Write your letter to the CEO of your own employer (or previous employer) expressing your concerns and suggestions for improvement based on what you’ve learned so far in this course

In our Week 8 reading we get a fun example of a Dear CEO letter and sample response.  What a fun way for us to express what we have learned over the last eight weeks.  Our goal this week in our discussion is to write our own Dear CEO letter.  Check out the CEO letter found on page 221 of the text.  In your initial discussion post write your own version of the “Dear CEO” letter.

  • Write your letter to the CEO of your own employer (or previous employer) expressing your concerns and suggestions for improvement based on what you’ve learned so far in this course. Take note of the response found on page 221 & 222.  Your responses to your peers should be written as though you are their CEO responding to their Dear CEO letters.
  • Support your initial post with at least one scholarly reference.

In the coming year what are key reasons CM Tech should adopt a performance management system?

What a wonderful and enlightening 8 weeks we have spent with Emma.  Now it’s time to see what we’ve learned.  Emma comments on a silly Christmas letter from our text found on page 215.  The author of our text has written a wish list to Santa explaining all his wishes for the business world for the coming year.  While it may seem a silly exercise, it’s a great way to get us thinking about what we feel is most important for organizations in the future.  Emma asks you what you would include on your list of most important things if you were to make a wish list for CM Tech.  You take her question to heart and ask if you can get back to her after you do some research and really consider the question.

Your research response for Emma should include the following key elements:

  1. In the coming year what are key reasons CM Tech should adopt a performance management system?
  2. In the coming year what key actions should the HR team at CM Tech be taking to support performance management efforts?
  3. In the coming year CM Tech wants to implement a new incentive program.  How can they tie the incentive program to their performance management efforts?
  4. In the coming year what efforts should the accounting department put forth to support costing and the performance management effort?
  5. In the coming year how should the budgeting process be optimized to avoid common pitfalls and support the performance management efforts?
  6. In the coming year how should CM Tech go about creating value for their customers and their shareholders?  How does this tie to their performance management strategy?
  7. In the coming year what actions should CM Tech take to enhance their relations with the community, the natural environment, and support sustainability?

Please note – your responses should reflect further research and summarize the key issues we have studied in this course.  Copying work from prior assignments is considered academic recycling and is not allowed.  Your insights in this report should reflect a culmination of learning and application rather than repetition of previous insights.

Your report should outline the key concepts in each area listed above and provide examples as appropriate.  Be sure your report is a minimum of 8 pages, includes an introduction and conclusion paragraph, title page, and references page.  The title and references pages do not count toward the total page count.  The report should be formatted in APA style and be supported by a minimum of five scholarly references.

Since CM Tech is a fictitious company, you may use great liberty in this assignment in creating or imagining the details needed in order to write your report.

Post your initial response by Wednesday, midnight of your timezone, and reply to at least 2 of your classmates’ initial posts by Sunday, midnight of your timezone

As you prepare for your final assignment due next week, develop one goal you would use for your continued development and post it in the discussion thread. Be sure to use the SMART format for your goal.

Goal Setting

Goal setting is an important process that includes many components in setting the goals that are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound. If you are unfamiliar with these goal setting components, the following resource will assist you in this process and support you in defining clear and relevant goals for the HR Leadership Development: Leadership Development Plan assignment due in Week 10.

  • Rouillard, L. A. (1998). Goals and goal setting, revised edition. Menlo Park, CA: Crisp Publications.
    • While the SMART categories are slightly different, the principles applied in this ebook are the same.
    • Search for Writing Goal Statements(Task 2) for guidance and examples of clear and purposeful goals.

Professional Development Goals

As you prepare for your final assignment due next week, develop one goal you would use for your continued development and post it in the discussion thread. Be sure to use the SMART format for your goal.

Step 1 – Read the Information Below

Managers spend one third of their time communicating up and down the organizational hierarchy. Communication is the transfer and understanding of information from one person to another. The communication model comprises of several parts.

We want to examine the communication pathway or medium in which communication is delivered. The communication pathway is the way messages are sent, including:

  • Face-to-face meetings.
  • Electronic mail and online discussions.
  • Written letters or memorandums.
  • Telephone or voice-mail, among others.

While some people may be better at using certain mediums over others, some mediums can be better suited for the specific message being conveyed. For this week’s discussion, suppose you are a manager who needs to communicate several messages to employees of the company.

Messages
  1. The CEO abruptly resigns after the news media reports that the CEO embezzled millions of dollars.
  2. A plan to relocate the company.
  3. The death of an employee.
  4. The reassignment of one division to a new location.

personal goals paper

Paper should be at least 750 words

This paper is intended to help you reflect on what you have learned in this class and how you want to use your knowledge to set up goals for your future. No two plans will be identical, but most will share some qualities.

  • Start with a “Theme” – Clearly state your “Theme” as the primary message that your paper conveys or communicates.

  • Start with a paragraph or two about how you see your future including career, family, what kind of friends and social life you foresee, what else you need to make time and money for, such as spirituality/religion, hobbies, exercise. The beginning will be short and focus on what your values and big goals are.

  • Then start penciling in major goals and age you expect to achieve them. Include personal, career and financial goals.

Major goals for college students are likely to start with graduating from college and beginning a career. When do you expect to graduate? What career do you want? What is likely to be your first job toward that career? How much money is reasonable to expect in the beginning of your career? You already researched this for the budgeting assignment. When do you expect, or wish, to commit to a life partner? How does finding a spouse or maintaining that relationship fit with your career plans? Do you want to have children? Do you want to buy a house, and if yes, when? How much will that cost? How long will it take to save up the down payment (usually 20% of the cost of the house). Start with your current age and plan into your 90’s (just in case you live that long, you want to make sure you can still afford the essentials – and some fun!)

  • Follow that with more detailed paragraphs for each decade of your life. Start with your current age and plan into your 90’s (just in case you live that long, you want to make sure you can still afford the essentials – and some fun!). For each decade project your career, job title, income and the amount you expect to save each month. What do you expect your investment philosophy be in this decade? How do you expect to grow your wealth? Include all the expected insurance policies you will buy. What is your expected lifestyle?

Your last paragraph can be your 60’s and on including whether and when you hope to retire, how you think your interests will have developed and how much money you will need to have a “good life” based on your own values. It’s hard to plan that far ahead, but your goals after your 60’s won’t change that much. They include having enough money for the rest of your life (which you can’t do much about if you have not planned starting in your 20’s or so) having some fun and covering medical costs. In your seventies, if things continue as they are now, you are likely to be healthy and active enough that you still want a significant “play- money” account. The important thing to think about is how much money you will need in your old age, accounting for inflation. You need to think about that when you are young or you won’t have a comfortable old age.

annual performance evaluation

he annual performance review is the most commonly recognized control management tool. It is also the most feared by employees.

You are the Branch Manager for a regional bank, and it is the dreaded annual performance review/evaluation/appraisal time. You have recognized that mostly employees dislike annual reviews and that they often cause anxiety and fear. Therefore, you have decided to adjust the process to focus more on the employee’s strengths and opportunities in order to motivate and inspire your employees for the year to come.

You will be creating an annual review for your employee (see scenario below) from the template attached here Click for more options

Scenario: The employee’s name is Nancy Reinhart, and she has been with the bank for 7 years. Nancy started as a teller at the bank, but has had 2 promotions (to head teller and assistant manager) since she started. In that time, she has always taken on new roles and responsibilities when asked. She has also sought out specific roles, tasks, and learning opportunities in order to learn and grow with the organization. She has always met and exceeded her sales and customer service expectations.

Despite Nancy always meeting her goals, the branch has not met its sales goals this year. One of Nancy’s primary responsibilities is the training and development of the account managers (members of the sales team) that report to her.

Nancy has always been very involved in the local community; however, this year it seems that she has pulled back on her involvement in organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce.

Given this information, complete the performance evaluation template with the mindset of highlighting her strengths and motivating her for the upcoming year.
