business ethics

I would like to use WorldCom as the example. Thank you!

Using the internet, research and analyze a case involving ethical issues surrounding corporate governance from a global position. A common example may be where a corporate board of directors breached one or more duties, such as the duty of loyalty to its shareholders, although there are many other areas where business ethics are at the center of a case that originated at the governance level of an organization.

Briefly describe the facts of the case briefly and the legal issue. Also, discuss the effect of the case from a global business perspective and on society in general.

Incorporate the legal terminology from your textbook where appropriate in both your original post and in your responses to your classmates. Use academic or legitimate news sources, such as The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, etc. Include the link or links used for your research in your post for your fellow classmates to review and to comment on.

Marrgrett, a public limited company, accounting homework help

Marrgrett, a public limited company, is currently planning to acquire and sell interests in other entities and has asked for advice on the impact of IFRS3 (Revised) ‘Business Combinations’ and IAS27 (Revised) ‘Consolidated and Separate Financial Statements’. The company is particularly concerned about the impact on earnings, net assets and goodwill at the acquisition date and any ongoing earnings impact that the new standards may have.

The company is considering purchasing additional shares in an associate, Josey, a public limited company. The holding will increase from 30% stake to 70% stake by offering the shareholders of Josey, cash and shares in Marrgrett. Marrgrett anticipates that it will pay $5 million in transaction costs to lawyers and bankers. Josey had previously been the subject of a management buyout. In order that the current management shareholders may remain in the business, Marrgrett is going to offer them share options in Josey subject to them remaining in employment for two years after the acquisition.

Additionally, Marrgrett will offer the same shareholders, shares in the holding company which are contingent upon a certain level of profitability being achieved by Josey. Each shareholder will receive shares of the holding company up to a value of $50,000, if Josey achieves a pre-determined rate of return on capital employed for the next two years.

Josey has several marketing-related intangible assets that are used primarily in marketing or promotion of its products. These include trade names, internet domain names and non-competition agreements. These are not currently recognised in Josey’s financial statements.

Marrgrett does not wish to measure the non-controlling interest in subsidiaries on the basis of the proportionate interest in the identifiable net assets, but wishes to use the ‘full goodwill’ method on the transaction. Marrgrett is unsure as to whether this method is mandatory, or what the effects are of recognising ‘full goodwill’. Additionally the company is unsure as to whether the nature of the consideration would affect the calculation of goodwill.

To finance the acquisition of Josey, Marrgrett intends to dispose of a partial interest in two subsidiaries. Marrgrett will retain control of the first subsidiary but will sell the controlling interest in the second subsidiary which will become an associate. Because of its plans to change the overall structure of the business, Marrgrett wishes to recognise a re-organisation provision at the date of the business combination.

Required:

Discuss the principles and the nature of the accounting treatment of the above plans under:

1- International Financial Reporting Standards setting out any impact that IFRS3 (Revised) ‘Business Combinations’ ( 400 words)

2- IAS27 (Revised) ‘Consolidated and Separate Financial Statements’ might have on the earnings and net assets of the group.( 400 words)

For this assignment, you will be selecting and discussing a contemporary criminal justice issue to pursue as part of your criminal justice research paper for this capstone course. The topic that you select will be the focus throughout this course, so please select your topic wisely. When considering topics, think about the courses you have taken in the criminal justice program, issues that you have studied, and topics for which you developed an interest. You will not want to select a topic that is too broad, such as crime statistics; rather, consider a specific topic, such as how the collection and reporting of crime statistics could be modified to better account for the dark figure of crime.

Prepare 3–4 paragraphs that present your topic to your peers and instructor. You should include the following based on your selected issue:

  • Draft a thesis statement on your issue.

Social Studies Essay, history homework help

This assignment deals with a significant moment in the road to Confederation. The Rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada initiated the shift toward ‘responsible government’ in the British Colonies. This form of government evolved into representative government and a unique relatively non-violent form of nation building took hold leading ultimately to Confederation.

Use this link to write a 5 paragraph essay with an intro and conclusion that compares the two rebellions. Around 500 words. Needs to spell checked and in detail. Here is some previous feedback from my teacher.

I definitely recommend that you edit this essay so that you will have a better understanding of how to produce proper essays going forward. Also, I highly recommend that you use a proper word processing program in the future to help you catch spelling mistakes and grammar errors, as there were quite a few of them in this essay. I recommend that you download a free program called Open Office, as it will allow you to catch grammar and spelling errors before you even make them! Here is the link to download it: https://www.openoffice.org/download/

“In the future, you always need to include a Works Cited list at the bottom of your essay. This Works Cited list presents all of your sources in MLA format. You also need to include in-text citations whenever you use information from any of your sources. Please read the guide that I have included below on how to use in-text citations and write a Works Cited list.

You also need to work on your essay paragraph structure. In the future, your essay needs to be designed to include the following:

1) The essay starts with an introductory paragraph that introduces the topic and contains a clear thesis statement that explains the main idea of your essay. This thesis statement is proved by the content of the paragraphs that follow it.

2) Three body paragraphs which live between your introduction and conclusion. These body paragraphs prove your thesis statement, so they need to contain lots of in-text citations to back up your information. Also, each of these body paragraphs needs to begin with a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph, and then each body paragraph needs to end with a concluding sentence that summarizes the content of each paragraph.

3) Finally, your essay needs to end with a concluding paragraph that summarizes your thesis statement and the points that you have made in your body paragraphs.

4) You follow the concluding paragraph with a list of works cited. “

Below are files that will help you refer.

Philosophy Discussion Forum

We shall be seeing Kant, Aristotle/Plato, the Utilitarians, (Mill, Bentham, Taylor, and Hume (by inference)), and Feminists, such as Nel Noddings, Carol Gilligan, among others.

Aristotle and Plato: they believed in Virtues:

Wisdom/Knowledge, Courage, Temperance, Justice, and Compassion. Plato laid out his views in THE REPUBLIC.

Aristotle laid it out in The Nicomachean Ethics.

KANT: Here is Mr. Deontology, with his Categorical Imperative and Duty-based theory in which results/Consequences (alone) do not make an action ethical/moral.

We call him the FIRST Non-Consequentialist.

UTILITARIANS: These are the original “BOTTOM-LINE” Folks. Today we call them Consequentialists. To determine if an action is ethical/Moral, one looks at the Results.  . .

FEMINISTS: There is, as you saw in Feminist Epistemology and Metaphysics, a variety of views. Start with Carol Gilligan’s work. Then, go to the Ethics of Care, and then to Martha Nussbaum’s “Capabilties” Approach. . .

As you can see, there is a variety of views in THE FIELD, in general.

Other key distinctions: Cultural Relativism, Subjectivism, and Universalism. . .:-)

Now, take a bit of time to research (since you will need these for NEXT WEEK, as well), and identify the TWO, primary and generic schools of Moral/Ethical Philosophy, the views of some of the folks I mentioned, in MORE detail, and to which school the afore-mentioned Moral Philosophers belong. . . You have Stanford materials as a research starting point. . .:-)

Applied Social Psychology

Applied social psychology is a field unto itself and provides researchers with a direct connection between academic social psychology and their desire to have an impact on social change. Social psychology is a highly applicable field, and social psychological research influences such areas as: consumer behavior, immigration, cultural diversity, education, the environment, organizational functioning, health/mental health, and politics, to name a few (Steg, Buunk, & Rothengatter, 2008).

For this Discussion, Think about how you might use applied social psychology in your field of interest and ways in which to have an impact on social change.

With these thoughts in mind and using these headings:

Provide a brief definition of applied social psychology.

Explain how you might apply one element of applied social psychology in your field of interest.

Explain one way using applied social psychology in your field of interest may affect social change.
