After completing the assigned readings and watching the provided video links, review the following classic psychological experiments:

• Johnson’s Monster Study
• Loftus, E.F. (1999). Lost in the Mail: Misrepresentations and Misunderstandings. Ethics & Behavior, 9(1), 51.
• Milgram’s Obedience Experiment
• Watson’s Little Albert Experiment
• Zimbardo’s Stanford Prisoner Experiment

After you have become familiar with these five classic studies, select one. Using headers to organize your paper, answer the following questions:

• What are the benefits of this study (to society, research, or subjects)?
• What are the practical implications (i.e., real-world applications of the findings)?
• What are likely consequences to society if this studyhad not been conducted?
• Whatwere the potential psychological costs of this study?
• Were the research participants in the study at risk for psychological injury?
• Could this type of research have been conducted without the use of deception?
• Do you feel the use of deception was justified given the potential cost to participants?
• If you were a member of a human subjects’ Institutional Review Board, would you approve the research described in the article?
• Do you feel that the contributions of this study outweigh the costs?
• Would you have minded if you discovered you participated in that study?
• Would you want to (or be willing to) participate as a research assistant for this study?

Be sure to incorporate information from the Fisher text as well as include information from at least two academic journals discussing the ethics of the experiment.

After reviewing the agency’s intervention/treatment plan, complete the intervention/treatment plan with a client with whom you are working.

Submit a 1-2 page paper in which you:

1. Briefly describe the setting where the intervention/treatment plan was conducted.
2. Briefly discuss how you used the literature to guide your practice (i.e. actual use of the treatment/intervention plan).
3. Briefly summarize the experience of actually working with the client and any emerging themes (i.e., anything in the literature that captured your attention or was repeated throughout) that were present during the intervention

Part 1

Part I – Our behaviors are influenced by society because we are parts of the society in which we live.  For most of us, we are born, we grow up, and live our lives in a society.  The norms and beliefs that are prevalent in society are parts of culture.

Please educate us about the role of “independence” and “interdependence” in a Grenadian society and/or cultural psychology.

a)     How does your society view independence and interdependence?

b)     What is the relationship of independence to interdependence (and vice versa)?

Part II – Describe an experience or encounter you have had with the stigma attached to mental disorders* or unusual behavior.  Then explain how the situation was addressed.  Please explain also how you acted within that situation and how your actions are related to social influence.  If you were not satisfied with how things happened, explain how you would address that situation in the future.

*Please note that you are not being asked to diagnose someone; only registered professionals have the credentials to do that.  Thus, if the situation you are describing involves a condition that has been diagnosed by a mental health professional then you can mention that the condition was “diagnosed”.  Otherwise, if you are relating a story about someone who behaved in an ‘unusual’ manner, then simply state that the behavior seemed abnormal.  The point of this discussion is about the stigma and not necessarily about whether a diagnosis was conducted.  An official diagnosis, or lack thereof, is important only to provide context to the condition and to any related effects.

Your Discussion should be at least 250 words in length, but not more than 750 words. Use APA citations and references for the textbook and any other sources used.

Part 2

For this Learning Journal, you will write a paper about your own experiences in Grenadian context. Using reflective writing consider the following:

• Society affects our behaviors and how we interact with others. How has society affected your views? What are some things that you feel pressured to conform to, and how have you approached this issue?
• Have you known others who conform to pressure from others or society? What did they do? How did they deal with the pressure?
• Discuss the importance of pro-social behavior and altruism in your society or cultural tradition.

The Learning Journal entry should be a minimum of 400 words and not more than 750 words. Use APA citations and references if you use ideas from the readings or other sources.

• A description of the fictional agency setting and types of services provided at this agency
• A description of the client system (depending on the client level you selected—micro, mezzo, or macro)

• A description of the client session scene in which you implement the GIM step and practice skills you have selected for working with this client system
• A verbatim script of the dialogue, which depicts the techniques you would use to implement the GIM step and the practice skills you selected for the client interaction (column 1 in the template), that occurs between you, as the social work intern, and the client(s)
