Final Paper

In this course, we look at classical ethical theories of utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. We also examine different perspectives on ethical issues introduced by relativism, ethical egoism, and emotivism. For this paper, you will apply these theories and perspectives to a current issue, selected from the list of issues below.

Choose one of the ethical issues from the list below to research and write about. It is recommended that you choose a topic that you are familiar with or that you have thought about previously. For example, you might choose an issue that either worries you or enrages you, you might choose one that you have worked on, or you might choose one that relates to recent events in your community.

In your paper, you will apply the ethical theories and perspectives to the issue that you select. You do not have to use all six, but you should apply at least two ethical theories and at least one ethical perspective in your paper. Make sure that you write primarily on ethical topics and concepts; do not get distracted by doing analyses that apply political, economic, religious, or legal perspectives. Describe, compare, and apply the ethical theories and perspectives to the topics. Explain how the theories and perspectives would analyze the issue. What are the ethical issues? Where are there breaches of ethical behavior? How could each theory help us think about what would constitute virtuous or ethical behavior?

The paper must be eight to ten pages in length (excluding title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least five scholarly resources from the Ashford University Library other than the textbook to support your claims. Cite your sources within the text of your paper and on the reference page. In addition to the final portion of the paper, each student will put together a powerpoint presentation summarizing all aspects of the project (ie. Literature Review, Field Work, Critical Analysis and Recommendations). Students should include narration in the “notes” section of the powerpoint slide and SUBMIT BOTH THE WRITTEN PAPER AND THE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION INTO THE CANVAS LINK FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.

You are the newly appointed department manager. Your department has not been performing well, and you have been investigating why. You soon realize that the firm has had no formal performance appraisal system. Supervisors that need to do a better job have not been receiving any kind of formal feedback.

To correct this situation, you will begin by creating a performance grading form that will be used to assess the front-line supervisor’s performance. Create a form that includes areas the supervisors should be graded on and the relative weight or importance assigned to each category. For example, should 30% of the weight be assigned to communication skills versus 20% for coaching skills?

You want to make sure that the grading form reflects what you feel are the indicators of a good front-line supervisor’s performance.

Create the form including the relative weights of each category and the grading scale to use (for example, for grading criteria you could use 1–9; low, mid, or high; or poor, mediocre, average, or excellent). Justify why you chose those criteria and why you assigned particular weights.

Your process team has been requested to identify technology that would be beneficial to manufacturing and service operations clients (e.g., SBS Seating and MLD Hospital). Consider the following:  SBS Seating manufactures leather seating that consists      of various components, such as frames; electrical parts (heating and      comfort features); padding; and leather sewing (final assembly). It      currently uses basic accounting software and high-end manufacturing plant      machinery in its operations. MLD Hospital has little or no specific technology tools      pertaining to inventory management. Walton’s Department Store: a growing retail concern      that is interested in providing low cost products and is relying on      technological innovation to optimize costs. 

Your task is to research and identify appropriate tools for the clients listed above, developing a review of potential technologies (software and hardware) that may be appropriate for each industry area and client in particular.
