The challenge of terrorism against the United States led the government to create the Department of Homeland Security with the hope of leveraging federal, state, and local police agencies, intelligence agencies, and immigration agencies to cooperate in communicating findings and creating joint efforts to stop threats of terrorism or confronting a terrorist attack. The current threat of terrorism has made many senators and representatives in Congress think about the United States combining all of its police agencies into one national police organization. The centralization of power would stop the discombobulated nature of the 3 government levels of police and provide a clear, overall standard on how to police not only terrorist acts but crime in general. Please answer the questions below. Give your opinion concerning the topics, and provide examples. Discuss your findings as far as any statistics that you list concerning the victims. You have an opportunity to discuss your thoughts about what options might be taken concerning victims of racial profiling. Be sure to back up your opinions with facts from cited sources. Do you believe that the establishment of terrorism as a crime that can be committed domestically has changed policing? How? Why? Provide examples. Have the number of victims of racial profiling increased over the last decade? What laws and services are available for victims of racial profiling? What other actions might be taken on behalf of victims of racial profiling? Has the Department of Homeland Security helped fight terrorism, or has it simply duplicated the efforts and jurisdictions of other agencies? How has it helped? Assignment 2: Internet-Based Psychological Interventions

With so many individuals using the Internet today, the psychology of the individual, the family, the community, and the society has changed. Some might argue that the traditional psychological theories cannot be applied and therefore psychology as an entire field needs to be revamped to incorporate the impact and the application of internet technology. As a student completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, your future career will undoubtedly incorporate the use of the Internet in very new ways. Read the following article from the AUO Library:

Ritterband, L. M., Gonder-Frederick, L., Cox, D. J., Clifton, A. D., West,
 R. W., & Borowitz, S. M. (2003). Internet interventions: In review,
in use, and into the future. Professional Psychology: Research and
 Practice, 34(5)
, 527-534.

Identify a problem area or psychological issue that could benefit from the use of an internet intervention. Now, using what you learned from the article, propose an internet intervention using the following guidelines:

  1. What problem area would the internet intervention address?
  2. Provide a general description of the proposed internet intervention.
  3. How would the effectiveness of the proposed intervention be tested?
  4. What are any legal and ethical issues related to the proposed intervention? Include the specific APA ethical standard(s) in your response.

Internet therapies are a rapidly growing segment of psychotherapeutic interventions used by clinicians today.  Telehealth, and other internet programs are currently being used to treat a burgeoning number of disorders from Major Depressive Disorder to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Internet interventions allow Psychologists to reach a greater number and diversity of clients than was previously possible.  Individuals who live in rural areas, for example, now may have greater access to care.  However, therapy can be a very complex process which may or may not translate via the internet.  Some models of therapy rely greatly on empathy and discussion of behavioral observations which may prove difficult when the client is not in the same room as the therapist.  Research into the effectiveness of internet interventions is in its infancy so it may take some time to know the efficacy of such treatments.

I want you to write a paper on the propaganda posters that all the major combatants produced in the First World War.  The advertising industry, public relations business, and the shaping of public opinion received an enormous boost as a result of the war – so much so that every historian writing about postwar Western society in the 1920s feels the need to comment upon it.
