Erroneous Information in Criminal Investigation

Assignment 1: Erroneous Information in Criminal Investigation

Many investigators and psychologists focus on the minutiae of the case and easily lose track of the larger picture. On the other hand, it is also very important to weigh the evidence and decide what data is more important and should be examined further and what data may be placed aside.

Using the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, respond to the following questions:

  • What are the possible sources of error in the information collected during a police investigation?
  • What are some of the factors that may lead to false confessions?

Write your initial response in approximately 300 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Submission Details:

  • By the due date assigned, post your responses to this Discussion Area.
  • Through the end of the module, respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. While responding, compare the similarities and differences between what you have constructed and what your classmates have.

EN 300 L: Essay #3 (75 points): Narrative Essay

EN 300 L: Essay #3 (75 points): Narrative Essay

Due Date

Assignment

:

In 750+ words, write a narrative argument. Using either an example from your

personal experience or from another source, describe in detail a sequence of events and use these

events to make an argument on a topic related to them. Your purpose is to connect with your

readers to convince them to change their opinion on an important subject. Make sure to organize

your writing around a strong thesis.

Use descriptive detail and cite sources as appropriate, and include an additional works cited page

as needed.

Audience

: Your audience for this essay is a group of college students interested in social and

political issues, and who hold a wide range of views on those issues.

Additional Notes

: Two key things to remember: first, this essay needs to tell a story, and second,

that story should be used to convince your audience of your argument, NOT just to state your

own opinion.

Your essay does not have to be from your own personal experience, but all outside sources need

to be cited in MLA format. I would strongly recommend using other evidence beside your

narrative, because that will help with both logos and ethos, and will help make sure your

audience finds your narrative credible and generalizable.

As always, your goal should be to use the best means of persuasion you can find in the essay. In

narrative essays, it is particularly important to use vivid, specific details in your essay. The more

your readers see events through your eyes, the more likely they are to listen carefully to your

argument and to be persuaded. You do not need to include an explicit thesis, but you should

make sure it is clear to your audience what you are arguing for.

Grading scheme:

Thesis (explicit or implicit, but a clear and specific persuasive thesis): 10 points

Narrative, evidence and detail (be specific, clear, and persuasive): 30 points

Clarity and organization: 5 points

Grammar and mechanics: 5 points

Advisory memo Employment issues Human Resource Management

RedKing22

As a first-year Human Resource Specialist at “State of Estates” estate planning firm, your boss (Will N. Trusts) presents you with the following two scenarios:

Scenario 1

Gary, an estate planner, works on a contract basis for our clients at “State of Estates”. On occasion, we contract Gary to handle a specific client for a specific estate planning job. Per our contract with Gary for these specific clients, he is paid commission on a weekly basis based on the overall fee received by the firm. When working for these specific clients, Gary is able to use our office space, equipment, and any supplies necessary to complete the job. To ensure consistent work product and regulatory compliance, Gary submits his work to a supervisor, who approves it and send it to the client on behalf of our firm. Recently, we had to lay Gary off in the middle of a job and he filed for unemployment compensation.

  • What legal tests could be employed to determine whether Gary is an independent contractor or employee?
  • Based on these tests, what is your conclusion as to Gary’s status: independent contractor or employee?

Scenario 2

Susan, a financial products representative in our Nebraska office, landed a major Mutual Fund client just six weeks before planning to retire. In the interim, and before her commission was paid, she was let go by our firm. We did not have a contract for employment with Susan. She is now suing us for wrongful termination.

  • Would any exceptions to Susan’s at-will employment apply under these circumstances?
  • Does it make a difference if Susan was employed in our Florida office?

Apply the concept of employment at-will and its various exceptions, including differences in approach to at-will among the states.

Write two 175-word memorandums based on the scenarios in one document. The memos should be written in third-person voice, and include citation of references (both in-text and at the end of the memo) in APA format.

A4- Human Memory Explain how the sources relate to what you learned about how memory functions

Write a 5–6-page summary of what you learned from three chosen scholarly sources that relate to the memory issue presented in a movie. Explain how the sources relate to what you learned about how memory functions.

Preparation

To prepare for this assessment, complete the following:

  • Memory issues are common themes for movies, theater productions, and television shows. Select and view one movie that illustrates an important effect of memory. Some possible choices are Memento (2000), 50 First Dates (2004), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), The Notebook (2004), and Total Recall (1990).
  • Find at least three scholarly or peer-reviewed sources that address the problem in memory and help you better understand the causes and consequences of the memory issue portrayed in the movie. Think about the accuracy with which a character with a memory condition is portrayed.
  • Research the difference between semantic, episodic, and procedural memory.

Directions

For this assessment, complete the following:

  1. Briefly describe the plot of the movie you selected and the main character(s) involved. Explain why you chose the movie in relation to the memory issue of interest, and how the movie illustrates the memory effect of interest (about one paragraph).
  2. Choose three scholarly sources that relate to the memory issue presented in the movie and summarize what you learned. Explain how the sources relate to what you learned about how memory functions.
  3. Describe, based on what you have learned about memory, what was realistic and inaccurate about the movie’s presentation. What would you change in the movie to make it more accurate? What type of memory system was dealt with in the movie (semantic, episodic, or procedural)?
  4. Describe and incorporate the relevant scholarship and theories—what is known about the condition and what the problems or unresolved issues are that have yet to be researched—as it relates to the memory condition presented in the movie.

Strive to be as concise as possible. Limit the length of your completed assessment to 4–5 pages, in addition to the title page and references page. Support your statements and analyses with references and citations from at least three resources.

Additional Requirements

  • Include a title page and a reference page.
  • Use at least three resources.
  • Follow APA format. Note: You may use the APA Paper Template linked in the Resources. This resource is not required.
  • Use 12-point, Times New Roman font.
  • Double-space your paper.

Paraphrase Journal Article

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review the three main ideas you selected from the Week 2 Assignment.
  • Review the Learning Resources related to paraphrase and academic integrity.
  • Review the content of your selected journal article.

The Assignment:

Paraphrase the three directly-quoted main points of the journal article you selected. Your paraphrases should combine to form 1 paragraph.

Remember that you are writing a first draft, and the important thing is to better understand the focus of each main idea to rewrite in your own words. While you should always strive for the best writing possible, at this stage, do not dwell too much on each word or overly edit your work. We will spend the next few weeks revising.

Mandating Public Health Policy

In the United States, constitutional law not only protects the rights of the public; it also establishes both the rights and limits of the federal government. Recently, however, the power and involvement of the government in public health has come under heated debate. Much of this has to do with the passing of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), a mandate that requires all individuals to obtain health insurance by the end of 2014. The intent of this measure was to reduce health care costs by making health care more accessible for all, but did the government overstep its limits? Why or why not? How might this and other public health policies impact both the communal health and individual rights of the public?

As you are now most likely aware, public health and governmental law are inextricably woven together. However, at what point (if any) does governmental involvement in public health policy become invasive or wrong?

In this Discussion, you further consider the role of government in public health and justify whether or not the government has the right to mandate public health policies.

To prepare for this Discussion, review Chapter 1 of your course text and explore the congress.gov website (located in this week’s Learning Resources), which provides an overview of the legislative process. Then, review the Learning Resources and consider the role government should have in policy creation.

By Day 4, post your stance on governmental involvement in public health policy. Explain whether the government should mandate public health policies and why. Justify your post with at least one past or current public health issue.
