Explain the use of norms in Test scoring Test interpretation Explain the pros and cons of group level norms  in test interpretation

When creating or interpreting a test, it is important to consider to whom you will compare your examinees. What is the appropriate population for creating norms? For example, as people age, they tend to get lower scores on tasks requiring speed. Does it make more sense to use age-related norms or should the examinees be assigned a percentile that reflects their performance relative to the general population? There is no one-size-fits-all answer. If the test is to be used to detect the possibility of brain disease, then one would want to score relative to age norms to prevent false positives in older test-takers. If the test is to be used to evaluate whether one can safely operate a machine requiring quick reaction times, then one would use general norms.

We are focused on norms and scaling test scores for interpretation. Test scores can be normed in a number of ways, and the approach taken has implications for interpretation. Those familiar with things like the MMPI may be familiar with the term “spike” on its scales. The “spike” is based on the responses to items compared to “normal people”. This comparison is what makes the MMPI useful for clinicians. In addition,  this week you will be doing some basic calculations in the course dataset in the context of investigating norms, and the use of norms in interpreting data.

To prepare for this Discussion, consider the use of norms when making decisions about individuals in organizations.

Discuss how the seven stages of grieving can be applied to losses through divorce, moving from one place to another, or the amputation of a limb (arm or leg)

As we come to the end of your course, it is important to discuss the impact of grief and loss on those who have experienced loss in their life. Grief is a normal part of experiencing death and is experienced in many forms. It is critical to understand the symptoms and available support to help someone in this process. Discuss how the seven stages of grieving can be applied to losses through divorce, moving from one place to another, or the amputation of a limb (arm or leg). Describe the four necessary tasks of mourning. What are some of the practical steps one can take in accomplishing each of these tasks? What might cause children to react differently to the death of a grandparent? What “losses” are especially difficult in the death of a spouse and identify one community resource available to grieving families in your community?

Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your peers.  Use a minimum of one scholarly source found at the Ashford Library or Google Scholar, to critically examine the procedure that you have selected and its results.  Offer a substantial response to at least two other posts written by members of the class.  Be sure that you cite scientific evidence to support your views. A minimum of 250 -300 words should be used for each response to other posts.

Questions for Organizational Climate

Create 10 questions about organizational climate that you could ask an individual within an organization. Locate an individual within an organization with whom you can meet to ask your questions.

In 1,000 words, compose an analysis of what the climate of that organization might be, based on the responses from the questions asked.

List five strategies to help an individual function within that climate.

Submit your paper and the 10 questions created. See “Submitting Multiple Attachments” document for assistance on uploading more than one document to LoudCloud.

Use three to five scholarly resources to support your explanations.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Social Problem – Domestic violence against men: how society reacts on it?

Describe how the problem is being defined and constructed as a social issue.  Are there various interpretations of the issue? How did the problem develop and gain recognition? Use concepts from the first two units to introduce the social problem. This paper should be 2-3 pages defining and describing the social problem. If any sources are used, including the course textbook or required readings, use APA citation formats.

Children prefer to play with toys stereotypically associated with their own sex, even before the age of three O’Brien and Huston, 1985). However, some studies suggest that gender-atypical storybooks (e.g., storybooks where characters display behaviors usually associated with the opposite sex) can lead to changes in children’s play behavior, even in children with the most stereotypical play behavior (Ashton, 1983; Green et al., 2004).

In this Discussion, you will conduct research on program evaluation and evaluate the evaluation approaches found in those articles.

Social capital and disaster Earlier Earlier in the course, you explored how organizations plan for population needs and necessary services by implementing needs assessment surveys. Organizations and their funders want to know that program planning is done in an efficient and fiscally responsible way. Once programs are in place and services are being rendered, they also want to know that programs are progressing toward their goals and are making positive differences in the lives of their communities (and more specifically, the population receiving program services). To do this, organizations engage in program evaluation.

There are three main types of program evaluation: outcome-focused, empowerment, and outcome-focused empowerment. In outcome-focused evaluation, criteria for program success is set and evaluated by persons outside the direct program staff. Empowerment evaluation allows program staff to set and measure their own evaluation terms, and outcome-focused empowerment is a combination of the two. Each type of evaluation has its own benefits and limitations, and is more or less appropriate for various evaluation situations.

In this Discussion, you will conduct research on program evaluation and evaluate the evaluation approaches found in those articles.  To Prepare

EvaluationAbstract:Ethiopia is faced with challenges posed by natural disasters, especially drought. Integrated approaches to disaster risk reduction are necessary to improve the lives and livelihoods of those most vulnerable to disaster. The Women Empowered (WE) approach provides economic and social opportunities for women to build resilience to respond to disasters. This study examines the association between WE group membership and disaster preparedness and whether this relationship is mediated by social capital. We used a multi-stage random cluster sampling strategy to select and interview 589 female respondents from Lage Hidha district (298 from the intervention area and 291 in the comparison area). Using Stata 14.0, we employed Poisson regression analysis to study the mechanisms through which WE groups are associated with disaster preparedness. After controlling for clustering and confounding factors, we found that different components of social capital mediate the relationship between WE group membership and disaster preparedness. Specifically, taking action to prepare for a disaster is primarily mediated by emotional support from the group and perceived preparedness for a disaster is mediated by social network support, emotional support from the group, collective action, and trust. This study suggests that the association between WE groups and disaster preparedness operates through social capital in drought-prone areas of Ethiopia. Future research is needed to determine which forms of social capital have the greatest potential to help families prepare for and respond to a variety of humanitarian crises.Document Type:ArticleISSN:0277-9536DOI:10.1016/j.socscimed.2018.08.027Accession Number:S0277953618304519Copyright:© 2018 Elsevier Ltd. In this unit, we consider how theory guides group leadership.

In this unit, we consider how theory guides group leadership. The authors of the Group Counseling: Concepts and Procedures text (linked in Resources) describe how their own group leadership styles evolved over time and may have been influenced by several theories. For counselors in training, developing a solid understanding of a single theory may be a more manageable starting place to develop a group leadership style. Select one theory described in Chapter 3 and consider how it may fit with a group leadership style described in Chapter 5 that may suit your counseling approach. How might the selected theory and leadership style fit together? How will theory and leadership style facilitate the therapeutic factors described at the end of Chapter 5? Select at least two factors to explore.
