Case Study Instructions

• Covers ONLY the following steps:
  • Step 1 : Job Analysis
  • Step 2 : Job Evaluation

(NOTE: This case will also be used in Lesson 8 and 9. Save the workbook for those lessons. Only respond to steps 1 & 2 which are Tasks A & B in the workbook.)

Task A – Create a complete job description for the BenefitsManager position using O*NET.

• Your description should follow the same format as the benchmark jobs found in Appendix A of the workbook.
• Name and Student ID number (only last four numbers) should be typed and appear at the top of the page.
• Page Topic: “Case Study #1 – Benefits Manager” should appear under the student name.
• No more than 1 (one) page MS Word doc.
• MS Word doc., typed in an Arial 10 point font, single spaced.

Task B – Also provide the following:

• Calculate the job evaluation points for:
  • Administrative Assistant,
  • Payroll Assistant,
  • Operational Analyst,
  • Benefits Manager
• Provide a rationale for assigning specific degrees to the various jobs.
• Use the provided form for assigning the “degrees” and providing the rationale.

Enhanced communication has allowed for the growth of “networks” of organizations. Networks are groups of individuals organized around a common cause. They are different from NGOs in that they do not always have a formal hierarchy or legal status. They may not have any centralization at all.

Some scholars have suggested that, in the future, citizens might identify with a network more than with their state/nationality. Do you think this is happening or likely to happen? To support your answer, mention at least three specific examples networks. They can be civil or uncivil. Be sure to read and reference the articles by Arquilla and Weimann for full credit. To avoid any confusion about the definition of “network,” please be sure to review the Lesson for the week.

Instructions: Your initial post should be at least 350 words. Please respond to more than 2 other students. Responses should be a minimum of 150 words and include direct questions, evidence from the literature, alternative points of view or additional insight. For more information, please review the forum discussion rubric attached below. This is the rubric that will be used for all of the forums in this class.

Select a Fortune 500 company in which you are interested.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you describe the importance of marketing research to your selected company’s management team.

Address the following in your paper:

• Define market research.
• If your selected company uses marketing research, identify the different types of marketing research it uses and describe the importance of that research to the company using the provided template.
• If your selected company does not currently use marketing research, describe the different types of marketing research that would be beneficial to the company.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.

Use In-text citations according to the references used.

Minimum of 2 peer reviewed references.

Use header, headlines for all questions asked above, introduction and conclusion.

Give a thorough explanation of how both disparate treatment and disparate/adverse impact cases
operate. What are they, how do you recognize them, how are they proven (what are the
necessary elements), and what defenses are available to each, describing how to prove such
defenses. 

2. Answer the following fact pattern: 

Linda was employed with Southern Telephone Company as a telephone operator for ten (10)
years. Bored with this job, she applied for an open position as a telephone repairman which paid
$10.00 per hour more than she was currently earning. This position required the employee to be
able to climb to the top of a telephone pole wearing a tool belt weighing approximately 15 to 20
lbs to make repairs. Southern Telephone Company refused to admit Linda into the training
program for the position claiming that she was incapable of performing the duties of the position
because she was female. Discuss this scenario from both Linda’s and Southern Telephone
Company’s point of view, including the basis for the relevant claims and defenses.
