McGee Carpet and Trim installs carpets in commercial offices. Andrea McGee has been very concerned with the amount of time it took to complete several recent jobs. Some of her workers are very unreliable. A list of activities and their optimistic completion time, the most likely completion time, and the pessimistic completion time (all in days) for a new contract are provided in a given table. Following are the activities that are required to install the carpets in the offices:

  • Activity 1: Measure office room dimensions
  • Activity 2: Estimate cost
  • Activity 3: Material requisition
  • Activity 4: Workforce requisition
  • Activity 5: Special tool requisition
  • Activity 6: Installation
  • Activity 7: Inspection and customer acceptance

Activity 2 starts immediately after Activity 1. Activity 3, Activity 4, and Activity 5 start concurrently after Activity 2. Activity 6 does not start until after Activity 3, Activity 4, and Activity 5 are completed. The carpet installation project is complete after Activity 7 is completed. If OT = Optimistic Time, MT = Most Likely Time, and PT = Pessimistic Time, use a Program Evaluation Review Estimate (PERT) to compute the statistical time for each activity, as in the following table:

You must also do the following:

  • Determine the expected completion time and the variance for each activity
  • Determine the total project completion time and the critical path for the project
  • Determine Early Start (ES), Early Finish (EF), Late Start (LS), and slack for each activity
  • What is the probability that McGee Carpet and Trim will finish the project in 40 days or less?
  • Define project management and the necessary requirements.
  • Analyze implications of changes in project scheduling.
  • Evaluate application of project management techniques in terms of the firm’s business operational goals and requirements.

Service Activity Analysis, writing homework help

If you are planning to do a Service Activity Analysis for the final assignment, you will need to complete a 50-100 word outline. Your final Service Activity Analysis (due Module 8) will be assessed for depth, breadth, and judgment, and you will be responsible for answering the questions in the case as they pertain to your service activity. You may proceed with the service activity option only if you have received prior approval by the instructor, who may ask for further clarification.

Must be all ORIGINAL being turned in to Turnitin.

For ideas as to how to present and format a scenario highlighting your service activity experience, please follow the examples provided by the cases in Ruggiero’s Thinking Critically about Ethical Issues. The case you construct based on your service activity should be similar in format to the many examples you can find in that source.

Found Money Assignment 3

See attached file and need help in answering questions.

Find the opinion of the Oregon Court of Appeals in the 2008 case of Helen Sollars (aka Helen Kelly) and Estate of Helene Valoff v. City of Milwaukie, and answer the following questions about the case. Please number your answers and, for the sake of clarity, refer to the parties as “the Seller”, “the Buyer”, and “the City”; avoid using names or “plaintiff” or “defendant” to identify the parties.

  1. The case caption says that Helen Sollars (aka Helen Kelly) and the Estate of Helene Valoff are the plaintiffs in the case and that the City of Milwaukie is the Defendant. Why is the City of Milwaukie a party in the case? Why did the City of Milwaukie fail to appear (file any documents with) the Court of Appeals? This answer should take you only a few sentences.
  2. Compare this case with the “Ohio treasure trove case”. If the link is not working, you will find that article in the Chapter 1 Illustrative Articles. (Note: If you find yourself looking at a tax case, you are not looking in the right place!)
    1. What were the legal issues that were at the core of the treasure trove case?
    2. Are the legal issues that the Sollars case is based upon the same as those presented by the treasure trove case? If not, how are they different?

This answer will take a couple of paragraphs.

3. What were the conflicting arguments of the buyer and the estate in the Sollars case about the language of the contract? (Please use legal terminology.) Again, a couple of well-thought out paragraphs should be sufficient

4. Do you feel that the language of the contract was unambiguous? If so, what do you think the clear meaning of the contract was? In other words, do you think the Court of Appeals or the trial court was right? (Remember that the Supreme Court hasn’t yet ruled on this, so we don’t yet have the Last Word on the matter and you can’t say that “the Oregon Court of Appeals was right because it had the last word.”) If you feel that the language was ambiguous, what are the potential meanings you see, and which one do you feel the court should have applied? Why? A couple of paragraphs should be okay.

5. Rewrite the “personal property” provision of the contract to make it clearer in regard to unknown property on the premises. (Note: Don’t tell me what your provision would be intended to do: write the provision!) Can you see any problems that might arise from including your language in all contracts for the sale and purchase of residential real estate?

    Instructions

Many people get all or most of their news from social media. For this project, we are going to be analyzing the content of several social media sites from major news sources, paying particular attention to social media standards, practices, and regulation.
Where do you get your news? Start by going to one major news site’s FACEBOOK page (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc.) Try another different news site’s TWITTER feed, and third choose another social media site such as Reddit, Pinterest, or another (preferably one you use, if there is one).
Analyze the sites in a 3-5 page total paper. In your analysis, be sure to include the following:

    • General introduction to your thoughts on the social media you studied
    • Several social media practices you observed (e.g., what gets the most interaction?)
    • Examples of regulation of social media and discussion of such regulation (Is it good, bad, or indifferent? How could circumstances change the situation?)
    • Analysis of ethical concerns (e.g., can you see examples of bias?)
    • What is the culture of each site – how do users seem to respond to questionable items? (Is racism or open mocking ignored or pursued?)
    • Conclusion of your findings

Policy Research Paper – Topic Proposal

Choose a policy issue that interests you. It can be a US domestic policy issue, such as immigration or health care, an international policy issue such as terrorism or nuclear security, or a California state policy issue such as education funding or carbon emissions regulation (just to name a few).

  1. First, research the issue using newspaper or magazine articles, and reputable media websites, to get an overview and background information on the issue.
  2. Next, research different proposals for policy change, or support or criticism of current U.S. or state government policy on this issue using media and scholarly sources.

For the topic proposal, submit a one paragraph description of the issue you have chosen, and what is currently happening with a specific policy related to this issue. Also submit a list of at least 8 sources you will use, including both media and website sources (minimum of 5), and scholarly sources (minimum of 3), using either APA Style or Chicago Author/Date Style.

There are several online resources through the SJSU Library that you may find helpful for this assignment.

Learning-Solution-Evaluations

PART 1 – 250 words 2 references in APA

Identify a set of 3-4 criteria on learning and communications solutions that you would use to evaluate solutions. Considering one of these criteria, how might you modify a solution design or approach for the solution?

PART 2 – 250 words 2 references in APA

Propose a set of arguments for one side of the debate:

Side 1: Psychological theories can best be used as a basis for designing a learning or communication solution.

Side 2: Psychological theories can best be used as a criterion for evaluating the effectiveness of a learning or communication solution.

Note: try to balance the sides out. If you see more on one side, please take the other side so that we can have a good debate occurring.

Decision Making

Introduction

Disaster responses will differ from one agency to the next. While planning and response follow a similar framework, the contributions by your team will likely result in different ways to solve the problem. Your Unit 7 assignment focused on the EOC operations and use of the EOP to address one of two scenarios. For this discussion, we will share the varied approaches taken to complete the last assignment and discuss the different approaches to decision-making.

Instructions

  1. Complete the following, then post your paper as an attachment:
    • Identify the EOC staff position and scenario you selected in Unit 7.
    • Explain the role of your selected position as it related to your chosen incident.
    • Describe any challenges your team had within the scenario and which strategies would be effective to build the incident objectives in the midst of conflict by team members.
    • List at least one question related to your approach to the scenario or EOC operations that you would like to discuss.

Response Guidelines

Respond to the posts of at least two of your fellow learners and provide substantive feedback to compare the relationship between general staff roles or approaches to decision-making. How might you approach the identified conflicts differently? Offer productive insight to address questions posed about the response to the scenarios or EOC operations.

conflicting-viewpoints

Assignment 1.1: Conflicting Viewpoints Essay – Part I

Prewriting
Due Week 2 and worth 30 points

When looking for information about a particular issue, how often do you try to resist biases toward your own point of view? This assignment asks you to engage in this aspect of critical thinking by playing the “Believing Game.” The Believing Game is about making the effort to “believe” – or at least consider – the reasons for an opposing view on an issue.

The assignment is divided into two (2) parts.
In Part I of the assignment (due Week 2), you will first read a book excerpt about critical thinking processes: “The Believing Game and How to Make Conflicting Opinions More Fruitful” at http://www.procon.org/sourcefiles/believinggame.pdf. Next, you will review the Procon.org Website in order to gather information. Then, you will engage in prewriting to examine your thoughts.
Note: In Part II of the assignment (due Week 4), you will write an essay geared towards synthesizing your ideas.

Part I -Â Prewriting: Follow the instructions below for this prewriting activity. Use complete sentences and adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.
1. Select one (1) of the approved topics from the www.procon.org Website and state your position on the issue.
2. From the Procon.org Website, identify three (3) premises (reasons) listed under either the Pro or Con section – whichever section opposes your position.
3.For each of the three (3) premises (reasons) that oppose your position on the issue, answer these “believing” questions suggested by Elbow:

  1. What’s interesting or helpful about this view?
  2. What would I notice if I believed this view?
  3. In what sense or under what conditions might this idea be true?”

The paper should follow guidelines for clear and organized writing:

  • Include an introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph.
  • Address main ideas in body paragraphs with a topic sentence and supporting sentences.
  • Adhere to standard rules of English grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA Style format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Identify the informal fallacies, assumptions, and biases involved in manipulative appeals and abuses of language.
  • Create written work utilizing the concepts of critical thinking.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues in critical thinking skills and informal logic.
