Prompt:
This is a reader response exercise. It is clear that Catcher or O’Connor’s short stories have evoked some emotion or thought in many of you, whether revulsion, confusion, praise, condemnation, tolerance, inspiration, boredom, and so on. Whatever that thought process or emotion is, please hold on to it. Now, think about three concrete reasons or literary devices used within just one of the stories that you have read this semester that have helped evoke this reaction from you. Reasons and literary devices will vary. Here are just a few: characterization, setting, plot pattern, tone, narrative style, diction, descriptions, symbolism, use of hyperbole, use of foreshadowing, cultural sentiments, political message(s), use of religion, resolution, theme, profanity, racial discord, originality or lack thereof, rebellion against power structures, ambiguity…etc. Once you have selected the story and the three reasons/devices, write a simple essay (five paragraphs are sufficient) examining how those three elements have aroused the respective thought or emotion in you. Please note that your essay must include evidence from the story in each supporting paragraph, and it must not exceed four pages, counting the Work Cited page.
Helping Note: Thesis is the emotion/thought that is incited, and plan of development points are the three reasons/literary devices that have stirred this reaction. You may write this essay in the first person, if you prefer. Best of luck/skill!

CASE 2: To Sell or Not to Sell
Chris Hunt has been in private practice for 10 years in a suburb of a large metroplex. Dr. Hunt graduated from an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program (AEGD) and associated in a large general practice for 3 years before buying a building and opening a solo practice. Although all phases of general dentistry are performed, the focus of the practice is moving toward adult esthetic dentistry. Ms. Lisa Meyer is a dental hygienist who has been in Dr. Hunt’s practice full time for 3 years and enjoys a great relationship with her patients and an active schedule. Ms. Meyer has been a full time practitioner for 6 years, and this is the second office in which she has ever worked. Her greatest professional rewards are the trust that has developed between her and her patients and the improvement she has seen in their oral health.Dr. Hunt recently completed a continuing education series on esthetic dentistry and hired a practice management company to review the office. The course director and the management team both stressed the importance of using the hygienist to “sell dentistry†to patients. The course and the management team both identified certain phrases and inferences hygienists should use to help the patient make the “right†choice.Dr. Hunt approaches Ms. Meyer and explains her new role to her. Ms. Meyer is uncomfortable with this change in her job duties because she feels that she would be using her professional position to possibly unduly influence patients toward making certain treatment choices. “Am I taking advantage of the trust that I worked hard to establish with our patients?†she asks. “No,†Dr. Hunt replies. “Actually, you are educating our patients about the benefits of the highest quality care. In fact, to make this arrangement more attractive I am including an incentive plan with cash bonuses for every case that you sell.†This statement concerns Ms. Meyer because she feels that these incentives may eventually place her own economic self-interest in conflict with the patient’s best interest

My essay is on Waiting for Godot. This essay is about deconstruction based on either Existentialism(fate/freewill), Marxism(bourgeoisie/proletariat), Psychoanalysis[superego(duty)/id(desire)], Gender studies(hero/antihero), Postmodernism(metatheater/metahistory/irony/similacra). Consider the following scenario.
A patient was being admitted to the emergency room (ER) for dizziness. He also had a dry mouth and blurry vision. The doctor treating him stated that he was exhibiting symptoms of diabetes. The bloodwork and other preliminary tests confirmed the diagnosis of prediabetes. After the patient was stabilized and conscious, the doctor gave him discharge instructions. The doctor told the patient that the patient could control his condition and avoid developing diabetes and the need for medication if the patient reformed his diet. The doctor prescribed nutritional counseling and follow-up visits with the patient’s primary physician. The patient asked for medication instead, and the doctor told him that lifestyle changes would resolve the issues and diabetes could be prevented without the need for medication.
The patient goes home and decides that he does not want to make a lifestyle change and would rather just wait until he needs the medication because it will be easier. He ignores the doctor’s instructions and forgets all about them. After several months, he starts to have numbness in his toes, but since it does not hurt, he ignores it. Eventually, he starts to have the same symptoms he had before in addition to the numbness.
He faints at home and is rushed to the emergency room. A different doctor treats him and assesses his situation. He is diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. He now has permanent nerve damage in his foot and is prescribed a very expensive medicine he will probably be on for the rest of his life.
Since his last ER visit, he has lost his job and only has the minimum of health insurance that does not cover the medication. The patient sues the first ER doctor for negligence. He claims the doctor did not clearly explain the risks and should have put him on medicine right away like he asked.
For this case study assignment, you will compose an essay response of at least two pages in which you explain the following issues:
§the rights and responsibilities of both the patient and the physician in a situation involving informed consent,
§the arguments the patient in this scenario could use to justify bringing a negligence lawsuit against the first ER physician,
§the steps the patient in this case would follow in order to file a negligence lawsuit involving informed consent against the first ER physician, and
§how the physician could defend himself against a negligence lawsuit.
In order to respond to this case study, you will need to research at least two legal cases that demonstrate the physician’s defense you have proposed. Briefly explain the issues of the two cases you cite, and describe the outcomes. How do they relate to the above scenario? Do you agree with the court’s decisions in the two cases? Why, or why not?
Be sure to use proper APA formatting, citations, and references in your response to this assignment.
