The proposal was biased against students who sought degrees in areas of concentration where clearly the return of investment for those students majoring in low density fields would not be as valued in the job market or the probability of a comparable salary to match their skill sets.

Factoring in the space centers and programs located in that region, I would image the aeronautical market more than likely demanding a high output of scholarly scientists, engineers and mathematicians alike. No, I do not necessarily agree with the committees rationale for encouraging students to seek STEM degrees, but I understand their recruitment efforts to assist and guide students with declaring a major in a program that is in high demand.

This proposal alludes that STEM degrees are more important. The state legislature has gone back and forth with what the state is willing to pay for degree seeking students. According to Travis, “the state once paid for 75 percent of student’s tuition in Florida’s public colleges and universities. But dropped to less than 50 percent in recent years, as a poor economy resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in budget cuts” (Travis, 2012).

No, I do not agree with their assumption. I believe that there should be a set standard on the tuition rates for all degree programs as this would appear favorably to potential students.

Replacement Workers, the End of Labor’s Only True Weapon”

“Hostess Brand Closing for Good”

“Twinkies New Owner Shuns Unions”

Then, discuss the following questions:

    1. Do you believe that the use of replacement workers is unethical or just a good business practice. Support your answer.
    2. Do you feel that Hostess’ decision to file for bankruptcy was a result of the financial burden imposed by the strike as management claimed, or was it a way out for a struggling company that was already headed to its second trip to bankruptcy court? Please explain.
    3. The new CEO does not expect for the company to be represented by unions going forward, what strategies could management use to prevent the newly hired employees from feeling the need to become unionized?

-Quantitative-research-Fact-Sheet

Locate an online report or poll that uses a quantitative study within human services and/or the social sciences. Examples of topics could be the impact of poverty on youth education, experiences of homeless women, or veterans’ access to mental health services. Pick a topic within the field that interests you.

You will prepare a fact sheet that focuses on the article you select. Answer the following questions:

  1. What is/are the research question(s) being asked in the study?
  2. Who is the target population?
  3. What measurement tools are being used; what specifics are given regarding the methodology?
  4. What did the results show or not show?
  5. How is this applicable to something within the human services field?

Your fact sheet should contain 1-2 page(s) of content and conform to the APA format. In addition, you must create your own image (chart or graph) that aligns with a portion of the content. The fact sheet does not require APA in-text citations, but a reference list should be included that provides all of the citation information for the article. The reference sheet is not included in the page count. Include at least three scholarly references

Your facility has the following payer mix:

40% commercial insurances

25% Medicare insurance

15% Medicaid insurance

15% liability insurance

5% all others including self-pay

Write a 3-4 page report that addresses the following requirements:

Assume that for the time in question you have 2000 cases in the proportions above. (What are the proportions of the total cases for each payer?)

The average Medicare rate for each case is $6200- use this as the baseline. Commercial insurances average 110% of Medicare, Medicaid averages 65% of Medicare, Liability insurers average 200% of Medicare and the others average 100% of Medicare rates. (What are the individual reimbursement rates for all 5 payers?)

  1. What are the expected rates of reimbursement for this time frame for each payer? What is your expected A/R?
  2. What rate should you charge for these services (assuming one charge rate for all payers)? (This gives you your total A/R.) Calculate the total charges for all cases based on this rate.
  3. What is the difference between the two A/R rates above? Can you collect it from the patient? What happens to the difference?
  4. Which of these costs are fixed? Which are variable? Direct or indirect?
    • materials/supplies (gowns, drapes, bedsheets)
    • Wages (nurses, technicians)
    • Utility, building, usage exp (lights, heat, technology)
    • Medications
    • Licensing of facility
    • Per diem staff
    • Insurances (malpractice, business etc.)
  5. Calculate the contribution margin for one case (in $) with the following costs for this period, per case: a. materials/supplies: $2270 b. Wages: $2000 c. Utility, building, usage exp: $1125 d. Insurances (malpractice, business etc.): $175
  6. Using the above information, determine which is fixed and which cost is variable. Then calculate the break even volume of cases in units for this period.
  7. Suppose you want to make $150,000 profit between this period and next period to fund an expansion to the NICU, how many cases would you have to see? At what payer mix would this be optimal?
