Due 9/30 by 2200….   Select your topic and begin researching for the Program Development Paper. Your idea should be original, and for the final paper you will have to explain it in detail. (For this assignment, you do not have to address the financing of your program. Try to be somewhat realistic, but do not concern yourself with how it would be funded. This is your opportunity to design an ‘ideal’ program to improve quality of life and participation for people with disabilities. Some past topics have included employment programs, recreation programs, classes in high school or elementary schools for disability awareness, etc.. )

Select your topic and include a paragraph description of the program you plan to develop. Provide 2 sources that you plan to use (in APA format), with a brief summary of each article’s content. You will receive feedback on your topic selection, and can begin work on the project. Begin work on your reference page; you are required to use at least 4 sources outside of class texts, which must be journal/scholarly articles.

 

Due 10/10 by 2200 …. For the final research-based paper, you will identify a problem faced by people with disabilities that presents a barrier to their participation in society. You are urged to select a topic which is relevant to your work or personal interest to make this project a more meaningful learning experience. The goal of this paper is to synthesize all of the material we have covered in order to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of a diversity model approach to disability, the needs of specific populations, and practice approaches sensitive to disability culture.The paper will begin with a definition of the problem, including an historical perspective. You will need to think critically and design a macro- or meso-level solution or program, based in disability theory, to address the barrier and facilitate greater participation for persons with disabilities. You will outline the program in detail, including the philosophy, setting, and role of human service providers and people with disabilities.Your paper must be completed in APA format, and must reference four (4) or more scholarly/academic sources, such as peer-reviewed journal articles. You may use the course texts as references in addition to other research findings, but these do not count toward the four (4) outside sources required. The length requirement for the body of the paper is five (5) pages; this does not include the title, abstract or reference pages.

Media PaperInstructions This assignment enables you to move beyond traditional classroom discussion- and essay-writing to discuss media exposure in a paper of personal and social significance. While we are exposed to varying forms of media each day, this project focuses on one example of media that is of personal significant, impact, or curiosity. Creativity, experimentation, collaboration, and transgression are all central to the field of women’s studies and to feminist pedagogy. It is important to apply these learned skills when analyzing media.

Please do the following:Choose a specific form of media (Social Media, Film, Music, etc) you believe would prove useful in a discussion in a women’s studies course.Analyze this form of media by utilizing the material in your textbook and the course modules for support (use quotes!), make explicit connections between your chosen form of media and women’s studies. Gender Identity in Life-Span Development

Gender identity—identifying oneself as male or female—is a critical component of an individual’s life-span development. Misconceptions and stereotypes abound with regard to gender, and you may bring personal misconceptions and stereotypes to your work with clients.

 

As you read the resources this week, what concepts seem especially relevant to you as a social worker? Are you able to identify any personal misunderstandings about the formation of gender identity? What strategies might you use to apply your new understanding to social work practice?

In Unit II, we learned about the concept of globalization of culture. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the globalization and standardization of culture? Provide at least one specific example of the advantage and at least one specific example of the disadvantage of the globalization of culture. Would you prefer to live in a community in which everyone were the same (no difference in language, religion, sexuality, and so forth) or one in which such differences exist? Why?

The documents created at the inception of American democracy trace their lineage to the Magna Carta signed by King John of England in 1215. The Magna Carta was written by King John’s Barons to protect their rights and property from the King. They forced the King to affix his seal to the document under threat of civil war. The American colonists believed they were the inheritors of those rights from the King of England and as a result the Magna Carta was an inspiration for the American Revolution. Thomas Jefferson, in the Declaration of Independence, wrote about every man’s fundamental right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The framers of the United States Constitution sought to design a system of government that would help make the ideals of the Declaration of Independence a reality. Today, United States Supreme Court justices refer to the Constitution as “the supreme law of the land” for guidance as they attempt to adjudicate modern-day conflicts. Much of the influence and authority of the Supreme Court rests in the interpretation of the original concepts and principles of the Constitution.

To prepare for this Discussion:Review the Declaration of Independence in this week’s Learning Resources. Focus on the democratic principles outlined in the document.Review the transcript of the Constitution of the United States in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the relationship between the principles summarized in the Constitution and those detailed in the Declaration of Independence.Review the article “Magna Carta and Its American Legacy” in this week’s Learning Resources. Think about how the Magna Carta influenced concepts and principles in founding documents of democracy.Peruse the Supreme Court of the United States website and review arguments for current cases.Select a democratic concept or principle that is represented in the Declaration of Independence and/or the Constitution.Think about where and how your selection appears in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution, and how it might be used by a Supreme Court justice in a Supreme Court case. If you live outside the United States, how do you think this democratic principle might affect the court system in your country?
