Case Study Guidelines

Research Design:

In general, case studies are in-depth studies of one or a few individuals, & can be very valuable when investigating a phenomenon that is relatively rare, or when we want to do an in-depth history on a person. Of course, any case study you would carry out for your lab assignment can’t be as extensive or in-depth as a formal research study.

1.Data collection:

Gather information about your participant from as many sources as are available to you. You could interview your participant, and/or his or her family or friends. Include your own observations, the participant’s self-report of their experience. (Powell’s example, I once interviewed my grandfather and documented his experience in the Military)

you could interview the participant &/or their family, & add your own observations.

2.Data Analysis:

Summarize the results of your interviews & observations into a description of the participant. For the Results section of your lab report, this would be about a 300 word summary. The focus of your summary depends on the topic question (eg in a case study of World War II and my grandfathers experience).

make sure that you obtain your participant’s consent to do this case study, do make sure that you protect the participant’s confidentiality in presenting the case. It is not enough to substitute their name with a pseudonym. Also avoid overly specific details & descriptors of occupation, etc. that might compromise your participant’s anonymity. (For example, “J.W., a college instructor in Psychology who is a therapist & a writer…”).

3. Presentation of your results in a Research Report:

Results section. Simply present the person, their symptoms, diagnosis & treatment (if applicable). No citations would occur here, since you are describing your results.

4.Discussion

Finally, in the Discussion section, interpret your participant’s case from the perspective of current research &/or theory, including theory & research discussed in your Introduction, & other research or theory you may have found that would help you understand your case study.

Note: This assignment requires me to conduct an original case study of a special individual with any issue. No references are allowed because it is not a research paper.

Individual-Reflection-Handling-Difficult-Conversations

Need a tutor who can write on a MASTERS LEVEL. NO PLAGIARISM, APA FORMAT, SCHOLARLY REFERENCES ONLY!

Assignment: Individual Reflection: Handling Difficult Conversations

What is the cost of avoiding a difficult or stressful conversation? At the workplace, avoiding such conversations can lead to absenteeism, low morale, and—in some circumstances—costly litigation. Avoiding difficult conversations can also indulge the worst behaviors in uncooperative colleagues, partners, and employees: gossip, infighting, and retaliation that distract the organization from its purpose and goals. Such avoidance of conflict can sap motivation and push talented employees out the door. Managers need to be familiar with processes for approaching difficult conversations, and how to learn from previous experiences to improve this important skill.

As your Learning Resources have reflected (Edmondson & Smith, 2006; Weeks, 2001), engaging in difficult conversations can be one of the more difficult responsibilities of a manager. Difficult conversations involving money, performance, and expectations are inevitable in the workplace, so managers need to know how to approach them effectively whether they are delivering negative feedback and bad news, de-escalating unhealthy conflict between colleagues, or working through an organizational crisis.

To prepare for this Individual Reflection, recall a difficult face to face conversation that you have had in a professional setting where you had to give or receive critical feedback. Reflect on whether you were prepared for the conversation, the positive and negative elements of the conversation, and how it ended. Also, reflect on the steps you initiated after the conversation occurred.

BY DAY 7

Submit a 2- to 3-page account of a difficult conversation you had in a professional context. Make sure you include the following:

  • First, briefly describe the circumstances of a difficult face-to-face conversation you have had in a professional setting. Then recount the specific actions you took to try to resolve the situation, and explain whether or not those actions were effective and why.
  • Applying the learning resources from the week, analyze the difficult conversation and explain what it taught you about your own approach to communication, and the strategies that would help you improve your communication skills. Be sure to provide a rationale as to why you think these strategies would be effective for you and lead to better results in these types of circumstances.
  • Finally, if you were to face a similar difficult conversation today, explain how you would prepare for it. Use the weekly Learning Resources and, where appropriate, your personal and professional experiences to support conclusions.

Going to upload a example of how it should look like. My theory I chose is Work and Retirement on pg 528 and 529.

  1. Name one concept, theory, or research finding that you learned from this week’s reading. You are to provide the page number from where you retrieved this information. (.25 x 2 = .5)
  1. Provide a background of the theory/concept, covering the name of theory, theorist, or concept, and what the theory says about human development or behavior. (.25)
  1. Describe an illustrative example of this theory concept in everyday life. The illustrative example should provide sufficient detail and link your example to specific course concepts. Use examples from your personal experiences, informal observations of those around you, or the media. (.25)
  1. In Chapter 16 we are introduced to Late adulthood. Please read the following ethical dilemma and address each questions that follows. (1 point)

“In June, 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that terminally ill people do not have a constitutional right to doctor assisted suicide”.

In January 2006, the U.S Supreme Court ruled that the Bush administration’s attempts to stop Oregon doctors from prescribing lethal doses were improper. The immediate legal impact of the Court’s ruling is clear. Oregon doctors may continue to prescribe lethal doses without fear of federal penalty.

At the time of this writing, physician-assisted suicide was legal in four states in the United States: Oregon, Washington, Vermont and Montana. It is also legal in some other countries. In three states in the United States, there are barriers to use this type of suicide. For example, Pamela J. Miller (2000, p. 264) describes the process in the state of Oregon:

To qualify to receive a prescription for medication to end life, the person must be terminally ill with six months or less to live, and a second physician’s opinion on diagnosis and prognosis is required. After the first oral request to start the process, a 15-day waiting period begins. A mental health consultation is not required, although either physician can request an evaluation by a psychiatrist or psychologist, and notification of family and friends is not required. A written request combined with another oral request is obtained, and a 48 hour waiting period begins. The prescription, generally barbiturates and antinausea medication, is then given to the terminally ill person and taken by mouth.” (2016, 2013 Kirst-Ashman, p. 726, Cengage Learning)

  1. Do you believe that the terminally ill have a right to die by refusing treatment?
  2. Do you believe that assisted suicide should be legalized?
  3. If you had a terminally ill close relative who was in intense pain and asked you to assist him or her in acquiring a legal does of drugs, how would you respond?
  4. Would you be willing to help or would you refuse? Why?
