Week 8: Team Project

Week 8: Team Project

Compare the team member’s Parts 4-6 that were submitted in Week 7 as part of each student’s Course Project. Each organization should have its own section in the team paper and a final section should be a comparison and assessment of these organizations. The team should express the developmental strategies, cost-benefit analysis, outcomes assessment, methodology for evaluating success and how each can be improved. There should be a literature review section of scholarly research covering developmental strategies, cost-benefit analysis, outcomes assessment, methodology for evaluating success and how each can be improved that contains at least 1 article per team member and is structured as an annotated bibliography. This paper should be at least between 7 and 9 pages per student on the team in length (not counting any images or charts).  Each section of the report should be clearly labeled with appropriate headings and each section should be clearly labeled with the Full Name and DSI Number of the team member who completed each respective section.  The organization should contain the following headings: Title page/table of contents; introduction; a header for the organizations that summarizes the final findings; literature review; analysis and comparison; recommendations; conclusion; references.

Summarize the overall results from each students’ Training or Intervention Strategy that was submitted in week 7. Each summary should be limited to about one page per student.

Literature Review20You must address at least one scholarly resource per student in this section. Approach this section as a mini book report on each of the reference sources that significantly informed your analysis and proposed solutions. Give the reader an encapsulated review of what information you found most relevant to your research. You may have found conflicting opinions or theories related to your topic area. Identify and discuss any such contrasts or describe in detail significant agreement among your sources. Your literature review should be separate and distinct from your analysis section; it is a summation of your research. The goal should be a paragraph containing a minimum of three to five sentences per review.Analysis and Comparison40

Explore the work in depth and with scholarly rigor. Compare and contrast the various sets of plans for each organization. Create a matrix that contains each organization on the horizontal access and one the vertical axis uses the following from each students’ week 7 paper- Part 4: Develop a Training or Intervention Strategy to Address the Needs; Part 5: Determine the Training or Intervention Cost and Quantify Expected Results; Part 6: Develop a Method of Training Evaluation

Develop a narrative that critically compares the matrix elements. A critical element of this section is to apply leadership and organization concepts and models from our text, from class discussions, and from your literature review. Discuss the concepts, ideas, or insights that are most valuable in helping you make sense of the causes of the problem. Support your analysis with reference to appropriate research material.Conclusion10

References5

All references must be cited in two places—within the body of your paper and on a separate reference list. Choose references judiciously and cite them accurately. Cite all sources using APA format. Please note that citing an author’s work within your text documents your research, identifies the source for readers, and enables readers to locate the source of information in the alphabetical reference list at the end of the paper. To use the ideas or words of another person without crediting the source is plagiarism. Plagiarism in its purest form involves copying passages either verbatim or nearly verbatim, with no direct acknowledgment of the source. The most common form of plagiarism is to paraphrase information from your source material. Paraphrasing does not relieve you of the obligation to provide proper identification of source data. The best way to avoid plagiarism is to make sure all quotes, ideas, or conclusions that not your own are given proper acknowledgment in your text.

Week 8 Human Resources

You have been retained by the Vice President (VP) of Human Resources (HR) of this company to recommend to the company an optimum (the Best Fit) HRIS and Payroll system that would be appropriate for the concerned company. This company is currently using ADP as the outsourced payroll service and a paper based model for all their HR administrative process.

The VP of HR would like your expertise to recommend to the company an integrated Payroll and HRIS system that would be appropriate for the company and fit the company’s needs. The company does not want to outsource any Payroll to HR Administrative Processes.

Your task in this consulting assignment is to recommend to the VP of HR two to three HRIS/Payroll integrated systems that the VP can include in her final due diligence before she selects the “right” system for the company.

The specifications and features that are her musts are the following:
A Benefits processing module.

– A Performance Management processing module.

– A Training and Development Administration Module.
In summary, she wants to find a single system that fulfills the company’s payroll processing needs and also satisfies the HR department’s needs for automating all regular HR administration processes.

Your task as a consultant is to do a thorough web based research study to find and recommend to the VP two off-the-shelf purchasable turn-key hybrid Payroll/ HRIS system suitable to satisfy the wants of this company

As a team, you are to do your research and develop a PowerPoint with voice over presentation that can be used to make a formal presentation to the VP of HR. Please note you are making this presentation to your Professor who is the VP of HR for this company. Also, a report should be written as though you were giving it to the VP of HR. It should be clear, concise and well researched. Writing should be professional and clean without the use of unexplained acronyms or slang terms.

Remember in your project work you have address the cost of purchase which should include the cost of customization to convert the off-the-shelf purchased system into a ready to use turn-key HRIS/Payroll integrated solution for the company. Also, training costs of current employees in the use of the new system should be included.

There are hundreds of systems in the market and therefore the VP of HR needs your help to narrow down the options to TWO short-listed HRIS / Payroll vendors that would provide your client the highest value and return on investment.

Start your web research by using the search term “HRIS” on a search engine such as Google and review the findings. You will find other sources in the Course Research page. Use the link to HRIS Vendors found in Webliography and research different HRIS vendors.

Also, you will find material for the Course Project in the following Canvas Class Sections:

Lesson Week 1

Lesson Week 2

Lesson Week 5

Remember, the VP of HR must justify the purchase and implementation of the HRIS system to her boss – the CEO. This justification must be done using the Return on Investment (ROI) logic. The ROI of HR programs usually explains the financial return for investing in a program, process, or initiative.

ROI is usually developed for HR Initiatives by calculating the benefit (return) of an investment and dividing by the cost of the investment. The result being expressed as a percentage or ratio.

So, the ROI Calculation can be done by the following formula.

ROI = Net Project Benefits divided by Project Costs.

So, say the Cost of project is $250,000 and Benefits of project (1st year) $310,000.

Then the ROI will be equal to, $310,000-$250,000/$250,000 = 0.24 x 100 = 24%.

It is understood that most of the benefits of a HRIS system is in the following, 1) processing time saved, 2) increased productivity, 3) savings in staff costs and 4) increased employee satisfaction. The cost of investment can be calculated direct by recognizing the, 1) cost of the software, 2) the cost of implementation consulting and 3) the cost IT staff who will be engaged to customize the software for the company.

It is also understood that some of dollar value of the benefits is not easily quantifiable.

To summarize, your task for this Project is to research the literature on the ROI HRIS Investments. There is a lot of material on this subject on the web. After you have done the research you need to write a paragraph and also add to your PowerPoint presentation some rationale that the VP of HR can use to justify this HRIS investment to the CEO who would have to approve this cost outlay. Please review the grading rubric below to ensure you meet all of the criteria to maximize your final grade.

Your paper and presentation has to also include a ROI Analysis and Commentary based on research you do on ROI for HRIS Acquisitions.240
Project Mechanics

There are two deliverables for this project:

First, you are to Prepare a PowerPoint Presentation for the VP of HR. The PowerPoint Presentation should be a voice over Presentation using a multimedia piece (for example, a video, poster, PowerPoint, narrated PowerPoint, etc.).

Second, a report should be written as though you were giving it to your client the VP of HR. It should be clear, concise, and well thought out. Writing should be professional and clean.

There is a 20 page-count limit for this paper; however, it should be thorough. Include all aspects of the assignment grading criteria.
Cite in text when using thoughts that are not your own. All sources must be appropriately cited—use APA for in text and reference list citation formatting.
Include a reference page for source(s). Put the paper title information on a separate page. Use 12-point font (Arial, Times Roman), double spaced, and 1″ margins as a standard format. Do not include extra lines between paragraphs, and so forth. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and so forth, will all be taken into consideration when awarding points. Proofread your paper before submitting; spell check is not foolproof. Writing content is critical. If you make a statement, for example, “All people who break the law should improve their communication skills to stay out of jail,” you need to substantiate that statement. If that statement is not your own thought or a statistic, cite. If it is your opinion, state that and explain what led you to that conclusion. Provide enough information to validate and explain the statement.

Treat this assignment as a real-world situation. This will give you the opportunity to practice how you would research and provide information as an HRM professional.20Total Points

Technology has the potential to enrich and empower learning.   and what impact will the future of employment have on on education?   The global economy is being transformed with jobs outsourced to developing nations and artificial intelligence.  How prepare balanced global citizens with a heart for servant leadership in an increasingly secular, internationalized, technology driven fast changing world?

case of elderly couple

Consider Lydia’s and John’s cognitive and physical limitations as well as their social support. If you were presenting this case to a team of other human services providers, what developmental theories, concepts, and principles help explain this case?  What other information might you need to fully evaluate the situation in which Lydia and John live? If you were the protective service worker, what are the options for this couple? Identify several feasible plans with explanation and support from a source of information. Include the risks and benefits of each option. Then, identify what your final recommendation would be and why.

Case Study

Lydia and John were a couple in their nineties who lived in their own home and had been married over sixty years. Both were confused and forgetful. They had two sons who were in their seventies and lived in nearby towns. One son was estranged from them. The other was somewhat involved in their lives, but he had a mentally ill wife and health problems of his own to deal with. The couple first came to the attention of a protective service worker when John was hospitalized after a fall. When left on her own, Lydia’s confusion became more pronounced. A referral was made for home care services, but, when a worker went out to assess the couple, their son was present and refused services. Based on concerns of benign neglect, a protective services report was issued. A caseworker investigated and substantiated the report, citing the son’s interference with services and the couple’s own inability to provide adequate care for each other. The protective services worker found both John and Lydia to be very forgetful and somewhat confused, though Lydia was more impaired. Due to their increased physical frailty, they had been using only the first floor of their home. Since the bedrooms and bathroom were upstairs, the living arrangement presented several problems for the couple. Lydia had a regular bed, but John was sleeping on a cot. The low height of the cot caused him to lose his balance easily, resulting in several falls. Since there was no toilet downstairs, they were using a bucket in the kitchen and emptying it outside. They were unable to maintain their home and conditions became unsanitary. The son tried to help, but he had his own limitations. The elderly couple was well able to afford assistance, but they did not want to spend the money. Furthermore, even though the son who helped with paying the bills was not taking advantage of his parents financially, he was obviously concerned with “preserving his inheritance.” Meanwhile, John and Lydia were extremely conservative in terms of how they chose to spend their money; they insisted they could not afford help.

Week 2: Techniques of Development

Just like a chef creates a new dish by trying different combinations of ingredients, a writer composes the recipe of a new story by manipulating the techniques of development of setting, plot, and time. While a chef must figure out how to keep his or her dish tasty, a writer is faced with the challenge of finding the right balance of detail, using the techniques of development. But how does one go about building a setting and a plot, and how important is the role of time to a story?

Last week, you learned how to apply elements of the short story to create your story outline and opening scene. This week, you will be able to expand your story by using description and narration to create a setting and a plot, and to use time in order to make your story come to life, culminating in a first draft. Learning Objectives By the end of this week, you will be able to: Deconstruct the use of description and narration in a short story Apply development techniques used in creative writing

Learning Objectives By the end of this week, you will be able to: Deconstruct the use of description and narration in a short story Apply development techniques used in creative writing Discussion: Techniques of Development

In order to craft an effective and interesting short story, a writer must be able to help the reader visualize the setting and understand the movement in the story. A loss of the story’s realistic nature could mean the loss of a reader. Writers often create this context by describing the details visible to the characters and using narration to relate the background to what is happening in the story. In this Discussion, you will examine how established writers use the development techniques of setting, plot, and time to create an effective story.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Review the assigned portions of Chapters 5, 9, and 10 in Shaping the Story.

Review the following short stories and look for the techniques of time, setting, and plot: · Louise Erdrich, “The Red Convertible” in Shaping the Story. Chopin, K., & Knights, P. (2000). The Awakening, and Other Stories. Oxford, [England]: Oxford University Press. Retrieved from http://academicguides.waldenu.edu/engl2110

Consider how the authors use the setting, plot, and time in their stories as tools to describe and narrate the scenes. What are the settings of each story? How do the authors establish plot in each story? In what time frame does each story occur?

With these thoughts in mind: By Day 3

Post 2 to 3 paragraphs deconstructing the use of description and narration in each story. Be sure to answer the following questions: How do the authors use description and narration to explain their stories to the reader? How do the authors develop their plots? How is it similar to or different from the way the other authors developed their plots? How do the authors create the settings? How does clarity of plot make a story more effective? How do the authors illustrate the passage of time?

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to the week’s Learning Resources, or something you have read, heard, seen, or experienced.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings.

Respond to at least one of your colleague’s postings in one or more of the following ways: Ask a probing question. Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting. Offer and support an opinion. Validate an idea with your own experience. Make a suggestion. Expand on your colleague’s posting.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made. Submission and Grading Information

Week 3: Elements of Craft

Having begun to mold your short story with an outline, an opening scene and the use of the development techniques of setting, plot, and time, this week you will further develop your story, incorporating the elements of the craft of creative writing. How do different authors approach these elements in their short stories? How do point of view, tone of voice, characterization, and dialogue give a story its shape, weight, and tangibility? You will learn to apply these elements to carve out the story you wish to sculpt from the progress you have already made.

This week, you will develop the point of view, tone of voice, characters, and dialogue in your story to revise your first draft from Week 2, revealing your story more fully. Learning Objectives By the end of this week, you will be able to: Compare and contrast elements of craft in short stories Revise creative writing to incorporate elements of craft Discussion: Elements of the Craft of Writing

The narrator’s point of view is the reader’s window into the soul of your story. Combined with the tone of voice, characterization, and dialogue, these elements of the craft of writing give your story believability and interest. How can you combine the elements of the craft with the elements of the short story and the techniques of development you learned about in Weeks 1 and 2? In this Discussion, you will understand point of view, tone of voice, characterization, and dialogue and examine how other writers use these elements of craft to improve their work.

To prepare for this Discussion: Review the assigned portions of Chapters 3, 4, 6, and 7 in Shaping the Story. Review “Revelation” by Flannery O’Connor, “Mericans” by Sandra Cisneros, and “Why I Like Country Music” by James Alan McPherson in Shaping the Story. Reflect on the voice in the assigned stories. How would you describe the voice in each short story? How do these voices demonstrate what the authors are saying about the main issues of each story? Reflect on the similarities and differences in the ways that the authors use dialogue to establish character presence.

Consider the issues that each story discusses. How do these issues shape the characters and affect the light in which they are seen at the beginning and the end of the story?

With these thoughts in mind: By Day 3

Post: 2 to 3 paragraphs comparing and contrasting different approaches to two of the following elements in two of the three stories in the Week 3 reading.. Be sure to cite at least two specific examples from your readings. Point of View  Tone of Voice  Characterization Dialogue

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to the week’s Learning Resources, or something you have read, heard, seen, or experienced.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings.

Respond to at least one of your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways: Ask a probing question.
