In our communities, today we are having a hard time helping the environment. All the garbage we constantly produce is a consuming behavior problem. Since we are learning about operations management. I decided to pick a material being used too often that has slipped past shoe brands in America. The idea that a shoe box could be remodeled or reinvented would be groundbreaking. As of 2019, when I purchase shoes I am still receiving a cardboard box that eventually will be tossed in the trash.

Paper cardboard is the biggest component of anyone’s trash. Discarding nearly 24 tons of it, by weight is the biggest manufactured product in the waste stream. Recycling 1 ton of cardboard saves over 9 cubic yards of landfill space, 700 gallons of water, and 46 gallons of oil. The shoebox production can be more efficient for us and our environment (Nau, 2014).

My proposal is to remodel the way shoes are being packaged. In the sequence of producing product packaging is one of the most harmful events in our ecosystems. I would like to propose a packaging method that eliminates cardboard production and allows a customer to benefit in two ways. One, when shoes are delivered they are kept clean and covered. Two, a lower cost zip bag that is easy to design could be revolutionary to all American Shoe brands. In Europe, some emerging companies have already eliminated cardboard and it is becoming the talk of the town. The customer has not only bought a pair of shoes but has a bag to easily transport them. Best of both worlds
