Assignment 1: The Effects of War and Peace on Foreign Aid
Due Week 4 and worth 200 points

Use the Internet to research one (1) developing nation of your choice. Your research should include an examination of the effects that war and peace have on the distribution of foreign aid, as well as the material covered by the Webtext and lectures in Weeks 1 through 3.

Write a three to four (3-4) page research paper in which you: Assess the positive and negative effects that peace and war, respectively, have on the distribution of foreign aid in the developing country that you have selected. Support your response with concrete examples of each of the results that you have cited. Analyze the specific actions that the leadership of the selected country has taken, through the use of its foreign aid from donor nations and international lending institutions, to relieve the severe problems caused by warfare. Discuss whether or not the extension of foreign aid has successfully reduced poverty and the incidence of warfare in the selected country. Support your response with examples. Discussion: Conflict as a Tool for Administration

Most people do not like conflict; yet human services organizations are likely to experience it. For example, if organizational leadership changes procedures and practices for delivering human services, the change might cause conflict among staff. Human services administrators must develop strategies to address the multiple dimensions of conflict. Human services administrators may perceive conflict as an organizational liability or as a resource. Transforming negative aspects of conflict into something positive is an important skill for human services administrators. When used wisely, conflict can facilitate productivity and creativity among service providers and other staff within the organization.

For the Discussion, view this week’s Graphic Novel in the Learning Resources. Listen to the human services administrators as they discuss their professional experiences in managing conflict. Think about how you might approach conflict if you were in the situation described. Finally, reflect on your thoughts about using conflict as a tool for administration. 

Post a description of the human services administrator and the conflict situation in the novel and how you, as a human services administrator, might approach conflict in the selected situation to facilitate productivity and creativity. Be specific. Finally, explain any insights you had or conclusions you drew related to using conflict as a tool for human services administration.

Section A: How is a fact different from an opinion? What is the difference between an objective and a subjective claim? Explain the theory of cultural relativism. If you must quote, just include a parenthetical citation at the end of the quote, like this: “(Author Name, Book Title, Page Number).” There is no need to provide a bibliography. 

Do not go significantly over or under the word limit. Going significantly over is an indication that you were not able to summarize the material in the amount of words given, and going significantly under is an indication that you did not need the extra words due to your summary already including everything that is necessary to adequately articulate the positions.
