Critically evaluate and summarize a scholarly article from a peer-reviewed journal or trade publication.Articles from magazines or newspapers will not be accepted.Examples of peer-reviewed publications or trade publications include: Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Business Research, Academy of Marketing Science Review, Journal of Services Marketing, Marketing Daily, Social Media & Marketing Daily, etc. Pick a topic that interests you, but also relates to Consumer Behavior and the course content.

Post your article on Blackboard by the due date.No two students will be allowed to review the same article.Claims laid to articles will be on a “first come, first serve” basis.

Typed summary pages should be at 2-3 pages in length (double-spaced, 12 pt font, follow APA guidelines).A brief (5 minute) presentation of your article review will be given in class

Areas to Cover


Introduction of article

  • Include title, author, and the source (APA)
  • Give a brief overview of the topic
  • What area of Consumer Behavior does the article involve?
  • Why did the author choose to write about the topic?
  • Was there a need for this article or study


Cover the key findings or points made by the author

  • What were the main ideas the author wanted to relay?
  • Did the author find something new or better?
  • What was the author interested in finding?


Relay any conclusions draw from the findings or suggestions made by the author.

  • What can the reader learn from this article?
  • Was there anything that was surprising or unexpected?
  • What are areas /topics that could be studied further?


Closing thoughts:

  • Why did you pick the article? Why was it interesting to you?
  • Cover the “So What” factor.
  • How can you use this information later “on the job”?
  • Answer questions from class
