 Grant Proposal – Topic, Specific Aims and Bibliography

For this assignment, you will select a topic for your grant proposal (i.e., Final Project due in Week Six). Then you will write the Specific Aims section and create a preliminary bibliography. You will conduct a search in the Ashford University Library and/or on PubMedCentral (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.  to locate at least 10 scholarly peer-reviewed articles that are relevant and that support your funding request.  Create your preliminary annotated bibliography and ensure that your resources are relevant and supportive of the Specific Aims as well as the Background and Significance sections of your grant proposal (the Background and Significance sections will be written in Week Three).  Background and Significance Sections of the Grant Proposal

For this week’s assignment, you will complete the Background (including a literature review) and Significance sections of your grant proposal following the Grant Proposal Guidelines (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. See the Sample Grant Proposal Template (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.  as an example and use it as a template for your Grant Proposal. The more complete your assignment is, the more feedback you will receive for the Final Project. In addition, you will create the References page for your proposal by taking the sources from your Week Two annotated bibliography and converting them into a standard APA-formatted References list (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Be sure to include at least five more peer-reviewed sources on your References page (so that you have at least 15 sources as required for the Final Project).

 Grant Proposal – Proposed Study, Budget, and Draft Grant Proposal

This week you will write the Proposed Study and Budget sections of your Grant Proposal. The Proposed Study section will resemble a typical methods section like the one you would write in an empirical paper (except that the data have not yet been collected). In this section you will describe the study that you are proposing to conduct to test your hypothesis. 

You will also write the Budget Justification section and the Budget for your grant proposal. The Budget Justification section will contain a description of your proposed budget including how grant funds will be used and justifying costs. Proposed costs must be reasonable, necessary and allocable to carry out the project’s goals and objectives. 

The Budget, which will be Appendix A of your grant proposal, will follow the format of the budget in the Sample Grant Proposal Template (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., Appendix A . There is also a Budget Calculation spreadsheet (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. that you can use to determine the direct and indirect costs for your proposed study.

After writing the Proposed Study,  Budget Justification and Budget sections, combine them with the completed sections you have done in Weeks Two and Three (with feedback incorporated), and create the first draft of your grant proposal. Submit your draft grant proposal this week for the Week Five Grant Proposal – Peer Review assignment.

 Grant Proposal – Peer Reviews

By Day 1 of Week Five, the instructor will send you two de-identified grant proposals to review for this assignment . You will play the role of a grant reviewer by reading and giving feedback to two other students’ grant proposals (proposals will be assigned at random). 

The Grant Proposal – Peer Reviews Must be three to six double-spaced pages in length (not including the title or reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Must address the following areas of the proposal you are reviewing: Specific Aims: Does the proposed study seem adequate to achieve these specific aims? Background: Does the literature review justify the need for the study? Are there any gaps or missing data in the literature review? Significance: Does the proposed study improve scientific knowledge, technical capability and/or clinical practice? Proposed Study: Does the proposed study methodology answer the hypotheses listed in the Background section? Is the proposed methodology sufficient to achieve the stated specific aims? Must include a separate title page with the following: Title of paper you are reviewing Reviewer’s  name Course name and number Instructor’s name Date submitted Must use at least one peer-reviewed source in addition to the course text.  Grant Proposal

For your final project, you will finalize your grant proposal to secure funding for a neuroscience investigation. This assignment will involve integrating information covered in previous weeks about brain networks and disorders that occur as the result of dysfunction in these networks. The grant proposal will require you to identify a research question based on a thorough review of the literature related to a particular disorder/syndrome and design a scientifically sound grant proposal using current methods of neuroscience investigation.
