5-6-pages-essay-of-French-Revolution-

The French Revolution of 1789 constituted a major step in the articulation of human rights, taking some of its inspiration from Enlightenment thinkers such as Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau and others. Indeed, the articulation of rights was part of the process of state and nation building. The rights set forth in documents such as the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen continue to shape democracies all over Europe and the world. Yet the process of putting rights into practice proved uneven and contradictory, both during the Revolution and afterwards. Discuss this issue in an essay of between 5-6 pages, drawing on your texts (The Making of the West and Sources of the Making of the West) and lectures.

We will discuss appropriate citation practice. Remember to provide citations to the specific documents in
Sources (as opposed to simply a page number –i.e. John Locke,
Second Treatise of Government, p. x in Lualdi,
Sources of the Making of the West). In text citations are OK.

When cell division goes awry

Cells are complex structures. To make the study of cells a bit easier, biologists have broken them down into three main parts which include:

  1. The plasma membrane, which acts as the protective barrier surrounding the cell.
  2. The nucleus, containing all of the genetic material of the cell.
  3. The cytoplasm, which contains all of the cell’s organelles.

In order for cells to reproduce, two types of reproduction occur: somatic cell division and reproductive cell division. Somatic cell division involves all non-germ cells that undergo mitosis. Mitosis involves producing two identical cells that contain the same number and kind of chromosomes as the cell that started the process. Reproductive cell division occurs with germ cells (sperm or oocyte) and is known as meiosis. Meiosis involves gametes that have half the number of chromosomes as compared to somatic cell division so that the number of chromosomes will not double at fertilization. Mitosis finishes after one round producing identical daughter cells whereas meiosis occurs in two stages occurring one after the other.

There are two options to this Discussion Board. Select the ONE that interests you most and write up your main post on it for this week. Visit the Discussion Board frequently and respond to your classmates as well.

Option 1: Cancer

Almost all cells in the human body go through cell division. Homeostasis occurs when a balance between cell growth and cell death is maintained. If this balance is not sustained cell division goes awry, such as in the case of cancer. All of us have had experience with cancer in some way or another in our life, as a survivor, as a friend, as a family member or as a care giver.

Research one type of cancer and discuss:

  • Symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, and survival rate.
  • Investigate any holistic approaches that are also currently used.
    • What are your feelings on this type of treatment?
    • Do you think these holistic approaches are effective by themselves, in combination with standard western medical treatments for cancer or not effective at all? Why or Why not?

Option 2: Mutations

Mutations occur when DNA is not replicated properly. Fortunately, for the most part, cells have a mechanism to correct the mutation or destroy it. Sometimes that mechanism fails and the mutation survives. Spend some time researching mutations.

  • Discuss one mutation that has a negative effect on the body
  • Find another mutation that can have a positive effect on the body.
  • For both mutations, explain how they occur: spontaneously or through a mutagenic effect, and
  • What effects do these mutations have on the individual with this condition?

Discussion Requirements and Guidelines:

Discussion responses should be on topic, original, and contribute to the quality of the discussion by making frequent informed references to lesson materials. Initial discussion responses should be around 200–300 words. Responses to your classmates or instructor do not need to be that long, but should be substantial (approximately 50 words), go beyond mere affirmation, and serve to further conversation.

To be considered for full credit, at least two or more responses to classmates that are thoughtful and advance the discussion should be made.

When you are ready to post to the Discussion Board, respond to the questions. Your responses should follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.). Your writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful. Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics. All references used should be cited and in APA style.

When-Creon-admonishes-Oedipus-at-the-end-of-Oedipus-the-King

When Creon admonishes Oedipus at the end of Oedipus the King, he asserts, “Stop this striving to be master of all. The mastery you had in life has been your fall.” In doing so, Creon depicts Oedipus as a classic tragic hero. Read one short story or poem, or watch one film that depicts the role of ambition in a hero’s demise or redemption. Make a double-columned comparison chart depicting the similarities and differences between the character and Oedipus.

And then in a well-constructed essay, consider the following questions:

1. What character traits, dramatic elements, or plot events depict the protagonist as being ambitious?

2. Does this character illustrate a moral or social code of behavior? If so, describe it.

3. What is the character’s greatest desire?

4. What ultimate price is the protagonist willing to pay to reach his/her objective?

5. Detail the outcome of the protagonist’s struggle with ambition.

6. Does the protagonist regret his/her decision? How do you know?

7. Is the protagonist ultimately redeemed or condemned for his/her choices?

8. What role does hubris play in the character’s tragic fall?

Also consider the themes of ambition, fate, blindness, family, self-destruction, and gender roles.

Final-Project-Milestone-Two-Sources-and-Thesis-Exploration-Proposal-

Please read the full description before starting assignment!

I need someone to write a 1 paragraph proposal on the trickster archetype in mythology. The proposal should cover the give an overview of the the tricksters role in mythology and whether there are good and bad tricksters. This will be the basis for my final project (please see rubric for more details).

Overview: For this milestone, you will submit some preliminary sources (MLA format) and a topic proposal for your presentation to be reviewed for feasibility and validity by your instructor. This topic is not set in stone and can be adjusted as you work on your project. Below is an example posted by my professor on dying/resurrecting deity:

Specifically the following critical elements must be addressed: – Your topic proposal should be at least one paragraph, with the inclusion of a conditional thesis. Below is an example posted by my professor on dying/resurrecting deity:

“In the project, I will discuss the myths of Inanna and Osiris, both earlier examples of the dying and resurrecting deity. I will show how they are alike—both die and come back to life—and will also discuss how their myths are different. Inanna’s myth is closely related to the seasons, but Osiris’ myth is not related to the seasons. It does, though give hope to his followers that they, too, can live in Tuat, land of the dead. Inanna returns to the upper world when she is resurrected, but Osiris must stay in the land of the dead. This myth is very widespread and is found in almost all mythoi.”

– You should submit at least two sources: a primary and a secondary source. Explain why each source is important and why it relates to your chosen topic. (This can be 1–2 sentences). You will need to give a detailed reason why each source relates to the topic of tricksters.

Notes from my professor regarding sources:

Primary sources are the original works, i.e. The Enuma Elish, the Egyptian Book of Coming Forth by Day (aka The Book of the Dead,)The Iliad, Hesiod’s “Theogony,” The Popol Vuh, and The Mabinogion (Welsh) to name a few. Do not use encyclopedias, websites, or dictionaries that summarize the myths!

Secondary sources are works written about the primary sources, i.e. commentary, analysis, etc. An example of this is Joseph’s Campbell’s work on the hero motif.

If you need further clarification, visit this site: Primary vs. Secondary Sources

I also urge you to use the Shapiro Library which can be accessed in the module.

Wikipedia and about.com are not acceptable, academic sources for college works. Also, keep in mind that sites such as Crystalinks (which catalogs myths) are also not academic, nor are personal websites published by people who are not experts in the field. Such sites as Sparks Notes, abstracts, or summaries of longer articles are also not acceptable. Encyclopedias are not college fodder, nor are dictionaries. Scholarly articles can be found via databases such as EBSCO and JSTOR, BUT make sure that the articles are full text and not abstracts. If you have questions about whether a site is reputable or not, ask me!

And some possibly helpful websites:

If you are looking for online sources, I am posting a couple of sites that might help you! Keep in mind, though, that these texts are in public domain, so the language might be a bit archaic. For example, E.A. Wallis Budge was the foremost Egyptian scholar for years, but his work was completed in in the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries. Theories might have changed since Budge’s time, but the gist of the myths remain the same. These sites contain a lot of primary sources, but I am not sure how many secondary sources would be available.

Sacred Texts

Ancient Texts

Keep in mind that your works cited sources can (and should be) works in progress. You can continue to find sources until the project is due. I listed some print sources in the discussion area–as have some students–so peruse that list. I will add to it as more “things” come to mind AND I invite you to add your input.

KEEP IN MIND: Wikipedia, about.com, Shmoop, encyclopedias, and dictionaries can be launching points to find other sources, but they are not suitable for college works. Neither are most personal sites (or sites such as Crystalinks), and pages that have several paragraphs are not in depth sources. They will not count in the number of required sources. The project needs to have accurate and reputable sources.

And last: when explaining why the source is important and how it is related to the topic, it is not enough to write, “This article is about the dying and resurrecting deity.” How does the source support your thesis? This is especially important for secondary sources.

Contract-Analysis-

Contract Analysis i will send you some example she posted so you can get an idea i will also send some pages that you will need to use to put in the contract for laws from the book.

Data-Analytics-Exercise

In this exercise, we will compare doing an analysis on the same data in Excel and SAS, and then report on our analysis. The data that we will use for this analysis is called BASEBALL, and the analysis we will do is an ANOVA.

An ANOVA is a set of statistical methods used mainly to compare the means of two or more samples. Estimates of variance are the key intermediate statistics calculated, hence the reference to variance in the title ANOVA.

Please watch the video linked to this module for detailed instructions. In general, you are going to:

  1. Open SAS
  2. Find the BASEBALL data
  3. Explore the BASEBALL data
  4. Select the ANOVA task
  5. Perform an ANOVA on the BASEBALL data looking at player position (1B, 2B, and 3B) and player salaries. Are they salaries of these three positions statistically different in the given data set?
  6. Download the “BASEBALL.xlsx” data set from this assignment (It should be the same data as is located in the SAS files).
  7. Download the “Business Memo Template.docx”.
  8. Open Excel. If you have not already done so, enable the Data Analysis tools in Excel.
  9. Open the BASEBALL.xlsx data file in Excel.
  10. Prepare the data for analysis in Excel (Excel requires the data be in columns)
  11. Perform an ANOVA on the BASEBALL data looking at player position (1B, 2B, and 3B) and player salaries. Are the salaries of these three positions statistically different in the given data set?
  12. Compare the results from both Excel and SAS.
  13. Open Word. Open the “Business Memo Template.docx” file and prepare your report. Your report should not exceed two pages, have at least one table, and one graphic. The last paragraph should be a recommendation on the pay for these players. Be creative, but use information from your analysis to support your recommendation.
  14. Save your Word file as “LastName DAX4” without the quotation marks. The file extension will be added automatically. For example, my file would be “Bohler DAX3.docx”. Again, ignore the quotation marks in the instructions.
  15. Upload your completed Business Memo to this assignment.
