Bisphenol A

The first synthetic plastic was created in 1907 by chemist Leo Baekeland, who called this liquid resin Bakelite. By the 1920s, the plastic craze was in full gear. By 1939, petroleum companies were introducing nylons. In the 1940s and 50s, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), plastic wrap and nonstick surfaces were developed. During this same time, Bisphenol A (BPA) became a key component of hard plastics and can still be found in the lining of cans and polycarbonates today. Currently, the U.S. produces approximately 2 billion tons of BPA per year; however, Canada recently ruled that BPA is toxic to both human and environmental health.

Primary Task Response: Within the Discussion Board area, write 400–500 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:

  • What are some possible detrimental health effects associated with BPA?
  • Explain the position of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding BPA.
  • What is the position of your state government regarding BPA?
  • Do you feel that BPA should be more tightly regulated in the US? Why or why not?

Capital Budgeting Question

Assignment 2: Discussion Question

The finance department of a large corporation has evaluated a possible capital project using the NPV method, the Payback Method, and the IRR method.  The analysts are puzzled, since the NPV indicated rejection, but the IRR and Payback methods both indicated acceptance. Explain why this conflicting situation might occur and what conclusions the analyst should accept, indicating the shortcomings and the advantages of each method.  Assuming the data is correct, which method will most likely provide the most accurate decisions and why?

By Saturday, November 2, 2013, I need an answer to the question by 10:30am, CDT on the aforementioned date. The answer should be in APA style, no copies, but must be original.  I am willing to pay $10.00 for a detailed answer to the questions in the previous paragraph.

Ethics and Critical Thinking

Select a provided ethical scenario or choose one from section IV of Thinking Critically

Analyze your chosen scenario from a critical thinking perspective.

  • What is the moral responsibility of all participants?
  • What are the stakeholders’ moral failings?
  • What ideals or obligations are in conflict?
  • What is the best outcome, given the consequences?

Write a brief reflection of your analysis by describing the relationship between critical thinking and ethics.

Note. Remember that this should be based on critical thinking, not on your personal opinion.

microeconomics-

Market efficiencies and inefficiencies happen all around us. Consider the definition of perfect competition and give an example from your personal life.

Now, consider the four sources of market failure and examine how each led to an inefficient allocation of resources. Take a moment to look around you and give an example for each of the four sources of market failure. Why do you feel these are good examples?
