working within a mental health counseling office with an individual client; a private practice office with a couple or family; and in a school counseling setting

This week, you will interact with three case studies. The case studies include working within a mental health counseling office with an individual client; a private practice office with a couple or family; and in a school counseling setting. (Note: You will complete each case study but only focus on one case study for the Activity.) As you meet your client, consider your own identity and how your identity may impact the counseling relationship. Finally, consider the issue(s) the client(s) brings to counseling, and explore multicultural counseling skills to work ethically and effectively with your client(s).

Throughout the case study, you will be asked a few questions. You will not be assessed on your responses to the questions but, instead, are required to take time to thoughtfully answer each question.

Focus on just one case study. Then, write a 2-page APA paper including the following:

  • Identify at least one similarity and difference you have compared to the client(s) in the case study. Reflect on how these similarities and differences might impact the counseling relationship.
  • Consider at least two multicultural concepts or counseling tools you learned from the Learning Resources during Week 9. How does this concept or counseling tool impact your multicultural competence?

eflect on how far you have come in your understanding of the psychology profession and the actions you will take to make a contribution in the field.

For this discussion, reflect on how far you have come in your understanding of the psychology profession and the actions you will take to make a contribution in the field.

In your post:

  • Discuss which course activities and readings were most helpful to you:
    • What useful career information did you came away with?
    • How do you think you will use critical thinking, research skills, and competencies that were emphasized in the course when you are working as a psychologist?
    • How do you think you might use the services of Capella’s Career Center to help you stay focused on your professional goals, now and throughout your program?
  • Explain how you will contribute to your field and the welfare of your clients when you are a working psychologist.
  • Specify ways in which you envision yourself giving back to your community beyond practicing in field.

Be sure to cite course readings to support your statements.

Researching Stereotypes

Researching StereotypesStereotypes, like bias, are a social phenomenon that fuels isms. Every culture has stereotypes.Part of understanding stereotypes more deeply requires us to answer such questions as “How are stereotypes formed?” “What attitudes, beliefs, or experiences maintain stereotypes?” and “How are stereotypes changed?” That is where research comes in. Unfortunately, it is hard to research a topic when research participants do not want to admit that they hold stereotypes, let alone use them to make life decisions. In this discussion, you will address religious stereotypes and create a research study that investigates those stereotypes within a religious culture of your choice. Finally, you will evaluate how cultural and research biases will affect your study.InstructionsYour initial post will have two parts. First, complete the following: Identify two stereotypes about a specific religion or faith. Compare and contrast the stereotypes and their effects on the subjects of the stereotypes.Next, describe a design for a research study related to your specialization that investigates an issue related to a stereotype or is counter to a stereotype. You may investigate anything related to the faith or religion, and stereotypes. For example, if you were a chemical dependency counselor, you might investigate alcoholism in Jewish Americans. Explain, briefly, what your research study plans to investigate and why this is important. Articulate the cultural biases that may surface in your research and how you will manage or avoid them. Explain how will you recruit participants. Discern the types of research biases you will want to avoid in the study.Your initial discussion post should be at least 200 words.

(Depression in Teens).

n this assignment, you will follow up on the Week 1 assignment by devising a specific research question and hypothesis statement for your topic(Depression in Teens). For this assignment, use the Week 2 Assignment Template provided.

Using the Week 2 Assignment Template, complete the following:

• Devise a specific research question on an aspect of the topic(Depression in Teens) selected in Week 1.

• Formulate a testable research hypothesis.

• Identify the research design category you believe is suitable for investigating your research question.

• Explain why this research design category is an appropriate choice.

Support your choices and explanation with citations from the textbook and at least one scholarly/peer-reviewed source. You can find suitable journal articles about specific research designs and methods in the Research Methodsresearch guide.

The Research Question, Hypothesis, and Approach paper

• Must use the provided Week 2 Assignment Template.

Out-of-control sexual behaviors are

Out-of-control sexual behaviors are sexual health problems in which one lacks the ability to control their sexual urges, thoughts, or behaviors. These behaviors may lead to sexual exploitation or the act(s) of nonconsensual abuse or exploitation of another person sexually. As a counselor, we may work with clients who experience out-of-control sexual behaviors as well as clients who are survivors of sexual exploitation. In this week’s discussion board post, we will explore the role of rehabilitation among both populations.JosefJosef is a 27-year-old man. He has been married to his wife for 4 years. They have a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old, and his wife is pregnant. Josef has always had a higher sex drive than his past girlfriends and his current wife. In the past, he was able to masturbate regularly to porn to meet his desires. Josef has always been sexually aroused by younger women with small breasts and long hair. When Josef first met his wife, she had small breasts and long hair, but her hair has gotten shorter over the years and her breasts have gotten larger, especially with her current pregnancy. His wife’s sexual desire has also decreased drastically with each child and Josef began to seek sexual attention elsewhere. He went to some local bars and had occasional hook-ups with women in the bars and sometimes was invited to parties where he would meet women for one-night stands. He met Sophie at a local party and was instantly drawn to her appearance of long hair and small breasts. They began meeting every day and soon began having sex every day. He continued to meet women at bars and other parties some evenings, telling his wife he was working late.Imagine Josef has come to counseling. Josef’s wife has “forced” Josef to go with her to couples counseling because, as she shared to their couples counselor, “Josef is cheating on me. I caught him texting a picture of his penis to some woman!” The couples counselor referred Josef to work with you individually. Josef is bright red and does not maintain eye contact. Knowing what you know about Josef, respond to the following: Share your emotional reaction if you were to work with Josef as his counselor. What emotions come up for you? Share your position on the degree/extent to which Josef may find a balance of healthy sexual behavior.

Is the Measure of Consistency a State of Mind?

Is the Measure of Consistency a State of Mind?

In your unit readings from the Psychological Testing and Assessment text, you read about three sources of error variance that occur in testing and assessment. These include test construction, test administration, and test scoring and interpretation. Additionally, other sources of error may be suspect. You were also introduced to reliability coefficients, which provide information about these sources of error variance on a test (see Table 5-4).

The following reliability coefficients were obtained from studies on a new test, THING, purporting to measure a new construct (that is, Something). Alternate forms of the test were also developed and examined in subsequent studies published in thepeer-reviewed journals. The alternate test forms were titled THING 1 and THING 2. (Remember to refer back to your Psychological Testing and Assessment text for information about using and interpreting a coefficient of reliability.)

  • Internal consistency reliability coefficient = .92
  • Alternate forms reliability coefficient = .82
  • Test-retest reliability coefficient = .50

In your post:

  • Describe what these scores mean.
  • Interpret these results individually in terms of the information they provide on sources of error variance.
  • Synthesize all of these interpretations into a final evaluation about this test’s utility or usefulness.
  • Explain whether these data are acceptable.
  • Explain under what conditions they may not be acceptable and under what conditions, if any, they may be appropriate.

(Discussion Guidelines)

Discussion question instructions will be presented for each question as it is posted. Your discussion answers must be thorough and expansive. Be sure to answer every question substantially using excellent integrative material from course readings and research. Usually a good answer to a set of discussion questions is about 1-2 pages (three to four substantial paragraphs for a total of 500 words…..NOT including the questions or references; only your answer). It is HIGHLY encouraged to conduct a word count before submitting your discussion answer. One or two short paragraphs or one or two sentences per paragraph will not meet the rigor requirements for this class.

Support all work (even reflections and article reviews) with excellent integration of material. This class places a heavy emphasis on how well learners use resources to supplement and support their work. The answers to discussion questions are not to be opinion papers, but professionally presented research/course material-based work. Therefore, to be eligible for top grading of your work, each unit discussion answer requires AT LEAST TWO resources/references (one of which must be from the required Cohen, Swerdlik, & Sturman text book) listed at the end of the work. In addition, you must have SEVERAL (three or more) citations in your work that are associated with your references. Each answer to every question must have resource support

This Practical Book Review provides an opportunity for you to reflect on, respond to, and evaluate the ideas, concepts, and techniques in Petersen’s (2015) Why Don’t We Listen Better? based on your own life experiences and ideas from other course texts, and apply these to your interpersonal communication context.

Practical Book Review Instructions

This Practical Book Review provides an opportunity for you to reflect on, respond to, and evaluate the ideas, concepts, and techniques in Petersen’s (2015) Why Don’t We Listen Better? based on your own life experiences and ideas from other course texts, and apply these to your interpersonal communication context. Begin the body of your paper with a brief introductory paragraph, then organize your review in 3 sections, using the headings Response, Critique, and Application, following the specific directions provided below. Your review must be well written and organized, free of grammar and other writing errors, and formatted according to current APA style. A title page and a reference page are expected, but an abstract is not needed. Also, you may use the first-person pronoun.

Response

Articulate a personalized response that demonstrates meaningful reflection on the core content. Describe insights you gained about your own communication skills, strengths, weaknesses, and habits. For example, what concepts and principles were especially enlightening to you? Were you reminded of any past conversations? Did you identify with any of the communication traps? Your response should be between 400 and 500 words.

Critique

Evaluate the book from your own point-of-view and based on its intended purpose. What did you identify as its most valuable contributions? Did you find any of the concepts unclear or insufficiently developed? Also, compare and contrast 3 of Petersen’s ideas with related concepts articulated in Stewart’s Bridges Not Walls as well as in France & Weikel’s Helping Skills for Human Service Workers (and list these texts on the reference page along with the Petersen text). How are the perspectives of the three authors similar and/or different? Briefly analyze and discuss the relative strengths of each. Your critique should be between 700 and 800 words.

Application

Looking forward, apply what you have learned to your own interpersonal arena. Articulate the changes you need to make in light of the information gleaned from the content. Describe the specific strategies and techniques that you will implement in order to enhance your interpersonal communication—both personally and professionally—and how you plan to do so. Your application should be between 400 and 500 words.
