  • Is the introductory paragraph effectively written? Does it define the issue and state an arguable thesis statement?
  • Are the main points in support of the thesis statement organized logically in the essay?
  • Does the supporting reasoning that you provide relate logically to the main point that is stated in each paragraph? Are there any ideas that are unrelated and need to be modified or deleted?
  • Are paragraphs developed effectively with relevant and current evidence from credible sources? Which paragraphs need more support?
  • Are opposing viewpoints addressed and counter-argued logically? Are there any opposing viewpoints that you have not considered but that you should include in your essay?
  • Are there paragraphs where you need to add transition words to improve coherence?
  • Is the concluding paragraph effectively written? Does it summarize the key points and restate the thesis?
  • Have you used sources appropriately? Check your essay for the use of sources, appropriate paraphrasing, and the formatting of direct quotations.
  • Have you used APA style correctly? Check for errors in APA in-text citations. Check to make sure in-text citations and reference citations correspond. Check for errors in formatting of reference citations.

Need help today due for Psychology assignment

1Application: Hypocrisy and Behavior Change

The research in the textbook shows a number of ways in which dissonance causes people to rationalize or justify discrepant behavior. Whereas rationalization can prevent people from learning from their mistakes, dissonance can also be used to motivate people to make changes that benefit them and society (i.e., pro-social behavior). An example of this can be found in the research on using hypocrisy to induce dissonance and behavior change.

To prepare for this assignment:

Read the paper by Stone and colleagues (1994), paying particular attention to the use of hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance to motivate people to practice safe sex. Article: Stone, J., Aronson, E., Crain, A. L., Winslow, M. P., & Fried, C. B. (1994). Inducing hypocrisy as a means of encouraging young adults to use condoms. Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, 20(1), 116–128.

Think of the hypocrisy paradigm, pay particular attention to how you would define and explain it, and consider ways that dissonance in hypocrisy differs from dissonance in an induced compliance paradigm.

Think about how researchers test the effect of hypocrisy on behavior and how it can be measured.

Consider the limitations in the Stone, et al., study and think about how you might avoid them.

Then think about designing an induction of hypocrisy that would motivate people to use sunscreen.

The assignment (1–3 pages):

Briefly define and explain the hypocrisy paradigm. How does the dissonance in hypocrisy differ from the dissonance in the induced compliance paradigm? Why do the researchers predict that hypocrisy motivates people to change their behavior rather than their attitudes?

Explain how the researchers tested the effect of hypocrisy on behavior change in this study. Specifically, describe who the subjects were, what they did in each condition of the study, and how behavior change was measured. Summarize the results of the study.

Assess and explain the problems you see with the study and the conclusions drawn by the researchers. Describe two limitations to the study and explain how they impact the results.

Design an induction of hypocrisy to motivate people to use sunscreen more often when they spend time in the sun. Describe who the target individuals would be and then explain how you would get them to make a public commitment to the use of sunscreen and how you would make them mindful of past failures to use sunscreen. Finally, explain how you would measure their motivation to reduce dissonance by changing their behavior.

The Human Brain and Genes

NEED A 75 WORD RESPONSE TO THIS CLASSMATE REPLY TO FURTHER THE DISCUSSION

Let me first just start by saying I found this chapter to be very interesting. I think the human brain is an amazing thing. There was TONS of information and new terminology in this chapter, so please bare with me.

Genes are the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA molecules. They play a huge role in what we get from our parents; like what eye color or hair color we have. Behavioral geneticists explain our human differences by studying our differences and comparing the effects of what is heredity and what is a reaction from our environment or things around us.

Nature and nurture kind of work together as a part of us, as humans need to adapt to certain things. Heredity and environment are what has an effect on who we are, and how we act. The traits that are passed down to us from our parents are the building blocks of our personality. Physical characteristics such as height, weight, color of eye and skin, social and intellectual behavior are determined by heredity (AdminEssays 2013). Environment can mean several different things. Environment as inside the women’s womb before birth, and social environment. Home atmosphere, parental love and affection, association with sibling, neighbors, peers, and teachers (AdminEssays 2013) can be examples of social environment. These factors will have a great effect on the personality the human forms and builds through childhood.

Evolutionary psychologists use natural selection to explain behavior tendencies by relating Charles Darwin’s natural selection theory to the mental process of human beings. I do agree with this because I think that in order to reproduce, we have find a person who best fits our wants and needs.

columbian exchange 250-300 word 2 paragraph essay

Background to the assignment: “Globalization” is one of the key ideas of our time. What most people don’t realize, however, is that we haven’t just discovered globalization with the rise of the Internet. The entire modern age (roughly the last 500 years) has been a period of gradual globalization. In this assignment, you will be exploring this issue in greater detail as you look at the global culture that began to emerge during the Age of Discovery.

Description of the assignment: Go online and read about the “Columbian Exchange.” In a two-paragraph essay, first describe in your own words what this term refers to. Be brief, but thorough, in defining the kinds of things that were “exchanged” during the period of European exploration. In a second paragraph, discuss how your own individual life has been impacted by the Columbian Exchange. What kinds of things do you take for granted that are a direct result of this first great period of globalization? Your answer should be between 250-300 words. (Include your word count.) Value = 50 points.

due Sunday 11:59pm central time. Late work not accepted

Read the following article by Jay Feldman and answer the questions that follow:

There was a time in the not so distant past when many, if not most, publicly held corporations, including the one for which I worked, embraced in their mission statements, codes of conduct and similar pronouncements a responsibility to serve multiple stakeholders: their stockholders, of course, but also their employees as well as customers, suppliers and the community in which they operated. Today, all too many companies, in deed and often in word, articulate a single-minded obligation to serve only their investors by focusing exclusively on profitability.

As a result, we have witnessed corporate downsizings and outsourcing of jobs; restructuring of pension plans or their complete termination; reductions in health care benefits; and wage stagnation in spite of increased productivity. Domestic suppliers have been squeezed or, more often, replaced by cheap foreign sources. Customers seeking service are confronted with automated answering machines and foreign call centers. Environmental concerns are viewed as obstacles to profitability.

At the same time, the senior managers of these enterprises have seen their compensation grow exponentially as a reward for their perceived contributions to the bottom line.

Sadly, what these corporations fail to appreciate is how their obsession with the bottom line is shrinking their markets, both domestic and foreign. The large number of people unemployed, underemployed, afraid of losing their jobs or without the means to pay all their bills perpetuates the present worldwide economic crisis.

Add to this the unwillingness of businesses to pay their fair share of taxes to support education, health care and the infrastructure that is critical to their success. In the end, these self-serving practices endanger the very profitability their practitioners seek to enhance.

We need to return to the earlier model of the corporation as a good citizen. Doing so can help ensure the long-term viability of our free enterprise system.

Considering the passage above, write a paper of 3–4 pages that addresses the following:

1. Discuss Alfred North Whitehead’s statement: “What is morality in any given time and place? It is what the majority then and there happen to like and immorality is what they dislike.” Consider the following questions as guide:

a.  Businesses can have ethical standards, but Businesses are not moral agents. Do you agree or disagree?

b.  Is it true that the “bottom line” of business is profit and profit alone?

c.  In business, are there other less tangible goals that are intrinsic to and just as important as making money?

d.  Why should we be moral as individuals?

e.  Why should a corporation or organization be moral?

2. How would you apply the first formulation of Kant’s categorical imperative to a Business environment?

Consider deontological ethics, teleological ethics, moral objectivism, and ethical relativism in your argument. Provide at least 3 valid reasons to support your argument. Also, be sure to include the following in your paper:

Identify your argument—or thesis statement—within the introduction of your paper.

Include definitions of utilitarianism, Categorical Imperatives, Process Philosophy, moral relativism, moral absolutism, ethical relativism, moral objectivism, deontological ethics, and teleological ethics.

Consider morality and ethics from the perspective of Alfred North Whitehead’s process philosophy, and Immanuel Kant’s universal categorical imperative. Could you argue that Businesses can have ethical standards, despite the fact that Businesses are not moral agents? Why or why not? Please explain.

Distinguish between descriptive and normative definitions of morality

  • Use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • You may find that you change your mind on the issue as you are writing your paper. That is fine, but be sure to present your ultimate decision at the beginning of the paper, and stick to it consistently throughout. This may require that you go back and change the first few paragraphs that contain your thesis statement.
  • Your argument should be clear, concise, and supported with logically valid claims.

Please submit your assignment.

question 002

           ENGLISH 123 — MYTHOLOGY

Choose TWO of the following questions, and respond to each in an essay of not more than 600 words (approximately two typewritten pages for each question). Be specific in your responses and work beyond generalities into a discussion that shows your familiarity with our texts.  ESSENTIAL NOTE:  You are not simply reporting on a myth, but making sense of it through your own, careful analysis.

Please label each question

Special Note:  Read the questions carefully.  Each question asks that you draw a conclusion following your discussion to allow you to synthesize the material and formulate your own insights. (You need not parrot back your response; i.e., This theme is significant because . . . .  Your paper should make apparent why you deem the subject important enough to write about, since you will focus on what matters most, in your estimation, in these myths.)

ANSWER ANY TWO OF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS. Your essay should not total more than four pages.

  1. You must legally defend Dr. Victor Frankenstein against his monster in a court of law. The monster is making claims of malpractice, negligence, and seeks physical and emotional damages, as well. What is the best defense you could mount on behalf of the doctor? What counter-arguments might you hear from the prosecutor? (It’s up to you whether you portray yourself as a competent defense attorney or as incompetent or biased, but you must remain consistent in your point of view and leave the reader with a clear idea as to the actual character of Dr. Frankenstein as portrayed in Shelley’s novel. As always when you write, be specific and use support from the text.)
  1. Which culture’s mythology resonated with you more closely than the others, and why? Select a myth or theme that spoke to you in some unexpected way. Describe what it means to you in the context of your life and explain why it proved so valuable. What did you learn from it? Give specific examples from the texts to support your analysis, conveying the reasons that your contemporaries might still benefit from the study and understanding of that culture’s mythology.
  1. Why do the Greek gods and goddess inflict such misery upon those who worship them? And why did human beings hail the Immortals, since they seemed to abuse their powers and positions? Explain why the tales of the gods have been told and retold throughout the centuries, given their apparent flaws.  What character traits most impressed you, and what behaviors shocked you? What do we learn from Greek mythology as we face life in the modern world? As always, be specific and convey clearly to the reader the reasons for your response. Also, provide pertinent support from our texts.
  1. Discuss the traditions represented in The Ways of My Grandmothers and how they differ from ways of life in modern society. Which ways of traditional life would be the hardest for modern society to adapt to, and why? Which traditions would be the most appealing? What single aspect of traditional life, now lost, do you most mourn? How might we benefit if we reintegrated it into our lives today? Be sure to offer specifics with plenty of support from the text.

You must scrupulously cite your sources to avoid Plagiarism. Enclose any direct quotations in quotation marks and acknowledge ideas that are not your own.
