Paragraph 6- Long paragraph

Please write a long Paragraph answering to this discussion below with your opinion. Please include citations and references in alphabetical order in case of another source.

Geopolitical community refers to regions political views that guide the government, the economy, laws as well as local and foreign policies. This usually refers to an entire nation and the foreign policies. I live in Ketchikan, Alaska, which is the southeastern part of Alaska. Ketchikan in positioned on the island of Ravillagegido with a population in the winter time of about 8900 people and in the summer time of approximately 10900, we also play host to some days in the summer with 12000 cruise ship passengers. We are the bridge to nowhere that was never built. We have the only international airport in the world that cannot be accessed by a road. We are the first city that you get to when coming to Alaska. On this island we have a Gateway Borough Assembly, Saxman Tribal Council, Ketchikan Indian Corporation, and Ketchikan City Council.

Phenomenological community is a group of people who have shred or like-minded relationship, values, beliefs, and goals. They are not bound by geographical boundaries. There are many that I could think of, like the Catholic Church which we are a part of, the Filipino community which I am part of because I have been married to one for almost 30 years, or the fact that I am a nurse.

There are many difficulties dealing with the diverse population in Ketchikan. The Alaskan Native have their own clinics and health care system, they usually get mad at the providers and stop using their system, there is public health, but they have limited the amount of services and the ages in which they can help people, therefore most people are referred to the Emergency Room and start building up a huge bill. I am pretty sure that this is the same for most communities in Alaska and maybe in other places of the United States as well.

One issue that comes to mind is PCP (Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning). This is a product of the red tide that moves through our area and the vast amount of fresh seafood that is everywhere. I now that they have the
same problems in other nations with the clams and oysters and things. We see this with almost every ethnic group that is our area. They have posted signs around most of the beaches and put out public service announcements.

Week 1 discussion: I believe reading is an essential part of life, if you cannot read then you can miss out in life with a lot of things. Although if you had to take some test like at DMV, they have people to read the test to you. Some people can’t read but they comprehend what you talking about. Reading is a vital part of life in order to be able to write and people understand what you are saying or trying to say without a second thought.

I choose a bible passage, 1 Thessalonian 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. This passage wasn’t too hard to read but could be interpit differently, it depends on the situation of the reader. I do not think the writer can change anything but I would just get a bible with plain English to help me understand.

Week 5 discussion: When I start this class I was afraid that I would not do well because of the title alone. I was never good with putting words on paper, I’m a better communicator in person. But now since this class the topics are interesting and easier for me to put my thoughts on paper. I hope to be able to write a good paper and keep the interest of my audience. If I could find different ways and words to explain things better that would help me a lot. I hope to get out of this class everything it has to offer and make me more aware of my writing skills. It easier when you can pick your own topics to write about, you can elaborate more and enjoy writing.

Working through the planning process

Read the case below of Renda, a welfare mother. Then, develop a set of notes you would use to present Renda’s case to a team of fellow case management colleagues. Your notes may follow the format of a structured paper, or they may be a list of bullet points with a short paragraph to address each key question. Your total assignment should be two-three pages long. Ensure that your case notes address the following six key questions:

  1. How did Renda’s problems change?
  2. What do you know about the sources of the problems?
  3. What motivations prompt Renda to solve the problems?
  4. What are Renda’s interests and strengths that support the helping process?
  5. What cultural considerations should be addressed when working with Renda?
  6. What barriers may affect Renda’s attempts to resolve the problems?

In your responses, cite two to three scholarly resources. Format your paper per the guidelines of APA. The title and reference pages are not part of the total page count.

Case of Renda:

I was a client in the human service system for a long time. The beginning of my life as a client actually happened when I was still with my husband. He was not supplying any money to our family. We could not afford diapers, food, or anything for our home. We lived out in the middle of nowhere in a broken down trailer with no electricity, hot water, things like that. I had to go to Social Services to try to get some food for my child because we literally had no food or diapers. I found out that my husband, now my ex-husband, was using the welfare money to gamble. I finally left my husband due to abuse. I was tired of being beaten up and tired of being emotionally abused by him.

At that point, I was totally dependent on the welfare system. I received state funds for taking care of my daughter, medical insurance, and other things. I didn’t know where else I could go. I had very few options. I could either go to work at minimum wage or apply for welfare. Applying for welfare would allow me to go back to school, at least for a little while. The social service agencies helped me apply for grants and loans so I could go back to school.

The very first time I went to a meeting at social services was to gain help not only for my daughter and me, but also for my husband. When I went back the second time to apply for assistance just for my daughter and me, I ended up getting a really wonderful worker, Cindy. When I went in to see her, she could . . . I don’t know, we just clicked and it was almost like she said, “You need to cry.” And I said, “Yeah.” At that point I was living in a women’s abuse center. I had no self-esteem, no self-respect. I was in the gutter, literally. I did not know where to go. After my talk with Cindy, she summarized my needs: money, school, insurance, and child care. Of course, she said, that was only her first shot at identifying my problems.
