The Capstone Project is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to synthesize knowledge gained from course study throughout the student’s academic career. For this project, you will choose a topic related to your area of study (Health Services Administration or Health Care Management) and complete a Formal Written Report, an Oral Presentation and a PowerPoint Presentation based on your study and research.

WRITTEN FORMAL REPORT

The final paper should be 15 – 20 pages in length, not including title page, table of contents, and bibliography. The body of the report should be a minimum of 4000 words.

The final paper should follow APA basic format including 1 inch margins, 12 point Times Roman type, double spaced and standard rules for manuscript preparation.

The paper must have at least 6 references that are cited according to APA guidelines including proper in-text citations and a Reference List.

The paper will demonstrate the student’s ability to use clear and concise writing at the college level.

Paper should include: Cover Sheet, Table of Contents, Abstract, Introduction, Body and Conclusion, Reference Page and appropriate visuals, graphs, tables if appropriate.

The paper should encompass the course materials learned throughout the student’s bachelor-level academic career. It should address a topic that affects or is related to the Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Management.

The PowerPoint presentation must be a minimum of twelve slides (not including Title Page), must include graphics, a printed hand out and a copy of your speech or speaking points.  The hand out (summary/flier) should be at least one page. It should contain pertinent information about the presentation and be visually engaging.

REQUIREMENTS FOR POWER POINT:

(1)   The presentation should be at least 12 slides not including the Title Page.

(2)    The Power Point should include graphics and a chart (if appropriate).

(3)    You must include a handout or summary of pertinent points. It must be at least one page and no longer than two. It must be visually appealing. Save this as a separate PPT document and submit it in the “PowerPoint Presentation” assignmnet area in week 4.  The purpose is to give the viewer something to remind them of your presentation and remember the most important points.

(4)    You may also include a short summary of your speech that would accompany the presentation. This need not be long. A paragraph explaining the details and elaboration you would provide orally.

This project will be a 6–7 page paper in APA format. You will select a famous person (by reading a biography or viewing a movie) to complete a case study and a diagnosis. The person can be a historical or present-day figure of significance (e.g., has contributed to entertainment, science, industry, politics), or a fictitious character, such as Forest Gump or Anakin Skywalker.

This assignment in no way suggests that you have the education or training to complete such a task in the real world. Moreover, it does not imply that your chosen person truly has the diagnosis and/or has consented to treatment. Therefore, you must write a disclaimer at the beginning of your paper to demonstrate an awareness of ethical practice. You must also base your diagnosis on information from the course readings and materials in addition to professional resources from the UMGC library.

Please provide the following in your paper:

• Cover sheet: Provide the ethical disclaimer here.
• Background information: Give the background information of your subject (age, culture, gender, history, etc.) Discuss relevant socio-cultural aspects of his or her life—for example, possible historical influences (e.g., World War II). Discuss these with a focus on etiology.
• Diagnostic information: Provide a possible diagnosis, framed against the diagnostic possibilities from the course readings. Use books, journals, and the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) for reference, to help you build your diagnostic summary. Explain signs and symptoms identified and their coherency with the person’s context (physiology, risk factors). Discuss bias, assumptions, confounds, and other considerations sound clinical diagnostic practices require.
• Compare and contrast of at least two theoretical orientations: Find at least two empirical supports for your diagnosis that pull from different theoretical orientations. Evaluate the diagnostic value (e.g., applicability, empirical strengths) of each within the context of your diagnosis. (Empirical supports must come from professional journals from the

Your paper should be written as a coherent essay. You may include additional insights in your analysis, but you must address these key issues.

Assignment Guidelines

Prepare your Famous Person Diagnostic Paper according to the following guidelines:

• Structure your paper utilizing APA style; this includes title page, headers, subheadings, in-text citations, reference page, and general paper format (1-inch margins, double-spaced, 12-point font, etc.). An abstract is not required.
• Submit as a single document in either Microsoft Word, PDF, or RTF format.

   Please complete the following this week:

   1. After re-reading your research summaries and feedback, write an introduction to your final paper that will introduce your reader to research the topic, and preview the types of research summaries you will include. You may also want to use additional sources to cite important statistics about the disease/disorder or describe important symptoms or treatments that may be relevant.
   2. Revise your research summaries by re-reading to correct any confusing sections typos, mistakes or omissions. Integrate any feedback you received. (don’t worry I got 0 on my summaries), Add transition sentences to guide your reader through the summaries.
   3. Write a conclusion that summarize the main points of your paper. Then, interpret the research you read as a whole. Possible things to consider in your conclusion: What main themes emerged? What differences/discrepancies/controversies emerged? What gaps still exist in the research (what is still unknown about the biological basis)? What new discoveries have been made?
   4. After you have completed your paper, write an abstract. The abstract should be a mini-preview of the upcoming paper. A basic format for an abstract could include a sentence (or two) introducing the topic, a sentence summarizing the kinds of research the reader will encounter in your paper, and a sentence (or two) about the conclusion of the paper. (You’ll want to have your paper fairly complete before writing your abstract. Once the paper is complete or close to complete, it will be a lot easier to pull out these key pieces of information and assemble the abstract.)
   5. Use APA format for your writing. This assignment should be approximately 6 pages long (not including a cover page and references page) in APA format (12 point font, double-spaced, 1″ margins). Additional information about APA format is available HERE. An MSWord document that is pre-formatted to APA format is available for you to use (see the attachment below). Please use this template to help ensure that most elements of APA format will be already included in your assignment, making it a lot easier to produce a high-quality, professionally formatted assignment. 🙂
