Global Health discussion 5

please respond to the discussion and reply to the Peer discussion

Classroom chats provide an opportunity to respond to the videos, readings and presentations in the module. This is also a good place for you to share your personal experience as it relates to the course content. You should write at least a paragraph. While we will not be grading on grammar, spelling, APA etc. in this board, you are expected to write well and in your own words. Copy and pasted material will not be accepted. You will be expected to have a total of 2 classroom chat posts during a module. One of them should be initiated by you and one should be a response. We encourage you to question your classmates and push them to think of issues in depth and with complexity. We will be doing this too. With that said, make sure you post in a way that is respectful of others.

PEER DISCUSSION

After watching the two videos regarding China “China to have world’s most obese children” and Child nutrition in rural China: Free-lunch project ensures nutritious lunches”. I am not surprised all these can happen in China. For children from wealth family in big city, they are easily obese. In contrast, for children from rural area, they are growth restoration. All of them point one thing, people in China needs education about the nutrition and how to eat healthily. They should not eat fashionable food such as fast food from America; or eat fully not eat nutritionally. I am so glad there is free nutritional lunch for rural area children to be healthy. China is a very complicated country and the development at different areas is different between rural and big city. Based on the current economic situation, everyone should be able to eat healthy. However, what is the healthy food and how to eat healthy are still needed to be educated. Not snacks or fashionable food are healthy food. All media and government should put effort to educate people to eat healthy and be healthy. From my visiting to China last year, I feel China did have dramatically change about the healthy. I hope they will have better change in the future. Education is still the key.

Watch and answer

1) Watch the videos, then answer these in a 150 word paragraph. What are the acts of a crime? What is the mens rea? Why is concurrent of the two critical to whether a crime has been committed? (Make sure you watch the Actus Reus video before answering this question.)

2) Write a helpful response to the students paragraph, stating how you agree and why followed by your opinion on the topic. keep it positive! 80 words min

Actus rea is the criminal act. The criminal act meaning that an action must be done in order for there to have been a crime. Actus rea also refers to the notion of a guilty act along with the conduct of the accused. Actus rea includes that the criminal act must be voluntary with no forms of coercion. Mens rea on the other hand refers to the criminal intent, also known as the guilty mind. Concurrence is critical because both need to be present in the act of crime. As stated in our textbook, “Acts not generated by criminal intent do not constitute criminal conduct, and the intent to commit a crime, without action, does not constitute a crime” ( Hemmens 62). This leads to the statement in which criminal intent must push for the criminal act. Intent might refer to mental state of the person where as motive refers to the reason why an act was committed.

3) Watch the video first, then answer these in a 150 word paragraph. What is a justification defense? Give an example of a factual case where the justification defense might be argued on behalf of the suspect/defendant. You can find a real case or make up your own. But use an example to show your understanding of what a justification defense looks like.

Then define an excuse defense and give an example. How are “excuses” different from “justifications?”

4) Write a helpful response to the students paragraph, stating how you agree and why followed by your opinion on the topic. keep it positive! 80 words min

A justification defense is when “the defendant admits he or she is responsible for the act that occurred but claims under the circumstances, the act was not criminal” (Hemmens 65). An example of a case with an justification defense is Ethan Couch, A sixteen year old who killed 4 people in a drunk driving accident. Despite him claiming guilty, “Boyd sentenced Couch, described in testimony as a spoiled teen from a dysfunctional but wealthy family, to 10 years’ probation and intensive therapy”(Mitchell). He got this charge due to his excuse defense that he was to rich to know what he was doing is wrong. They even gave him being to rich to know what he is doing is wrong a name, it’s called ‘affluenza’. This may be one of the greatest justification defenses ever pulled off.

Assignment Instructions

Hairs and Fibers

Materials Needed:

Forceps or tweezers
Magnifying glass
White printing paper
Envelopes
A sterile sheet, plastic sheeting, or white butcher paper
A clean (freshly washed) shirt OR
A new dry-cleaned shirt OR
A brand new shirt removed from the packaging
A brightly lit area or a flash light

Instructions:

Wear your shirt for one full day. During the time, record your movements throughout the day and describe your locations, along with the people, animals, or environments you encounter. At the end of the day, remove the t-shirt and place into a new ziplock bag or a paper bag.

Next, thoroughly clean a counter or desk surface and place the sterile sheet, plastic sheeting, or white butcher paper on it. Carefully remove your shirt and place it flat on top of the sheet, sheeting, or paper. Take one photograph of your shirt.

Using the forceps or tweezers, carefully remove each hair or fiber you observe and place onto a clean white piece of printing paper or butcher paper. Turn the shirt over upon completion, take another photograph, and repeat the process. Pay careful attention around the collar area of the shirt.

Once you have collected all observable hairs and fibers, photograph the evidence on the paper or butcher paper. Take several photographs including some close-up photographs.

Upon collection of all hair and fiber evidence, count the number of individual specimens you collected. Determine (to the best of your ability) how many hair and how many fiber specimens you collected.

You are then required to write an essay detailing your experiences including the type of shirt worn (i.e. cotton, rayon, nylon, etc.), the locations you wore the shirt, and your experiences with the evidence collection process. You also need to discuss the importance of hair and fiber evidence and what kind of information it can reveal to investigators. At the end of your document, include the photographs of your hair and fiber evidence.

Your essay should be 2-3 pages in length, written in APA 6th edition format and include at least two references. Please refer to the grading rubric for further details.

Submit your document as an word attachment. Tip: It is recommended to incorporate your photographs into a Word document along with your essay and submit one (1) attachment for grading.

Criminal justice, law homework help

Most crimes have specific and identifiable victims but that some, such as the crimes against public decency and morality are considered victimless crimes. Some of these crimes include prostitution, drug use, gambling, and crimes involving pornography and obscenity fall into this category. Whether these are truly “victimless” crimes is open to debate and some claim that such offenses are an attempt to legislate morality.

In your main post, discuss the following:

  • Analyze whether you believe any crimes are truly victimless, supporting your position with at least one example.
  • Evaluate how many of these offenses against morality are likely to change in the foreseeable future due to a shift toward a more liberal or conservative approach to crime.

  • Explain whether, if a crime is considered to be victimless, that would impact how you would carry out your duties as a law enforcement officer witnessing the commission of such a crime.

Culture and representation on television

We can all agree that mass media have some effects on culture, from trends and language to representations of and attitudes about other people. Cultural studies research involves investigating and understanding daily experience, especially on issues of race, gender, class, and sexuality, as well as unequal arrangements of power and status in contemporary society. Taking the cultural studies theoretical perspective of communication as culture(communication is a ritual or symbolic process, whereby reality is produced, maintained, repaired, and transformed) you will write a textual analysis of one sitcom or drama on television, analyzing the cultural narratives of three episodes. Structure the paper to address representation/casting, narrative/storytelling, and audience effects and reactions.

Watch three consecutive episodes of one of the following modern TV shows. Qualifying shows are comedies or dramas, and not allowed are studio sitcoms, animation, or sci-fi/fantasyThese are available on Hulu, Netflix, or their home network’s website:

  • Modern Family
  • Jane the Virgin
  • Fresh Off the Boat
  • Scandal
  • Black-ish
  • Grown-ish
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Atlanta

Consider the following questions and categories to help you take notes and structure your paper. You are not required to answer every question in your paper. Answering one or two from each section will be sufficient:

Representation/casting:

  • What ethnic groups, genders, and sexualities are represented on the show? Why do you think particular casting decisions were made for each type of character?
  • Regarding characters, what stereotypes do you find about women, men, gender nonconformity, sexual orientation, people of color, people of age (such as elders), disabled people, or people from different socio-economic classes?

Narrative/storytelling:

  • Does the narrative acknowledge and/or subvert any stereotypes or tropes? How? Is it obvious or more subtextual?
  • How do the stories told on the show reinforce cultural ideology and hegemony? (i.e., “dominant culture” or “mainstream culture” or even what we call “normal”)
  • How are cultural power relationships revealed through interactions between characters? Pay attention to verbal and nonverbal interactions.

Audience effects:

  • For this part, interpret the patterns from your own critical perspective, but also use outside sources to help support your points (see list below).
  • In what ways might patterns of representation and narrative influence public discourse (agenda-setting effects), including traditional media and social media?
  • How do you think the patterns of representation and narrative affect audience perceptions of reality (cultivation effects)? Do they reinforce or challenge stereotypes?

Process (this is a more “meta” application of the 5-step Critical Process – not the structure of the paper):

  1. Take detailed notes about representation and narrative for each of the three episodes. This activity is your “describe” step of the 5-step process. Along with your paper, submit (typed) notes you made as you watched the program.
  2. Analyze your notes to identify patterns and themes about representation, narrative, and audience effects.
  3. Think about and interpret the meanings of these patterns and themes. Why do you think producers made these decisions? Research other perspectives.
  4. Evaluate the effects that these patterns of representation and narrative have on audiences, other media, and the broader cultural discourse in the U.S.
  5. Engage with the TV show by writing a 1,200-1,500 word essay that explains your analyses and conclusions about representation and narrative on television.

Required research materials:

  • Three consecutive episodes from one TV show (see list above)
  • Two professional, mainstream reviews (text)
  • Two peer-reviewed, academic journal articles (full text) directly or broadly related to the topic.

Optional research materials:

  • professional interviews with cast or crew
  • blog or social media posts

General Requirements checklist:

  • 1,200-1,500 words
  • double-spaced; 12 pt. font
  • submit paper to Canvas as a .doc or .pdf
  • use in-text citations where needed
  • include a Works Cited List (MLA) or References page (APA). Also attach the PDF files of your chosen academic journal articles.
  • insert your typed notes after the Works Cited List.

Response to peers Iranea Rivas and Norys Fleites

I need response to two peers in my discussion board,I only need one paragraph for each one.

Post of Iranea Rivas

Pregnancy, this like the video says should be nothing but positive vibes all around the mother to be. Music is a great way to calm and relax your unborn child and yourself, when you play music for the unborn baby it will help tony the concentration span for the baby’s future. When the child is born and you play the music you used to when he was inside the womb, the baby will feel secure and safe. Reading something that makes you feel good to your baby will make your baby feel good too. I didn’t know that reading to babies is a way that they become familiar with the mother’s voice. Not only talking to him to sing a song or read a book but telling the baby about your surroundings make them feel comfortable and use to your voice. Babies that are more comfortable with their mother’s voices become closer to them and those around them as well, and will always be by your side. Doing yoga will strengthen your pelvic muscles and make birth time a bit easier, as well as meditation and breathing methods helps ease child birth. Avoid laughing heavily because it shakes the baby and spicy food will give you heart-burn that can cause you to give birth a bit before time. A lot of these mentions details from the video I had no idea of, now I can give these tips and ideas to someone and or use them myself in the future.

Post of Norys Fleites

I think it’s a very interesting video. The advices provided in the video of what we can learn from the baby are very real. In fact, it is very common to hear many parents say that you learn a lot more when you have children. Children act in a special and innocent way that makes everything they do natural and spontaneous. The advice they give us in the video I really think we have to put it into practice. Practicing being present was one of the tips that most caught my attention. it is very true that for any job that we need we must be multi task without having a present that sometimes is not very effective, but we live in a society where it is necessary to be. Children live their day to day step by step no matter what they do their things one at a time and so we should do the same. I think this video is special to reflect and put various advices in practice.
