Week 4 Forum: Structuring Essay #2
Forum Goal: Create an outline to help you structure the second essay, including one reference from the APUS library.
In Week 3, you chose a topic for your next essay. You wrote about your topic, and many of you received feedback from your classmates regarding directions you might be able to take your paper.
Let’s review the instructions from the first essay. You took your word to define and began to plan how you would explore this definition; the document “SampleEssay1Sakai” offered you an outline to follow as you wrote.
For instance, our example was “liberty.” To explain liberty, we used Roman numerals for each major point, and then a, b, and c for how you would explain this item.
For the Week 4 Forum, you will now structure your next essay. Here’s where the “meat” of your argument goes: what will the body paragraphs look like, and why? What material will strengthen the points you want to make? Use this opportunity to explore the library to see what information you plan to use and cite what you find.
Include one reference in proper MLA format that you have found from the APUS Library to support your topic.

Compare and Contrast the Resurrection by Dieric Bouts with the Baptism of Christ by Giovanni di Paolo

Compare and Contrast the Resurrection,1455 by Dieric Bouts with the Baptism of Christ, early 1450s by Giovanni di Paolo

Write an essay comparing the two paintings. Paper must be a minimum of 500 words.

Here are some of the things you should cover in your essay:

    1. Start by briefly discussing the subject of each painting: Are there people in the painting? Is it a portrait of an actual human being? A divine figure? Is it a scene of people—or divine beings—interacting? What are they doing?

Does it include landscape elements? Still life elements?

    Is the subject religious? Historic?

    2. Now look at the style.

How is the paint applied? Is it smooth? Thick? Can you see brushstrokes?

What kinds of colors are used? What kinds of lines and shapes?

How does the artist use space?

Is the image realistic? Abstract? Idealistic? Or a combination?

    3. Discuss the possible function of the artwork. What purpose did the artwork serve? Answering this question may require research.

What do you think the artist was trying to communicate? You certainly can talk about your own ideas about the art, but be careful NOT to project your ideas onto the artist.

    4. Finally, compare the two artworks in terms of form, style, function, and cultural context. How are they similar? How do they differ?

    5. Conclude with a paragraph that sums up your ideas.

    6. Cite your sources in footnotes or in text-notes, as well as a citation page.

    A Genetic or Biological Link?

Considering that factors such as eye color, hair color, facial features, body figures, and personality characteristics are passed down from generation to generation, could criminal behavior or criminal tendencies also be passed down? Thus, is there a genetic or biological link to understanding criminal behavior? Explain how temperament (which is determined largely by genetic or biological influences) and environmental experiences can influence the development of problematic and aggressive behavior. Watch Jon Ronson: Strange Answers to the Psychopath Test (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and consider your own temperament as a child and explain how it fits with your personality today.

Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references

You are the special teams commander in a major metropolitan police agency. You have a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, a narcotics unit, a vice unit, and a street crimes squad. He also related that after a month on the team, he received an envelope in his locker that contained $3,000. He does not know who slipped it through the vent slots in the door, but on that day, he saw two other members of the team with similar envelopes.

    Week 3 – Assignment

Outline Worksheet and Final Paper Pre-Planning

Building on your assignment from Week 2, this week you will expand on your topic and develop a thesis statement and an outline for your Final Paper.

Prepare: This is the second step in writing your Final Paper, so please be sure to re-review the POL201 Assignment Guide and the POL201 Final Paper template within the online classroom. Reflect on the policy topic that you determined last week and review your instructor’s comments and feedback regarding the policy and preliminary research. Review the research articles you found last week and determine what other aspects of the policy still need to be discussed and supported.

Reflect: Reflecting on your policy and your previous research, think about how to best structure your thesis (the argument) that you are supporting within this assignment. For this assignment, you will establish your thesis and then outline your paper with your supporting resources. You will utilize your four references from last week and add at least two additional references this week, for a total of six sources for this week’s assignment. At least four of these resources should be from the Ashford University Library. The following resources will help you to use the library effectively to find resources for your assignment:

For guidance on using library databases to locate scholarly, peer-reviewed articles click on Help! Need Article (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and then click the “How Do I Search for Articles” button from the menu.

For guidance on identifying the types of sources you can use for academic research, watch this interactive tutorial on Evaluating Sources (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Continue the research process and find sources that support your ideas and that can be integrated into your paper effectively. The POL201 Research Guide (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.is designed to help you find sources for your paper. Be sure you make use of this librarian-created resource for your assignment.

The Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Be sure that the sources you are utilizing to support your ideas are valid, reliable, and not overly bias. For more information on identifying information bias, watch this interactive tutorial on Subjective and Objective Statements (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Write: You will establish and develop a strong thesis for your Final Paper. The thesis (see Writing a Thesis Statement (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) will serve as the backbone of your Final Paper and should showcase in one complete statement what your policy is, why it is important, and how it relates to policymaking and government program administration within the American national government.

Once you have established your thesis, you will then outline (see Outlining (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) your Final Paper utilizing outline format. When utilizing an outline, be sure to include the elements from the Week 2 assignment and remember to use headings and subheadings. All sentences within your outline should be complete and should help to support your ideas.

To complete the assignment, save the Week 3 Outline Worksheet to your computer, fill it out, and submit it via Waypoint. Within the worksheet, you will state your thesis statement, provide an outline of your paper, and integrate the four sources from your annotated bibliography, plus two more sources, into your outline to showcase how these resources support your ideas. Provide a full APA references list with a minimum of six sources. Please be sure to utilize outline format and to support all statements with scholarly research. All references should be listed in full APA format and cited appropriately.
