Addictions come in many forms and almost always involve a complex three-way interaction between the person, the object of the addiction (e.g., drugs, gambling, chocolate), and the societal context of the addiction. This complex interaction raises a controversial social question: Is addiction always a bad thing? Although there is often a significant amount of social stigma attached to addictions, and popular media often focuses on the treatment and prevention of addiction, there may also be associated positive qualities of addictive substances and behaviors.

Initial post will be written on a specific substance that has addictive potential (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, ibogaine, marijuana, ayahuasca, MDMA) of your choice.

Assignment Overview:

In the field of Early Childhood, there are many topics that have more than one side to an issue. The purpose of this assignment is to investigate a debatable issue in child development that is of interest to you and report its impact on the development of children. The issue chosen must have two different perspectives; for instance, all of the reasons to (pros) breastfeed an infant and all the reasons not to (cons) breastfeed an infant. A minimum of 3 references are required for this assignment. It is important to choose an issue that has been researched sufficiently in order to support both perspectives of the issue. After reviewing the research on your topic, you will use this research to complete a 5 to 7 full page written report in APA format. In the body of the paper, objectively describe the benefits (pros) of the issue and the disadvantages (cons) of the issue. Taking the research into account, the conclusion of your paper provides an opportunity for you to discuss your thoughts on the issue chosen and why you feel this way. Below is a list of acceptable topics. Issues such as child abuse, discipline, obesity, SIDS and abortion are not acceptable and do not provide two different points of view regarding the development of children. In recent years, CEOs have demonstrated an increased commitment to launching Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. CSR initiatives typically aim to benefit society, the environment, and the organization’s profitability. Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream was one of the first organizations to receive widespread public praise for its CSR efforts related to banning recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) from products and supporting causes such as the Human Rights Campaign. However, CSR initiatives are not always effective or beneficial. In some cases, CEOs may launch CSR efforts for the sole purposes of gaining a competitive advantage and improving public relations, without giving much thought to how the initiative actually benefits society and the environment. Furthermore, critics of CSR, such as Peter Drucker, Milton Friedman, and Jack Welch, argue that leaders and organizations should stick to what they know, which is making a profit.
