proposing given essay topic with sources synthesis

Topic: Surviving Kinsale: Irish emigration and identity formation in early Modern Spain, 1601-40

database for sources: jstor.org

I will attach an example of this assignment down below, they are two pages, Along with my topic idea

1. Write a 40-50 word comment explaining your topic to your TA: what topic you’re interested in, what you really want to know, why you care, etc. ( I will provide you with the topic)

I will provide you with a format this part should be in along with an example…

2. Find 3 secondary sources from the given database that relate to your topic. Pay attention to what you find really interesting, what is important to you, what you would like to understand better, and what you think others will find important or that they should know or understand better. In particular, observe and note the gaps, inconsistencies, contradictions, tensions, complexities, curiosities, surprises, or lack of information that you encounter: it is often the things that don’t seem to make sense that lead to the best research.

3. Annotated Bib: choose 3 secondary sources and annotate each with 3 with main idea, significance for topic and why it’s important. Include in text citations

4. Synthesis: Based on your research, reading, and thinking, what unresolved and contestable conceptual problem or issue have you identified? What questions do you have about that problem? State that conceptual problem, and then propose a question that you will explore in order to resolve the problem. What is a “conceptual problem”? It is something that makes you wonder, that doesn’t make sense to you, that piques your curiosity. It’s a conflict, contradiction, curiosity. Narrow your topic to

1 particular, preliminary research question that addresses the conceptual problem. This question is what MMW calls a Level-3 research question: an open-ended question that can be addressed, but not answered definitively, with scholarly research. Level-3 questions have more than one plausible answer grounded in scholarship. You may have one research question to start your research, and a more refined question that emerges after your research. Write 50-60 words identifying a conceptual problem or issue and proposing a preliminary, level 3 research question that addresses the issue. Note what caught your attention and curiosity and present your question.

Please make three separate pdf for the sources you use and in each PDF just include the pages that you used, doesn’t have to be the whole article. . For each source you find relevant, scan the title and copyright pages and each page that has ideas and information you may want to use. DO NOT SCAN A WHOLE ARTICLE OR BOOK–that can crash the system if you try to submit it and is unusable by your TA, which means you will need to resubmit and could accrue late penalties. Save all pages from the same source as a separate .PDF file. Name your source file: “Author’s last name_Title of Document” (can be a short version of the title as long as it correlates to the Work Cited list in a clear way). See “Guidelines for MMW Papers” for detailed instructions.

Short Paper: Women in Society

Short Paper: Women in Society

Pick a period in Western history OR a non-Western traditional society and write about the role of women in that period or society. You could, for example, examine the role of women in ancient Greek society, Roman society, medieval society, and/or in American society in antebellum South or in the industrial North before the Civil War. Or you could examine the role of women in traditional Arabic tribal society, African society, Latin American tribal society, Inuit culture, and so forth. (You can research any one of these topics through the library or by utilizing good online resources; this is a mini research project.) You can focus on one or more than one society, depending on your own interest in the research.

GOAL STATEMENT:  To find out who gets arrested for Driving Under the Influence more often in the State of Florida.

INDEPENDENT VARIABLES:  needs five variables

Gender

Select five  and relate the variable to the goal statement..I gave you one .already .you select four more

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1.What gender is arrested more often for DUI?

2.

3.

4.

5.

**NOTE:  THESE QUESTIONS ARE QUESTIONS THAT YOU ARE ASKING YOURSELF AT THIS POINT ABOUT YOUR TOPIC…THINGS THAT YOU WANT TO KNOW.

ALSO THIS IS ALL THAT GOES ON THIS PAGE!

*NOTE:  YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SELECT THE TOPIC OF DUI ARRESTS…THIS IS TO BE USED AS AN EXAMPLE ONLY…DO NOT COPY!

II.HYPOTHESES/THEORIES

H1:MALES ARE ARRESTED MORE OFTEN FOR DUI THAN FEMALES.

T1:The possible theory surrounding this hypothesis is because possibly more men frequent drinking establishments after working long hours and due to the stress of their home lives may be inclined to drink more than females thus encountering law enforcement more often while driving home; and therefore will be arrested more often than females.

You  need a hypothesis and theory for each one of  your variables..a theory is an explanation of why you believe your statement to be true.

*NOTE:  YOU WOULD CONTINUE ON CREATING HYPOTHESES AND THEORIES FOR EACH OF YOUR VARIABLES….KEEP THESE IN THE SAME ORDER AS YOUR VARIABLES AND QUESTIONS.  BASICALLY TURN YOUR QUESTIONS INTO STATEMENTS OF FACT.

III.SAMPLING PROCEDURE

This research project is being conducted to find out what types of demographic factors are involved with those who are arrested most often for driving under the influence of alcohol within the State of Florida.  This research will be descriptive in nature.  I intend to take a random sample of all DUI arrests per county.  This will be done via a computer selection process after all data is entered into a data analysis program such as SPSS or Excel.  Due to the accessibility and availability of all police reports through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and various departmental agencies,  a cover letter will be sent to all agencies within the State after obtaining prior approvals through governing bodies.    Once approvals are received, then data collection will begin.  The time frame for collection and analysis will be approximately one year.    Questionnaires will be mailed to the Chiefs of Police and County Sheriff’s so they know what data is required for analysis.    I intend to review all DUI arrest data for a period for a period of one year.    I will gather demographic data concerning gender, race, age, marital status, educational level, employment status, prior DUI convictions/arrests and any other pertinent data that will assist me in this project.

This project is intended to assist law enforcement, corrections, the judicial system and drug and alcohol treatment centers by targeting and hopefully arriving at a profile for those who may be inclined to drink and drive or perhaps have alcohol related problems.    This project will be published in an academic as well as trade journal in order to provide future assistance in treating those who have problems and may be inclined to drink, drive and become a hazard on our roadways.

RE:        Research Proposal

Dear Sir/Madam:

Hello, my name is ( your name)  and I am conducting a research project concerning demographic information on the types of people who are arrested for DUI most often within the State of Florida.  This research is being conducted in order to assist other agencies,  the law enforcement and criminal justice community in order to understand the types of people who drink and drive.  This research will be published nationally and I will be happy to furnish you a copy of the results.  I have enclosed a copy of the approval from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Attorney General’s office in Tallahassee for your review also.  I would appreciate your assistance in my data collection and am requesting all data concerning DUI arrests made for the year 1999-2000.  I have also enclosed for your convenience a copy of the questionnaire which discusses what information is needed and the format for such information.    Also enclosed for your convenience is a self-addressed envelope.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the phone number provided on this letterhead or via my email address.  Thanking you in advance for your cooperation in this very important research project.

Respectfully,

Your name

Title,

Enclosures (2)

**NOTE THIS IS HOW A FORMAL LETTER IS TO BE DESIGNED.  OBVIOUSLY YOURS WILL MAKE DIFFERENT STATEMENTS DEPENDING ON YOUR PROJECT!

V.QUESTIONNAIRE

This questionnaire is designed to obtain the most accurate response concerning the issue of Driving Under the Influence and the characteristics of those who have been arrested for DUI.  Please take a moment and fill out the following.  Thank you.

INSTRUCTIONS:   Please circle the most appropriate response to each question.

1.What is your gender?

a.maleb.female

2.

You will have questions for each of your variables and obviously a question that applies to your goal statement also.

*NOTE:  THIS QUESTIONNAIRE WOULD BE WHAT YOU WOULD GIVE OUT TO THE INDIVIDUAL IF YOU WERE COLLECTING YOUR OWN DATA.

VII.LITERATURE REVIEW

This section would contain a brief of the journal article that you read.  A literature review tells you what other research has been done on your topic.  This literature review must be done in APA format and is basically a article brief.  You are telling me what another person has said.

You must use only academic journals…not newspapers, Time Magazine, books, internet, etc.  IT MUST BE AN ACADEMIC SOURCE IN ORDER TO OBTAIN FULL CREDIT.

See below for example:

Article #1

Upon review of the article entitled “Stages of Change and Self-Efficacy for Controlling Drinking and Driving:  A Psychometric Analysis” in the Journal of Addictive Behaviors, by Elizabeth Wells-Parker, Marsha Williams, Patricia Dill and Deric Kenne (1998), volume 23, number 3, it was found that motivation to change and self-efficacy appear as interim measures of DUI intervention programs (p.353).

*NOTE:  AT THIS POINT, YOU CONTINUE ON AND TELL ME WHAT THE ARTICLE IS ABOUT…BASICALLY, YOU ARE BRIEFING THE ARTICLE IN APPROXIMATELY TWO TO THREE PAGES DOUBLE SPACED, APA FORMAT.   YOU ARE TELLING ME WHAT THE RESEARCHERS FOUND AND HOW THIS APPLIES TO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.

*** I WOULD PUT ONE ARTICLE ON EACH PAGE RATHER THAN COMBINING BOTH ARTICES INTO ONE MAJOR BRIEF.  ****

IX.DATA ANALYSIS

**  PUT ONE DATA TABLE AND YOUR ANALYSIS ON EACH PAGE….DO NOT COMBINE DATA TABLES TOGETHER.

DISTRIBUTION OF GENDER AND DUI ARRESTS

DUI Arrests

Males    1200(60%)

Females      800       (40%)

Totals2000      (100%)

The above Table supports Hypothesis H1 which states that more males are arrested for DUI than females.   The data suggests that out of a total of 2000 samples, 60% were males.

*** at this point you are probably thinking…heck I have tons of room left over.  Basically the room is there in case you want to put in tables, bar graphs, pie charts or other illustrations.  THIS IS NOT A REQUIREMENT TO HAVE EXTRA…ALL I WANT IS TO SEE YOUR DATA TABLE AND YOUR BRIEFLY WRITTEN ANALYSIS.

You will have one data table for each hypothesis/theory

X.RESEARCH FINDINGS/CONCLUSION (separate page)

Discuss your findings and if you supported your hypotheses, etc.

XI.PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED (separate page)

discuss what problems you encountered with obtaining your data if any..make something up because in real research you’d have tons of problems.

XII.REFERENCES (separate page)

APA format….authors last name (alphabetical order), first initial (year) “name of article”; Journal name Underlined, volume, etc.

As a counselor advising clients or students in career decisions, you  will use assessments and inventories to help them create career plans.  For this assignment, you will consider yourself as the client, interpret  the assessments you completed in Units 3, 4, and 6 in the Career  Exploration Workbook, and create a career plan with actionable steps.  Use your completed Career Exploration Workbook as a reference to  complete this paper.

Although you are using yourself as the client, be sure to write from  the third-person point of view. Address the following aspects in your  assignment: Client Profile

Describe the client’s identifying information such as age, race,  gender, family, work status, educational background, current educational  status, et cetera. Describe the presenting issues (as you would gather from an intake interview with yourself). Be sure to write from the third-person point of view. Results of Assessments

Personality:      16-Type Jungian Personality Test: Identify your client’s preferences (E/I, S/N, T/F, J/P). Big 5 Personality Theory: Identify your client’s scores regarding  extroversion, openness, agreeableness, neuroticism, conscientiousness. Values:       Identify your client’s top five values from the card sort. Interest Assessment:      Identify your client’s highest categories in realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. Interpretation of Assessments:      Connect the assessment results to the presenting issues. What themes emerged? Use your reflections from the Career Exploration Workbook to help you complete this section. Analyze the appropriateness of the inventories and assessments  completed in relation to the client’s developmental stage and profile. Professional Assets:      Assess your client’s training, education, and professional and volunteer experiences in relation to his or her career goals. Career Options:      Identify 2–3 job titles that match your client’s skills and interests. Describe the education and or training needed, the employment trends, and expected salary for each job. Individual Career Plan

Create a career plan for this person moving forward. Include in  your plan your client profile, goals, and an action plan. Use an example  career plan from your text or find one that you like on your own. Personal Reflection

Describe what you learned about yourself in this exercise and how you will use this knowledge in your specialization. As part of your reflection, assess your professional limitations as a career counselor.

Your paper should be 4–6 pages with at least four references, written  in third-person point of view, and following APA format. Include your  completed Career Exploration Workbook as a supplement to this  assignment. Review the Individual Career Plan Scoring Guide for the  detailed grading expectations of this assignment.

week 2 unit 1 assignment clinical research evaluation
