Logic and Life

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 9 in your textbook and complete the interactive module The Graduate (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. In addition, watch the video The Value of Critical Thinking in Daily Life (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (displayed below).

One of the advantages of learning logic and critical thinking is that it can benefit all areas of one’s life. The ability to research all sides before arriving at a position on an issue, the humility to consider opposing points of view in a fair-minded way, the wisdom to evaluate the quality of reasoning for and against positions, the capacity to recognize and avoid logical fallacies, and the skill to be able to construct effective reasoning all can benefit us by helping us to arrive at positions that are most justified by the evidence (and therefore most likely to be true). These habits, when applied, can also help us to make decisions based on a more comprehensive understanding of different points of view, to better appreciate other people’s perspectives, to be more clear and persuasive in our reasoning, and to avoid making decisions that are not rationally justified. The discussion this week is designed to assist us in this process of applying critical thinking to our daily lives.

Your instructor will choose the discussion question and post it as the first post in the discussion forum. Answer all the questions in the prompt, and read any resources that are required to complete the discussion properly.

Guided Response: In addition to your original post, post a minimum of three responses for a total of at least four posts. At least two responses must be to your classmates; the third response could be to a classmate or your instructor. Be sure to post on three separate days throughout the week to promote further engagement and discussion. Each response should be a minimum of 75 words.

The Value of Logic in Life

One of the advantages of learning logic and critical thinking is that it can benefit all areas of one’s life. The ability to research all sides before arriving at a position on an issue, the humility to consider opposing points of view in a fair minded way, the wisdom to evaluate the quality of reasoning for and against decisions, the capacity to recognize and avoid logical fallacies, and the skill to be able to construct effective reasoning all can benefit one’s life by helping one to: arrive at positions that are most justified by the evidence (and therefore more likely to be true), make decisions with a more comprehensive perspective of the different points of view, better understand other people’s perspectives, be more clear and persuasive in one’s reasoning, and to avoid making decisions that are not carefully thought through and to make decisions that are rationally justified.

Reflect: This discussion will discuss specific ways in which the study of logic and critical thinking can benefit you in your personal life. Some general categories you might consider are:

  • Performing at the highest level in your education
  • Achieving your potential in your career
  • Effectively using your time and skills
  • Intelligently managing your finances
  • Making responsible investments/purchases
  • Not falling for scams of any kind
  • Improving personal relationships
  • Correcting bad habits and developing good ones
  • Choosing a path in life that one finds most personally fulfillment
  • Or another relevant possibility

Write:

  • Present and explain at least two areas of your life that can be benefitted by using logic and critical thought (you may choose from the list above or use another area of life).
  • Provide at least one specific example for each of how logic and critical thought can be applied to those areas of life (one example was given in the interactive exercise from week one, of how you could use logic to demonstrate to your boss that you deserve a raise).
  • Discuss in general terms how application of these skills can contribute to the success and fulfillment in that area of life.

Mission Statement

The next phase of your strategic management plan will require you to
research your company’s history and existing strategic goals. Before we
can make major improvements to the business, we first have to understand
where they came from and what they’re currently trying to accomplish.
Use reliable business sources, the company website, and any traditional
appropriate sources to gather as much background information that you
can.
For the assignment this week, write a paper that’s at least two pages in length and addresses the following:

  • Detail the history of the business. Explain how they got their
start but focus mostly on how their business has changed over the last
15 years. Provide a picture of how they adapt to change and any major
obstacles that they’ve had to overcome.
  • Include some information on the top executives at the company and the role that they’ve played in those last 15 years.
  • Provide the company’s existing mission statement and code of
ethics. In what way do they articulate their ethical practices through
policies and public outreach and why is this important?
  • Identify two areas of concern ethically and explain those choices.
Make sure to discuss why you feel that are areas of ethical concern.
Think critically about where your chosen company has the potential for
ethical dilemmas. For example, an accounting firm would be concerned
    with fraud.
  • Rewrite your company’s mission statement. The idea is to provide
clarity and set the new strategic direction that you think the company
should be moving towards. Include a paragraph explaining the changes
    that you’ve made and why.

responses for discussion

I need you to reply to these texts please. What do you like, why and

what do you agree with. Please label each one so that i know which one

is which. I need these on Saturday Can you do them?

1- Globalization, the
process by which businesses or other organizations develop
international influence or start operating on an international scale.
For my career in the in the business world globalization is on the up
which in effect opens up many opportunities in the work force. In the
world now a day everything is changing and becoming more technology
savvy. With this it has the threat of changing the jobs and
management techniques. With the new trend of bringing manufacturing,
money, and jobs back to the USA it opens up the job opportunities and
allowing managers the ability explore what they think may help sales and
production.

2-After
reading chapter 5, I have realized that my ethical grounding revolves
around assuring my conscious is clear. I could not handle the guilt on
myself if I did something that is not right. I am someone who cares
deeply about people, animals, and the environment, so I could never work
for or encourage a company or a company’s employees to take advantage
of any of them. Because I genuinely care about people, I find respect
to be extremely important. I, as a manager, would want all employees to
feel that I respect them and that I listen to what they are saying. I
also think it is essential that the customer feels very respected and
heard by the company, which is what I would practice in a management
position, and I would hope that employees would follow my lead.

3-
What I would do, I would rather buy an existing business. I feel that
this would be the best for me because of two reasons. First I would do
my research to make sure it has a successful past and if it would have a
successful future at the same time. Second, I would look at the future
plans to see if we could expand. Last, I would leave the same crew
members because I wouldn’t like to change anything so the old customers
would keep coming back. I would also love to expand the business by
involving new promotion in order for new customers to come in.

4-
In a borderless world framed by globalization, some opportunities that
may present themselves would be the ability to work for a global firm or
business. Since most large businesses operate on a world scale,
management is needed everywhere that the business operates.

As
a potential manager some environmental threats would be the laws that
prohibit certain business practices. For example, in the auto industry,
The U.S. wants to keep jobs in the U.S.A but this is not always done
because manufacturing in other countries is cheaper and often contains
less regulations.

COLLAPSE

5-The
ethical grounding which is going to guide me as a manager would be
respect and honesty. The basic phrase is in the ethics states: “Treat
others as you would like to be treated yourself.”. Respect and honesty
are important feelings which are appreciated not only in management but
also in personal life. If you show respect to everyone then you will see
what attitude people will have about you, it includes everyone:
teammates, consumers, and others. Honesty helps to deserve a good
reputation because if the whole team knows that they can rely on you,
then you can be sure that you may have a huge potential in your career
ladder.

6- I
would much rather start my own business, the reason being that both
sound like major financial investments. However, I’m confident that I
have several ideas that I could make profitable in the market and
through the process of starting my own business I would be more
dedicated and invested. When the business is your own, from nothing, it
is far more personal and therefore has much more value to you. I’ve
always been the type of guy to want to help build something, like a
legacy, rather than just join a preexisting one. I think it’s comes with
its own unique set of risks but you are far more connected with your
clients and your employees then you would be stepping into a
built company. I think it’s that process and journey that would ever
make the idea of owning my own business worth it.

poster submission assignment 4

Here is my discussion on barriers.Based on this can u do my poster submission. Also attached the rubric. Thanks

Picot question: Does chewing gum reduces postoperative ileus after abdominal surgery?

Intervention: Postoperative ileus is a delayed recovery from intestinal surgery. The signs and symptoms of postoperative ileus are a severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting, not able to eat or drink. Chewing gum is a kind of sham feeding which stimulates early recovery of gastrointestinal function, through cephalon-vagal stimulation. I would ask all my surgery patients to chew gum for 15-20 mins after every meal starting on postoperative day 1.

Stakeholder’s: The identified stakeholders in this study are surgical patients who had different abdominal surgeries will be asked to chew gum on postoperative day 1. The other stakeholders will be their family members, nurses, pharmacist, physicians, and clinical nurse leaders. Nurses are the one who will be providing patients with chewing gum. Physicians and pharmacist can educate the patients on the need of chewing gum. Clinical nurse leaders can follow up with the patients.

Barriers: The different barriers in conducting this study are 1: patients and their family members and the healthcare workers have less knowledge regarding the need of using chewing gum after surgery. Due to this patient forget to chew gum during their postoperative recovery time. The second barrier was lack of supply. There was not enough chewing gum provided to all the surgical patients in the unit. The third barrier was there was no accurate self-reporting of patients regarding the occurrence of flatus, bowel movements and a return of hunger.

I need help with a discussion regarding the generational mix in the workplace

In preparation for this discussion, review the following resources:

As presented in the readings this week, the generational mix in the workplace can create opportunities for conflict and cohesion. Please respond to the following prompts:

  • Your work manager has asked you to bring together a group of co-workers to form a project team that will look at a new software system to manage customer accounts. Currently, the customer account system is very complex and a manual process, but the system works and has been in place and efficiently managed for over 30 years. You decide to create a project team of multiple generations. Your manager asks you why you made this decision. Explain to her why you have chosen Baby Boomer, Generation X, and Generation Y team members by explaining the unique attributes each could bring to the team.
  • Have you experienced generational conflict at work or in another part of your life? Has your reading this week on generations changed your views regarding this experience or helped you understand what occurred? Share your experience and how your views may have changed.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.

Understand Correlation and Other Basic Research Concepts

Extra Credit 2: Understand Correlation and Other Basic Research Concepts

Activity to do:

  • STEP 1 – THE RESEARCH IDEA: Studies
exploring the relationship between certain personality characteristics
and aggressive driving often focus on the traits of anger, hostility,
and aggression (e.g., Deffenbacher, Huff, Lynch, Oetting, &
    Salvatore, 2000; Lajunen & Parker, 2001; Matthews & Norris,
2002). But what about competitiveness? Could it be that some people who drive aggressively are very competitive, and just want to “to win,” “get ahead,” or “be first?”?

    • Share your experiences with aggressive driving, either as the
target of an aggressive driver or as an aggressive driver, themselves.
Think about the kinds of personality traits that might covary with the
      tendency to drive aggressively.
  • STEP 2 – TURNING THE IDEA INTO AN EMPIRICAL QUESTION: Is there a relationship between competitiveness and aggressive driving?
  • STEP 3 – DOING LIBRARY RESEARCH: I will start you off with some useful descriptors (driving behavior, highway safety, personality) and a full text review article on the topic (Sharkin, B. (2004). Road rage: Risk factors, assessment, and intervention strategies. Journal of Counseling and Development,82Preview the document(2),191-198Preview the document.) You must then find one more primary
research articles from peer-reviewed journals to include in your
report. So here, have the two citations and a 1-2 sentence summary of
    what they did/found
  • STEP 4: Take the “Aggressive Driving Survey,”
and rate on how much you feel it describes you. Do you think there are
other and perhaps more valid ways of measuring it, such as by actually
observing someone driving. What are the trade-offs that we often must
make when we conduct research, where it is sometimes not feasible to
conduct a study in the manner we would like. This raises the issue of
methodological limitations, as well as the advantages and disadvantages
of field and laboratory research. So here, I’d take the AGGRESSIVE DRIVING SURVEY – 1) note your score and rate on how much you feel it describes you. 2) Do you think there are other and perhaps more valid ways of measuring it, such as by actually observing someone driving?3) What are the trade-offs that we often must make when we conduct
research, where it is sometimes not feasible to conduct a study in the
    manner we would like?

Each answer should be about
3-4 sentences. Aim for a paragraph. Feel free to use your textbook and
any other sites you may have access to. Please include a reference page
in APA format at the end.

Please include a reference page in APA format

Plagiarism:

Any direct quotation MUST be placed within quotes and
cited. Citing alone does not make it not plagiarized! As I am not
allowing ANY quotation this should not even be an issue!

Citing merely tells the reader where the information is coming
from – using direct quotations “” tells the reader it is a direct quote
from someone else. Why is this important? Well
chiefly, it’s not your words or work. Secondly, if you have the reader
feels the information is wrong they can seek out the original source to
verify that information a) wasn’t taken out of context or b) is indeed
wrong.

Remember, you are typically better off loosing points for having nothing in your own words that plagiarizing someone else.

Course policy is that any plagiarism results in an automatic 0 on the assignment.

University policy is that this is a violation of the university honor code and as such must be reported!!!

So please do NOT plagiarize!

The term creative destruction, health and medicine homework help

The term “creative destruction,” sometimes called “creative disruption,” was coined by the economist Joseph Schumpeter in 1942, and has been used in analyzing industries going through great change…a perfect example is the domestic automotive industry. Clearly, the thinking that brought us the Ford Pinto of the 70’s had to be “blown up” in order for improvement to occur.

The link below will take you to a VERY brief interview with Eric Topol, MD, associated with his presentation to the 2013 American Hospital Association annual meeting. The interview is only 6 minutes long, but filled with ideas and food for thought. Please find it here:

Here are some questions that I have upon watching this interview….you may have others:

  • What will creative disruption in health care look like over the next decade?
  • Is a model where hospitals are only used for intensive care and surgery realistic in the long term? How about the short term?
  • How might digital innovation speed this process?
  • I love his quote near the end, that health care will have to “innovate out of this mess.” What forces might block or hinder this process of innovation? What can be done about them?

Healthcare Operations Management Discussion – Wk 8

Healthcare Operations Management Discussion – Wk 8

“Managing Prescription Drug Costs” Please respond to the following:

  • The issue of rising prescription drug costs has garnered a significant amount of discourse in recent years. The Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act (Medicare Part D) established a prescription drug program for Medicare and provided drug coverage for Medicare enrollees. The Act expressly prohibited Medicare from negotiating drug prices with pharmaceutical companies. The lack of negotiations between Medicare and the pharmaceutical companies has been cited as a major factor in the increased costs of prescription drugs for Medicare enrollees.
    • Formulate an argument where you either support or challenge the effectiveness of allowing price negotiations between Medicare and drug manufacturers in order to reduce overall costs. Justify your response.
