Ashford 2: – Week 1 – Discussion 1

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.

Socialism   and Communism

Discuss all of the following questions using examples from the text and providing your own original analysis: How are socialism and communism alike? How are they      different? What accounted for the rising popularity of both      Socialist and Communist ideals? How did strike actions affect European societies during      this period? What did the average European think of socialism and      communism? What role did socialism and communism play in the First      World War? What effect did socialism and communism have on      European society during this period?

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts by Day 7.

Carefully review the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate this Discussion Thread.

Human Health Services

Required Text
Mandell, B.R. & Schram, B.  (2012).  An introduction to human services: Policy and practice (8th ed.).  Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson.  ISBN: 9780205838851

Discussion 1

at least 250 words–please refer to textbook

Because human services work often involves direct client interaction, there are times when the values of the worker differ from those of their clients. In these circumstances, ethical dilemmas tend to arise. Review the case examples and current ethical conflicts presented in Chapter 5 of your textbook. Choose (1) case study and (1) ethical conflict to discuss, and present the dilemmas involved in each case. As a human services professional, how would you handle these situations? How would you balance your values as a professional with a client’s needs?

Discussion 2

at least 250 words–see attachment for table

To work in the field of human services, individuals must possess a unique blend of personal and professional values, skills, and knowledge. Using Table 4.1 as a reference, provide an overview of the structure and content of the helping relationship. Discuss the characteristics of an effective human service worker in relation to the A.S.K. pyramid, describe how each of these levels of the pyramid are of equal importance in human services, and explain how this differs from other fields.  How would clients be disadvantaged, for example, by an unsympathetic, inflexible, unskilled worker?

Philosophy (Homework)

Attached is my homework for a philosophy class. Please make sure to answer all the questions correctly and completely.

Please discuss two new legislative motions that have occurred in the last 60 days using the link below.

https://www.osha.gov/whatsnew.html

A minimum of four sentences is required and the response must provide enough information for the other readers to understand the exact legislative motion referenced. Provide what the measure will do. The reader must know the topic and the action taken in regards to that topic. Anything listed by others prior to your post is off limits. We want a variety of information posted. This is a way to keep us aware of the current legislative activities in relation to OSH management.

Juvenile Justice Case Study

Ben is a high school senior who has struggled in school throughout much of his academic career. A combination of low grades and inappropriate friends seemed to put him on a path to delinquency early in life. In grade school, he started out doing quite well and even dreaming of being a police officer, but family issues and the family’s lack of positive attitudes about education seem to have finally caught up with him. Ben’s father has been in and out of jail for Ben’s entire life, and when the father is home, he is not supportive of Ben’s academics and seems only to cause problems.

Beginning in seventh grade, Ben began hanging out with a tough crowd. They frequently shoplifted and smoked marijuana. As the years went by, they progressed to prescription pills and harder drugs like crack. In order to pay for his new drug habit, Ben has broken into many of the homes of his former middle-class friends. His attitude is very cavalier when he discusses the robberies. He feels the families he stole from did not need the money or the items he stole. They are financially well off enough to buy replacements.

The teachers at Ben’s school are worried that this once bright and optimistic child will never straighten his life out. They are afraid that his friends and family will keep him from attaining the dreams he once had. It is a story they are all too familiar with and fight to stop or prevent every day.

Provide an analysis of this case study by addressing the following questions:

Which theories of delinquency are evident in Ben’s story? How did the theories explain or predict Ben’s situation and behavior?

How has Ben overcome the concepts of labeling theory and the looking-glass self in this story?

What methods might Ben’s teachers use to help turn him around? Provide basis and support for your suggestions from the theories introduced in this module and in Chapter 4 of your text.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

3-4 pages in length, not including title and reference pages

Formatted according to the CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements

Cite a minimum of two scholarly academic peer-reviewed journal articles, books, and textbooks to support your responses that are not provided in the course. The CSU-Global Library is a great place to find these scholarly sources.

EDU 655 Week 2 – Assignment 2 Critical Thinking Questions

Ashford 3: – Week 2 – Assignment 2

Critical Thinking Questions: Week 2

Read Chapters 4, 5, and 6 from Trends and Issues in Instructional Design and Technology. You will then complete two Critical Thinking Questions from each chapter. Your answers must include at least two references in addition to the course text. Each question should be addressed with a minimum of 50 words.

Chapter 4 – Psychological Foundations in Instructional Design

Skinner believed that learning could be understood,      explained, and predicted entirely on the basis of observable events. Do      you agree or disagree with this theory? Explain.  Gallwey’s Inner Game of Tennis was a sports      psychology book published in 1972, focused on the fact that, as Gallwey      wrote, “Every game is composed of two parts, an outer game and an      inner game.” The former is played against opponents; the latter is      played not against, but within the mind of the player, and its principal      obstacles are self-doubt and anxiety. Explain this basic premise in terms      of information processing theory. What are some techniques to assist      learners in processing information?  Compare and contrast the way you’re learning in this      course from an “Information Processing Theory” perspective with      a “Constructivism” perspective. Explain which theory seems to      more accurately describe your experience.

Chapter 5 – Constructivism in Practical and Historical Context

How is the theory of Constructivism like the process of      constructing a building? Who are the different members of the community      that must collaborate and negotiate? How do the planner and architects act      as “meaning makers”? How are the end results similar/different      in each scenario?  What does the author mean by “authentic”      activities? Why is that important?  Considering the potential risks and benefits of      employing Constructivist educational theory in the development of a      course, what are some of the key ways you would mitigate the down-side and      maximize the up-side?

Chapter 6 – The Learning Sciences: Where They Came From and What it Means for Instructional Designers

Explain how the technological revolution impacted the      cognitive revolution. Which do you think has had a larger impact on education?      Why?  The advances in learning theory outlined in this      chapter are relatively recent in human history, and yet one premise that      needed to be developed before these ideas could emerge was that learning      is not one-way, but rather it is an interactive process. As intuitive as      that idea might sound, why do you think it is fairly recent of a      revelation? What sort of cultural characteristics may have held this idea      back?  Do you think that research on thinking, processes or      environment has had the most impact on the evolution of instructional      design? Explain.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.
