: A paper that merely concludes WP is more reliable than you have been lead to believe by teachers and other authorities will likely earn a “C” because that analysis is not a very insightful or original.

Wikipedia contribution

Your contribution should be at least a paragraph. (Of course, it can be longer.) If you want to contribute images, try to contribute at least two or three images. You can propose a new entry, but you are not required to do so.

In addition to fully describing the title of the entry and your contribution to that entry, please attach a screen shot or scan of your contribution as an appendix to the paper as evidence of your contribution. You also complete questions about your contribution before you start writing your paper.

Further explanation about the assignment

Your paper will likely attend to two major concepts: the first is a description of your experience and the second is an analysis of that experience to offer the reader insight into larger concepts (about Wikipedia, the Internet, information competence, knowledge creation, etc.). Your analysis of the experience is more difficult to write, but it is where you demonstrate your critical thinking skills and creativity. Thus, it should be more than one-half of your paper.

Caution: While this paper likely includes a discussion about the topic you selected, the paper is not primarily a discussion of that topic.

Description: You would describe what you did to contribute to Wikipedia. In this section, you may talk about the topic you selected, why you selected it, the ease or difficulty in finding a topic, the entry you wrote, the sources you relied upon for your entry, the contribution process, and any response you received from other Wikipedians, family or friends.

Analysis: You explain the significance or meaning of your experience in terms of some larger concept that is relevant to you and your reader. The larger concept could be Wikipedia itself. For example, do you view Wikipedia differently now that you have contributed to it? Maybe you feel your professors were right about telling you not to consult Wikipedia. Or maybe you feel they didn’t know enough about Wikipedia.

Other potential concepts to explore in this section are the following:

  • the significance of all content in Wikipedia being contributed to by volunteers
  • the reliability of online sources
  • writing in a neutral point of view
  • the creation of knowledge (who creates it and who does not create it, why are some topics more fully developed than others, what information is left out, etc.)
  • the dissemination of knowledge in a digital age
  • the significance of contributing to Wikipedia in sharing knowledge with others or giving back to your community
  • the significance of a school or film or person having an entry on Wikipedia
  • the meaning of whatever response you received to your entry
  • the gender disparity in Wikipedia editors

Your analysis cannot be written until you contribute to Wikipedia because you are analyzing your experience, and your experience provides the evidence for your analysis.

Another way to approach writing your analysis is to try to find something unique to discuss, something no one else in class would be likely to discuss. Everyone in class can do this because we come to this assignment with our unique experiences and knowledge and our individual methods of thinking, including processing information.

Information to help you use Wikipedia

1. Set up an account on Wikipedia.

2. In addition to its 5 Pillars, WP has many, many policy pages and guidelines to help write your entry. You may want to consult some of these policies so your work is done appropriately. What you will quickly learn is that each policy leads to more policies. (Note: Each of these policies references other resources, such as tutorials and related concepts, to help you better understand and apply these concepts.)

Wikipedia: Neutral point of view (or WP:NPOV)

Wikipedia: Verifiability

Wikipedia: Identifying reliable sources

Wikipedia: Do not include the full text of lengthy primary sources

Wikipedia: Manual of style

3. Write your entry in your own language. Avoid quoting long passages from the original source because Wikipedia now has a Turnitin-type program that automatically deletes word-for-word copied entries. Feel free to email me to review your contribution before you submit it to ensure the grammar, punctuation, etc. is accurate.

Purpose of this assignment

This assignment helps develop your information literacy (or information competence) because you are working with a significant resource of information (Wikipedia) that allows you to better analyze the usefulness of that resource and the general concepts of information literacy. This assignment also requires to you demonstrate (a) the proper mechanics of persuasive writing (PSLO 4.1), (b) the ability to organize materials into clear and coherent patterns appropriate to the audience and subject matter (PSLO 4.3), and (c) the ability to gather and synthesize information, analyze issues appropriately, and select and evaluate evidence to construct sound arguments (PSLO 4.4).
