Assignment #2 Assessment

Case II: Linda

Linda is a 46 year old female who has been referred to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) by her employer due to performance problems.  Linda works as a nurse in an assisted living facility for aging adults, and has been consistently late to work, or absent on two or more days per week for the past month.  During her interview with the social worker at the EAP, she states that her absenteeism is due to problems she is having at home. She states she has been married to Steve, also 46, for 25 years, and they three daughters together, ages 23, 20, and 16.  She claims that Steve is physically and emotionally abusive towards her, due to the stress of his job, his drinking, and their recent financial problems.  Linda states that living with Steve has caused her to feel anxious and worried all the time.  She has considered leaving, but states she does not have enough money, and has nowhere to go. She stated that she also suspects Steve is having an affair, which is causing her to be so upset she is having daily headaches and vomiting.

discussion forum 96

1) Recall a recent situation (most likely prior to shelter-in-place) with a friend, significant other, or relative where you think there may have been multiple interpretations of their behavior. For instance, a family member might have been distracted the last time you chatted, a friend could have sent a text message that was too short, or a significant other may have seemed angry over an issue.

2) Construct/develop a perception check of the situation (an actual statement you could say to someone). For example:

“While we were out for coffee yesterday, I noticed that you kept checking your phone (behavior description). I am not sure if you were expecting an important call or text (interpretation #1), or if I was simply talking for too long (interpretation #2). Can you let me know what was going on (request for clarification)?

3) IF POSSIBLE: Connect with the person and try out your perception check statement.

In the discussion forum, please respond to the following:

{Describe and Reflect}:

  • What was the situation that prompted you to want to do a perception check? (give us some context)
  • What was your perception checking statement? (Note: Actually tell us the message that you used and label all the parts, as in the above example)
  • If you were able to actually try it: what happened?
  • What do you find to be the challenging about this “perception-checking” skills practice? How do you feel about trying this type of perception-checking messaging skill in your future relationships?

(Expected word count = approximately 300 words)

Performance   in Drama and Poetry

All literature involves some kind of performance which is intended for an audience. Sometimes, however, the performative quality of a work (i.e., the fact that it is being presented to an audience) is more obvious than at others. Drama and poetry, for example, tend to emphasize overt performance more than do short stories, which more often are read silently and in solitude.

How is the more direct performative aspect of drama and/or poetry reflected in these forms? (Consider for example, each genre’s uses of literary structure, language, technique, and style.) How do these literary elements affect your reading experience?

In your post, identify key qualities of drama and poetry which emphasize their performative qualities. Discuss how these characteristics shape your reading response. Support your views with at least one example of a dramatic text and one example of a poem.

Initial posts must be 200 to 300 words in length and posted by Day 3. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. In your response, indicate what you have learned from your classmates’ answers and share how their responses have improved your understanding of literature, literary devices, and textual analysis. Be specific in your responses. Response posts must be 125 to 200 words in length and posted by Day 7.

Ethical   Leadership

Companies have become increasingly aware of the advantages that being ethically conscious have to offer, especially in the global economy. Using the overview of ethical leadership provided in this week’s lecture and readings, in what way can ethical business practices increase organizational competitiveness in their respective industries and help to further substantiate the notion that an ethical culture is good for business? Conversely, how does unethical leadership adversely affect the organization’s bottom line? What impact can a leader’s position on ethics have on the culture of an organization?

Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts.

Social Groups

There are a lot of different kinds of social groups in the United States such as clubs, fraternities, gangs, counterculture groups, and online communities. Identify a social group that you are part of, and then discuss which of the social control mechanisms (mentioned in Section 8.4 of the textbook) are applied in your group. Why do you think these forms of social control are effective?

annotated bibliography 823

Task: Create an annotated bibliography of four sources that could be used for your research project, including at least two articles from scholarly journals.

Length: Four citations, each with an annotation of 150 +/- 25 words (125-175 words each). The entire completed assignment should be at least 600 words.

Sources: Four sources related to your research question, including at least two from scholarly journal articles. All four sources should be high-quality sources that you can use in your research project. Refer to Week 3: Selecting Sources Wisely. You may decide to use some or all of the sources that you posted in Week 3, Discussion 1: Identifying and Evaluating Sources.

Due date and grading: This assignment is due by the end of Week 4. This assignment will be graded with a rubric and will count for 20% of your course grade. To view the grading rubric, access the assignment through the Assignments area of the classroom.

Outcomes you should achieve by completing this assignment

The annotated bibliography contributes to the research project by helping you collect and analyze your sources. The outcomes for this assignment are listed below, with the associated course outcomes in parentheses:

  • Identify valid and reliable sources that can be used in the composition of a research paper (Course outcome 4)
  • Explain the nature of selected sources and their relevance of sources to the research paper (Course outcome 4)
  • Set up an annotated bibliography in APA format (Course outcome 4)
  • Demonstrate accurate grammar and mechanics in writing (Course outcome 3)

Topic

The annotated bibliography is part of your research project, which examines a current issue or event in the news from the perspective of your field of study. The annotated bibliography builds on your work from the first few weeks of class selecting an appropriate topic and then developing a more focused research question. Indicate your research question at the top of your annotated bibliography, just below the title.

What to do

Following the explanation in the videos posted in class (The Annotated Bibliography) and the Sample Annotated Bibliography, create an annotated bibliography of four sources. For each source, include:

  • Reference citation in APA format
  • Annotation of 150 ±25 words, formatted in a single paragraph, with
    • summary
    • evaluation
    • use

You may (but do not have to) use CiteFast to create your reference citations. If you use CiteFast, be sure to check for accuracy and make any necessary corrections.

Formatting your assignment

Incorporate these elements of APA style:

  • Use one-inch margins.
  • Double space.
  • Use an easy-to-read font between 10-point and 12-point.
  • Reference citations should be formatted with a hanging indent.
  • Organize the annotated bibliography in alphabetical order, according to the first word of each reference citation.

Remember to include your research question below your title.

Format each annotation in a single paragraph.

Note: Title page is not required, but make sure you include your name and a title that reflects your topic at the top of the first page. Below the title, indicate your research question.
