Perform an Internet search to identify and research and a situation where a health care organization or individual provider in your field of allied health was sanctioned by The Joint Commission or other regulatory body for a violation of one or more of The Joint Commission workplace safety, risk management, and quality care requirements.

Taking the role of the Chief Safety or Risk Management Officer in the organization or a provider’s office who now must deliver an accounting of the incident to the board of directors, develop a slide presentation, containing a title slide, 12-15 slides of content, and a references slide, focusing on the chosen incident. Your presentation must incorporate the following: A brief summary of the incident , including a description as well as the outcome. A summary of the applicable Joint Commission and other (e.g., local, state) regulatory standards that apply to the incident. A discussion of the mistakes and/or oversights made by the health care organization or individual provider that did or may have led to the incident that occurred, and an accounting of the preventive steps that could have or should have been taken to avoid them. A proposal outlining specific education or training the organization or provider will employ to ensure this type of incident does not occur in the future. Include concepts related to continuous quality improvement in your recommendations.

To create your presentation you can use PowerPoint or a program such as Prezi (www.prezi.com). Speaker’s notes must be included for each individual slide.

You are required to use and cite a minimum of three qualified resources

There are many professional nursing organizations that support and advocate for nursing practice. Being a part of a professional organization allows nurses to have a voice and make an impact in policymaking decisions and legislation that can ultimately affect patient care. Being part of a professional organization also allows nurses to come together and be a powerful voice for the nursing profession. The main goal is to provide evidence-based, safe, quality care and coming together to improve healthcare is a huge way to make an impact.

According to RN.com, “Nursing organizations promote and encourage the use of evidence-based practice to its members. Nurses who are certified in their specialty will find that their nursing professional organization will offer continuing education that is pertinent to their practice. Many nursing organizations hold annual nursing conferences. These conferences bring nurses together from across the country, and oftentimes worldwide, to share education and best practices. They also offer the opportunity to network with nursing colleagues from around the globe” (Schneider, 2015).

One such organization is the ANA. This organization acts as an advocate for the nurse and for patients. The ANA raises awareness to the public, and legislation at the state and federal level when certain problems arise in healthcare or improvements are necessary. Raising awareness contributes to making changes in order to provide patient’s safe quality care. “ANA offers the information, tools, and resources that nurses need to become effective advocates” (ANA, n.d.).

HW week -4

Review the Institute of Medicine’s 2010 report “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.” Summarize the four messages outlined in the IOM report and explain why these are significant to nursing practice. Discuss the direct influence the IOM report has on nursing education and nursing leadership. Describe the benefits and opportunities for BSN-prepared nurses. Explain why it is important that a nurse’s role and education evolve to meet the needs of an aging and increasingly diverse population. Discuss the significance of professional development, or lifelong learning, and its relevance in caring for diverse populations across the life span and within the health-illness continuum. Discuss how nurses can assist in effectively managing patient care within an evolving health care system.

Iron Deficiency Anemia

Write a case study  Your chosen disease/condition( Iron deficiency anemia ) Population most affected (ex: Older Adults, Middle Adults, Young Adults, Teenagers, Child, Infants) Age related milestone for your chosen population Socio-Demographic/Risk factors for getting the disease/condition Impact on QOL Current/new/recent research/EBP that will benefit/support this patient with the specific disease (If there are none please state so) Recommendation for treatment or Gold standards for treatment if any (can be tied into the current research as above) (If there are no gold standards then please state so, but there should be some recommendations) Please tell what/how you (speak in the first person) as the FNP caring for this patient with this specific disease can make a difference in his/her care and incorporate patient care/self-help teaching that can help him/her minimize disease symptoms. Red flags for this condition (what specific S/S require urgent/ER care) or when should you refer patient to specialist.

Genital Herpes

Please answer the following DQ’s.

Chapter 55

Isabella, a student nurse, has just started to work in a sexual health clinic part-time where there are a large number of clients who have genital herpes. The clients, both male and female range in age from 16 to 39 years, have varying levels of education and backgrounds.

a.            What features of sexually transmitted diseases would it be important for Isabella to review?

b.            Isabella states, “Why don’t these clients just stop having sex and then their conditions wouldn’t be as bad”? If you were another nurse in the clinic, how would you respond to Isabella’s comment?

Paragraph 1

Health education plays a central role in health promotion. This is because in order to promote healthy living, it is important for individuals to understand why they are engaging in healthy behavior. For example, for an individual to go out of their way to become physically active and avoid junk food, they should have an incentive to do so. Health education provides this incentive as individuals learn of the association between a sedentary lifestyle/ junk food and diseases like diabetes and obesity.  The nursing process is inherently tied to patient health education. This is because part of the nursing duties is to fight for patient advocacy. This means that nurses should ensure that their patients are properly informed about their health in order to make health-centered decisions. A contemporary issue that a family may experience today is a family struggling with obesity. The nurse can address the issue by first meeting with the family together, and then with each member individually. The nurse should focus on health education and discuss the implications of obesity, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. They should inform the family about how much they can positively affect their lives through the addition of regular exercise and healthy eating habits. A critical role of the nurse is to develop realistic health goals for the family and to provide a real plan that can help the family to achieve these goals.

Paragraph 2

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (2018b), health promotion is “the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve their health” (para 1). Health education is defined as “any combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes” (World Health Organization [WHO], 2018a, para 1). Nurses are actively involved in both health promotion and health education, providing education that is necessary to help patients achieve control over the promotion of their own health. Similar to all other nursing functions, health education is provided by using the nursing process. The nurse will assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate to provide the proper health education to the patients. This process can vary from person to person, but the basic foundation stays the same. Some patients have to have revisions so it can get out of order. An acronym we learned in nursing school for the nursing process is ADPIE. It’s really stuck with me over the years, making it easy to remember. A Contemporary issue that many faces globally includes hurricane’s, and forest fires. Even though these can’t be prevented, there are plans that can be devised, resources that can be offered, and tools that can be used to assist with preparation and help to work toward achieving wellness goals. Some local issues some patients face can include, environmental issues like illicit drugs or a high crime neighborhood, lack of transportation making it hard to get to their appointments.
